Most men are socialized to be massive narcissists and are never told "think about how she feels, it might be different to how you feel".

Any time I asked my ex how he'd like xyz, in a tiresome attempt to teach him empathy, he said he'd love it.

He'd love to be groped out of nowhere, he'd love to be catcalled, he'd love to be sent pics of boobs, he'd love to be woken up for sex.

I tried to explain this to my rapey ex by using this finger up the butt example. He said 'I wouldn't mind it because I care about your sexual needs, whereas you never want to try anything I want to do!' I knew he didn't want a finger up his butt, he was just saying that because he knew I had no interest in putting my fingers anywhere near his butt. I'd like to offer this : how would they feel if a gay man who is a stranger, were to hit on them or ask for their number or cat call them? How would they feel if that gay man stood far too close to them or even put hands on them by feigning politeness and putting their hand on the small of his back to (unnecessarily) 'squeeze' by him? Hmm?

There's a video I saw not long ago of a prank, where gay men would be going the opposite way on an escalator and they'd touch the hand of a man coming to opposite way. It was a discussion about how we feel as women when men pull this weird shit. 10/10 times the hetero man would visibly flip out and one even tried to get violent.

So, we're supposed to smile and bat our eyelashes meanwhile if a gay man was acting inappropriately towards another man, his next trip would be straight to the ER.

Just look at how men have reacted to the very graphic depiction of male rape in the show Outlander, compared to ALLLLLLL the graphic rape of women in movies and tv for "entertainment" and "character development" over the decades. (Spoiler: men were Big Upset and had Many Feels that they saw that happen to another man)

They understand consent and rape perfectly well, but only when it applies to themselves or other men. Don't hold your breath expecting them to feel a fraction of that for anyone else.

I read somewhere that any convo with men about gender issues needs to start with, “okay, imagine that you’re in San Quentin...” for them to empathize with the emotional and social dynamics that are implicit in what you’re about to say.
