This is an example of major and blatant discrimination against men/boys. It illustrates how society often ignores male issues, and doesn't even recognize when discrimination against men/boys occurs.

This is clearly an example of misogyny, since it implies women aren't as capable as men of being soldiers. How dare you say it's discrimination against men? It's clearly a side effect of the patriarchy. Also, all those wars these men are sent to were caused by other men, therefore it's men harming other men. So basically, it doesn't fucking matter. By the way, women have it worse. /s

Most people just take what they hear at face value and never really stop to think deeper about it, specially the perspectives that are missing. Like, I was just thinking about how blatantly female-centric the term “benevolent sexism” is, as it completely disregards the perspective of a guy who gets the short end of the stick because of this kind of sexism. Why not just call it sexism from the get go?

It’s the same thing with the concept of equality. It’s very clear that it only means equality when it’s beneficial and that the male perspective is missing, but it’s as if there’s a barrier preventing people from realizing such an obvious reality. I look back and it baffles how the hell I didn’t realize this inconsistency sooner. Was I sleepwalking?

I can only think about how frustrating it must be to be a man in countries like Finland, South Korea or Singapore, with high rates of conscription and where most men are pretty much guaranteed to go through military or civil service, and hearing that it is your duty to help in the fight for equality, except that no one lifted a finger to fight for equality for you. Not only that, but they outright deny your issues. That’s why it’s so hard to blame men in places like South Korea for their hostility towards feminism.

Conscription is a form of slavery. As much as other NRA love to bash my country as if America is a bastion of MAAS compared to Canandian feminists, at least Canada has no conscription in my life time nor select service crap.

I'm from Austria, and yes, it sucks/sucked. Should be either abolished or made mandatory for everyone. A few years ago, there was even a poll/referendum where people could vote whether it should be abolished or kept. Guess who could vote? That's right, everyone. Granted, there are a lot of men here as well that are pro conscription, and I haven't researched whether it would have made a difference or not to only let men vote.

This is the cultural outcome of thousands of years of stricter gender roles being utilized throughout human history. Even if - in modern warfare - women are equally as capable as men in military service (even if that means you need to just place them mostly in support roles, rather than direct combat roles), good luck convincing people who have been conditioned over thousands of years and through our evolution itself to prioritize women over men when in danger.

Women are seen as in need of protection, shelter, and additional care by society. This is true even in supposedly more egalitarian countries in the "West" and in a few other places around the world. This means that any idea of forcing them to fight in a war will be met with disapproval, while men on the other hand are expected to just shut up and accept being forced into things like conscription due to historical precedent.

If society wants to protect women over men in terms of military service, then society needs to admit that some gender roles are important for society to maintain - meaning that men need to be given additional authority or other incentives to risk their lives.

Personally though, I dislike that idea. I would much prefer it that men and women both be treated equally, at least as much as is possible given our biological differences.

It's sad to see this trend continuing into the 21st century, but it is what it is.

All we can do is point out the absurdity of those who think women should be treated as weak and in need of protection from society, yet then act as though men are the ones being discriminated against in societies which give no legal or cultural advantage to men any longer in any reasonable way.

Well while i don’t think we should pretend a woman has rhe same combat value as a man. Maybe they should work for the same amount of time in administration. Or pay some tax. Like if man spends a year conscribed, she should pay her yearly earnings.
