A hobby friend of mine, Liz, and I were chatting while we were cleaning our gear. Liz has been with her partner for about 3 years, no ring. I asked her about her recent trip to an area about 1000 miles from where we live.

Liz: I have a job opportunity out there, plus my brother and his wife just had a child so I think its time I moved.

Me: What about your boyfriend?

Liz: I informed him.

Liz shrugs.

..... a few minutes pass....

Liz: He cried a bit.
