Sisters, remember you guys aren't Bob the Builder. It isn't your job to fix a man

Most men leave us whenever life gets hard (or any changes happen when we get old, fat, sick, poor), they never build. So don’t ever build them!

My mom was (is) a fixer. She gives out so much energy to men who don’t even want it (or think they need it) and then she is exhausted and does nothing for herself. I am just thankful that instead of learning and absorbing those patterns, I saw how fruitless it was and went the other direction. Having “fixed” myself (or at least started down the path to trying to heal) I can confidently say, no one can fix another person. You have to want it for yourself and want to do it yourself, and even then it’s hard to undo things that are deeply engrained. If you’re gonna work construction, at least get a paying job in the field lol

It’s actually reverse financed. We spend our own money to build them. Time to walk off the job, ladies.

I remember from the ages 13-19, I used to say I want a bad boy so I can fix him. lol. It was movies/pop culture that done this to me.
Movies, tv shows and music have a HUGE influence on teenage girls. The early 2000's were full of pick me stuff, so many movies where the girl was 'not like the other girls'. As much as I love Taylor Swift and I think she has really grew as a woman and is no longer a pick me, she had a lot of internalised misogyny in her music and life in the past , you belong with me was a HUGE hit when it came out and many teenage girls it was their favourite song at the time but that song is filled with internalised misogyny and the 'im not like the other girls' trope. As well as her song better than revenge. Even rock music, Paramore in the early 2000's were the biggest band going and their biggest hit Misery Business had a very misogynistic line in it. The pussycat dolls were huge in the 2000's and teenager girls were obsessed with them, songs like Don't cha, the purpose of that song is to put down another woman for a man. I could list a million more...
I dont think its as bad today as it was in the early 2000's, im seeing many gen z girls call out pick me behaviour on tiktok and such. I dont think there is as many pick me movies as there was in the early 2000's. Im not saying there are none whatsoever because there are, movies like 365 days, After are not good movies for teen girls. Here is a good article which you should give a read: The bubblegum misogyny of 2000s pop culture

I grew up with Britney Spears and some of her songs are truly pathetic pickme shit, especially the early stuff. "I was born to make you happy" is one of the worst offending songs ever and heavily influenced me. Still love Britney though 😂

What man (let alone several) trips over themselves to "fix" a woman with anything other than his dick

And even then it’s the wrong tool for the job

Most women have issues because of men who dicked them over. Pun intended.

Oof. Fuck, you're right. Jeez, this really hits it home how it's Not Just Me, that his whole life he had others trying to show him a better way, including a father in recovery. It never was, and never will be, because.. if he wanted to, he would. 25 years to figure it out, and he still hasn't caught on? That's a him problem, not a me problem. Thank you for sharing this. 💗

Imagine what would happen if those eight women put their energies, attention and love towards themselves instead.

Why would you even WANT to fix someone. Like, you make it through your own life picking up on context clues, making inferences/deductions, acquiring knowledge, investing in self care, developing self awareness etc. You meet a person who isn't grown enough to do all those things for themselves that you had to learn and you want them in your life?...um, no.

There is a LVM I know who just messaged me to “come over and see his new house.” Pre-FDS, I totally would have fallen for this hook, line, and sinker. Thank you FDS for waking me the F up!!!!
What I found especially useful and empowering is the FDS rule that we don’t explain or respond, we just block and delete. I could have dragged out a long response that maybe he would have debated, ignored, or screengrabbed to show his friends how “crazy” I am. Instead, I just didn’t respond! No need. Bye dude 👋
