Like many things, the idea sounds great and empowering. You go man, live your best life, be happy with yourself and don't rely on others for your worth. Self-actualize and don't run from your emotions but embrace them. Great advice for anyone, male or female.
But in actuality, it just comes down to misogyny and sexism from sad and pathetic people who think that someone is to blame for their own private failings as a person

Maybe this is why so many people are prepared to believe that FDS is an evil hive of hatred.
For years men have been setting up subs like MGTOW and TRP and claiming they are all about "self improvement" and "going their own way", while they're really just about hating and resenting women.
So when women set up a sub that is about self improvement and not needing men, people assume it must be a bullshit cover the way that male versions of this sub are.

Maybe. We could have definitely picked a better name. If you know nothing at all, then "men going their own way" sounds like it what I suggested above, while "female dating strategy" sounds like some kind of shifty pickup artist thing.
It's not the best PR for sure, but a large part of it absolutely has to do with all those men who think US uppity women just need to shut up and do what they say.

I think the problem with the concept is that it positions friendship as some kind of holding pen area that only “lucky” men escape. Instead of a totally different but equally valuable dynamic. It devalues women’s nonsexual contributions to a relationship.

It’s also yet another way for men to play the victim, which they clearly love to do. Unless it is gay men with 0 sexual desire towards you (thought they can secretly hate you just for being a woman) - straight men more often than not, want more from the relationship. That's why you can never be "just friend" with men - they don't see you as a friend, they see you as a target.

I've had fully platonic friendships with heterosexual men where they didn't try to get with me or any advances. But in most cases we were dating different people and it was in the context of a group of friends and not actually spending nights on end alone with them at home and stuff like that. I really like those men as friends and these friendships have lasted many years. But I know what you mean, in some cases it's a tricky situation.

It's a belief based on facts: it's men themselves who don't want to be friends. When they claim "friendship" for a woman, they're secretly harboring sexual desires for her. They are the ones who manipulate and lie about their true intentions in the relationship/interactions.
The ones who invented the friendzone, "are" in the friendzone, and blame the friendzone, are all the same: it's men.
For women, friendship is friendship.
