I know this happens in Washington State. It’s worse. Move in with a single mom with a 10 year-old and the courts will say you’ve “bonded” enough with the child to pay support. Wouldn’t be surprised if this is the same in other states. It gets the state out of paying for her services .

In a paternity setting, a “Presumed Father” is a person who is recognized under law to be the legal father of a child. The person becomes the child’s legal father by operation of law, based on their conduct and the circumstances surrounding their relationship with the child.

I know this isn’t entirely related but I know someone here in Australia who failed a roadside drug test for THC. If the Police actually target you and it’s not a random test then it doesn’t count as a real test.

He proved it was targeted by getting the Police radio information (they had him charged for dealing but needed more). Even so, the judge said too bad you failed and suspended his licence.

Basically judges can do what they want.

You see that's what I don't understand about US law. How is it possible for court to rule in her favor, when he is not the biological father nor wants to legally adopt the child. I know that there is a legal principal that States that the child's interest is above everything, but how can they use that to make a man that isn't the biological nor the legal father pay child support, for what is literally someone else's kid. If anyone is a lawyer in the US or knows about US law that can elaborate on the subject.

I see stuff like this AND I also see stories of biological fathers being held accountable for paying child support even in cases of sperm donation and the like. So could a woman be getting child support payments from BOTH a biological father who isn’t in the picture and from a divorced “father” who also isn’t in the picture?
