This. I'm sorry but he's just using you as a warm body.
I wouldn't even bother talking to him (personally). I feel like his actions have already proven that he doesn't value you enough to have a solid relationship with you.
And even if he did, he'd still probably make you a forever girlfriend since he knows that he's got you.
It may be hard leaving, but you deserve better sis 💕.
Would you want a younger sister or your daughter to be caught up in a situationship like this?

Ask yourself why you think basic affection from this man means ANYTHING at all. You’ve been having sex with him for 2 years- but a forehead kiss somehow indicates real intimacy?
If he hasn’t locked you down by now he doesn’t want to. And he’s not going to. A man that wants you would not even give you the space to potentially be taken off the market by another man.
I would say this is wasted energy. Since you have feelings it is best that you end it and explain why. Maybe that will light up a fire in him to commit, but I wouldn’t count on it. And honestly I wouldn’t want a man that could spend 2 years with me but not progress the relationship.

yup, even if by some miracle you get him to "commit" he'll always have one foot out the door.
[–]_Alexis_xsFDS Newbie6 points7 points8 points 6 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link
Thank you! I was actually also thinking about ending it with him, but should I tell him that the reason is because I caught feelings?
[–]Ms_TillyRuthless Strategist44 points45 points46 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Nah. Don't boost his ego. Tell him you're looking for a relationship now and it was nice while it lasted. Leave emotions out of that conversation. He should understand that fwb relationships have an expiration date.
The guy I was messing around with keeps popping up to tell me he's now ready for a relationship. Sorry dude, that ship has sailed. You had your chance already. Good luck

Good for you. 🏆

You’ve given him two years.
Two years of intimate access to your body. Two years of intermittent girlfriend-type behaviors but no label or acknowledgement. Two years of patience and emotion. Two years of analyzing every move, word, and behavior.
Don’t give him two more seconds. Your reasons are your own and your disappointment is yours to heal from. Cut your losses quickly and with dignity. Stay strong!
[–]scandalousandevilFDS Newbie10 points11 points12 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
I wouldn't. He could try to make you stay saying he also has feelings for you just to keep you there for him, you'd believe him and waste more time with him because he still won't commit. Even if he doesn't push you to stay, it would just feed his ego and he'll just remember you're heartbroken over him.
[–]MaizeMalaiseFDS Newbie5 points6 points7 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Yup, he knows exactly what he's doing. Don't ever give them the benefit that they may be naively/unconsciously leading you on. They know.
[–]SureEmployment4FDS Newbie7 points8 points9 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Yes. You don’t have to make a big deal out of it and you can still walk away with some dignity.
“I came to the realization that this isn’t what I want anymore. I’m at a point in my life where I am interested in a meaningful relationship. I really enjoy our time together so if you’re looking for the same thing, I would be open to discussing that.”
If he makes it clear that he also wants a committed relationship, then it is time to set some boundaries because that is going to look a lot different than what you are doing now. Let him show you that he’s even worth it. Otherwise, move on.

In what way is this man who hasn't committed to you but is happy to get free sex for two years your soulmate? Seems like he knows a good thing when he's got it. Seems like you're setting yourself up for an emotional rollercoaster. YOU CAN'T MAKE SOMEONE LOVE YOU, COMMIT OR DO ANYTHING. They will or they won't. And he isn't.

What makes a man commit?
Fear of losing someone who matters to him.
End of story.
When they value you, they will lock that shit down.

I thought the same way about my FWB for almost 2 years. He even said he loved me. But at the end of the day they value your body first because if they valued you as a person first then you would be in a relationship right now.
[–]_Alexis_xsFDS Newbie4 points5 points6 points 6 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
At that really sucks! Did you get over him?
[–]psychsenseFDS Apprentice5 points6 points7 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
It took me a long time. He got a different girlfriend while we were FWB and it broke my heart. I contemplated suicide after he so casually walked away from what we had.
Then she left him because he had physically hurt her when he was drunk, leaving bruises on her wrists. I was so blind I made excuses for him when he came back to me after their breakup. Unfortunately he ended up doing something similar to me that he did his ex, except by this time his abusive behavior escalated. He begged me not to report what happened and I stupidly “let it go” but we ended things after that because nothing could be the same. It was easy to get over him after that.

What makes you think you are the only one he does this to? Maybe he has multiple FWB. He also doesn’t seem to care if you sleep with other guys. Sounds harsh but he likes you because you are easy.
[–]turquoisebluesFDS Apprentice12 points13 points14 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
You’re giving him the girlfriend experience for free.
[–]mountaindewme22FDS Newbie12 points13 points14 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
If he wanted to commit to you , he would.... It does not take 2 years to decide if you want to be with someone a.k.a he has already decided and that answer is: no.
Now you can continue being his convenient placeholder until he finds a girl he actually wants to date OR you can regain your dignity and move on with someone else who actually wants to be with you.

You’ve been in a two year “Situationship”. DTR or move on ASAP.

This works. I dumped my fwb for not being respectful of my time. He was my first and my last. He keeps reaching out to me via text and has several times told me he's ready for a relationship now. After drilling it into my head that he will never be available for a relationship and is interested in polyamory. Funny because I never asked for commitment from him. I took him at his word the first time he said he didn't want a relationship.
He's been at this trying to get me back for two years now. Telling me he's a one woman type of man now, that his last girlfriend changed him. But I never forgot how he treated me and no longer trust him.
[–]JoanHollowayWannabeFDS Newbie5 points6 points7 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Good for you, honestly kudos. That takes discipline, because they will say anyyything to try get your attention/affection back.
[–]MaizeMalaiseFDS Newbie2 points3 points4 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Even if you get them to change their tune on commitment by cutting them off, he should still be blocked and permanently placed in a no-date bucket.
He showed his true feelings the first time and he fucked up his chance.
Let him go and focus on someone who will get it right the first time.
Noone should be an afterthought.

Just start being busy and filling your life with stuff that fill you up and date around (you take dating at your pace).
[–]ssprinnklessFDS Newbie2 points3 points4 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
If he hasn't committed already, he doesn't want you that way and he won't commit to you, ever. You can't make a man commit to you, and you shouldn't want to.
You say no one else has made you feel this way, why not put that to the test and actually give someone else a chance? Someone who wants a relationship with you, not a fwb.
[–]sugaredberryFDS Newbie3 points4 points5 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Sounds like he’s using you like a mommy. As a person to keep him warm. They bank on keeping you confused. Ive been in this situation. Please. Calmly end it or ghost him. If a man wants you, you’ll know.
[–]streetveepFDS Newbie2 points3 points4 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Why are you on FDS?!!
[–]FitncurlyFDS Newbie0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
If he hasn’t made serious moves to keep you around or had any sort of future-thinking talk about furthering the relationship, then you should next him for someone who takes your heart and time seriously.
[–]Desperate-NectarineFDS Newbie0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
You can’t make him want to commit. You can leave and find someone who does want that though, which is what you should do
