I felt like having a small heart attack when I saw guy number 1 and 3's flat. Once I dated a man for 1 month and he seemed very high value without any red flags, always payed, took my out to fun different dates and restaurants.

But then the first time I was to come home to him, he invited me saying he would cook dinner. His place was similar to the the man from Madrid in the article, and he then had the balls to say "Now let's get you to work" about the cooking. I was already half way out the door at that point.

When I was biting back on his sexist joke he called me high maintenance.I said thank you and dumped him.

Crazy that these messy guys actually have girlfriends, that sure doesn't want to spend any time there, but I can grasp how they don't throw the man away and realise there's better out there.

The horrors I have experienced living with two grown men (exhusband, ex husband’s brother) have given me the wisdom to never subject myself to living with a “man” again unless he is a demonstrated clean HVM unicorn. (He can be clean and low value so be careful).

It was the messiest most horrifying home. Nothing I did could make it stay clean. Beer cans everywhere (alcoholics), smelly sticky trash everywhere, frozen food wrappers, candy wrappers, smelly laundry, leaving Laundry in the washer, filthy gunk everywhere, disgusting sweet smell of trash... It gives me PTSD!

Ladies, I moved out into my own clean heaven of an apartment and learned my lesson.

They pretend to be clean for a while. Once they have you.... they shut down that charade quick.

What makes me the most ashamed of my pickme days was that I ALWAYS dated men like this and I took over the cleaning for them. I would literally dedicate every Sunday to cleaning their ENTIRE PLACE (it took between 3-6 hours usually). All the while they sat on the couch watching TV and not once did I think anything of it. Matter of fact I was soooo proud to be playing the 50’s housewife role while they relaxed. Even back then I couldn’t believe the messes that they created in the course of one week. Hair EVERYWHERE, toothpaste splatters across the entire bathroom, garbage that was never taken out so it spill onto the floor (including leaking food), crumbs in the bed and on the couch, the list goes on and on. I even dated several guys THAT DIDN’T OWN HAND SOAP. One of them let his cats walk all over his kitchen counters, kitchen table, and he didn’t own a dishwasher or proper disinfectant to cleanup after preparing raw meat (so naturally I bought him everything he needed to be sanitary). They were so messy and disrespectful in my own home that I had to deep clean my place twice per week after the would visit.

Thankfully those days are long gone, but they are what I regret the most and I cringe just thinking about them!

An apartament says a lot about the person who lives in it. I can be messy sometimes, but never dirty. I can forgive being messy, I can forgive the purgatory chair for clothes not good to put away on the shelf but not ready to be washed yet, I can forgive laid out papers or leaving a coffee mug in a sink. But I will not forgive piling up dishes, mountains of laundry to do and another load of wet and moldy laundry forgotten for two weeks in the washing mashine. Also smoking at home, jesus, the stench!

Yikes this looks exactly like my dad's place. Stained futon on the floor with no sheets, holes in the walls, he literally let's his dog shit wherever she wants IN THE HOUSE and doesn't clean it, then wonders why they have a massive fly problem???

The guy from Amsterdam gave me a heart attack, men. I always speak so highly of Dutch men for at least doing the chores and being fairly 'equal' considering the household. Also, most of the guys I know don't really watch porn. This guy has a mess AND jokes about tissues on the floor.

I think it also has to do with social circle and/or education a bit? Most of the guys I know are consultants, surgeons or doctors, art historians and so on. They have really nice apartments that are decorated even better than mine. Designer stuff everywhere and a housekeeper. The friend group of my ex fiance as well. The guy's who earn a little less still take pride in making it 'homey'.

Oh god. At least the key word is apartment. Unless he relocates/travels often for work, a well established man would have a house. I'm hoping single men's houses would be in better condition.
