My wife and I started counselling for our broken relationship / dead bedroom in November 2014. Two months later her mother was diagnosed with cancer and given 6 months to live. At this point counselling stopped but I continued reading and stumbled upon NMMNG and MMSLP and the penny dropped. I've made small steps forward improving myself and have put a minimum 16 month plan in place (1 month for every year we've been together). The biggest challenge I'm facing is the fact that my wife is going through a living nightmare with her Mum and I'm struggling to sense where the line is between improving me and supporting her. She is spending every waking moment with her Mum which, after several months had put huge pressure on me to hold down my job and manage our two kids. Yesterday she complained that I wasn't giving her the emotional support she needed and that she longed for a partner who knew how to love and look after her. Internally I'm thinking "and I'm longing for a partner who respects me and finds me attractive enough to fuck once in a while." Yesterday I had spent the day taking our children out while wife was at hospice. Kids have really struggled without their Mum around so it was important that they had some fun. And yet the wife complains that I'm not calling her to ask how she is or what she needs. Every time I have done this previously she has said she doesn't want to talk. Every time I have reached out to hug her she has pushed me away. Now I know that I have to ignore this and stick to my plan for me but the accusation that I don't care about her dying mother is a hard one to shrug off. Her finishing shot last night was "I can't wait until this is all over with Mum so I can leave you". What the hell am I supposed to say to that given the situation?
