YES. I just broke up with my seemingly-HVM over this. I'm thinking about writing a post-mortem that looks at all of the subtle signs that he was toxic under the facade to help other women in this sub.

The gist of what happened is that he had a meltdown (that he called a "trauma response") over me musing that maybe I'd like to try out for community theatre. His ex was an escort and he said he couldn't emotionally handle me having a part with a stage kiss because it reminded him too much of that trauma, and wanted me to promise him I wouldn't do it. I told him I absolutely was not going to agree to that.

It took two months for our relationship to deteriorate after that point, and the story he started spinning was that he was having a trauma response, I didn't give him the emotional support he needed, and therefore he can't trust me to meet his needs anymore. Never mind that he was saying things that were very similar to things an abusive ex had said to me. I wish I had listened to my gut that he was being controlling and manipulative from that moment. But at least I did eventually get out.

His "trauma" doesn't get to override my boundaries.
