My wife cheated on me repeatedly while we were dating (long distance relationship for a few years). After we had been married for 5 years, she finally came clean, presumably because she was eaten up with guilt.

I agreed to marriage counseling and we went within days of her revelation. The first thing the therapist did after we told her why were there was look at my wife and say, with incredulity, "Why on earth did you tell him!?"

Tell her that you hope her partner also explores his sexuality because it's his choice and that it happens again and again, then tell her that you sound horrible like she did. It is also hypocrisy, if a woman had told her the same thing the words coming out of her would be different and supportive towards that woman.

Explore other therapist opportunities. You should be the focus point not your ex GF sexual freedom. Act of cheating is a lie that ruins trust. A serious thing that can and should be discussed.

My last therapist told me not to make myself a victim when discussing spousal abuse towards me. She also described my diagnosed depression episodes as "feeling a little down."

i used to seek out female therapists because i was worried that i didnt understand women and i was doing something wrong and it would help me to bridge the gap and understand the constant lunacy i was experiencing with women.

then every female therapist i saw was completely incompetent, so now i have some great male therapists I see.

Therapists are trained to believe that men are inherently toxic & bad... they will almost always side with the "woman" & are quick to blame men for their own issues under the guise of "toxic masculinity", "patriarchy" & "male privilege"... ESPECIALLY if the therapist is female.

Therapy is a fucking joke, deeply anti-male & should be avoided like the plague. Even if you do find a non-ideological therapist (almost impossible), the likelihood that they will give you meaningful help is pathetically low. Better to just deal with it on your own.

Unfortunately, there are a fair amount of low-moral therapists who would at least assign partial blame to the victims for their partner cheating. Personally, I could never work with such a person.

It's obvious this counselor isn't a good fit for you, so I'd recommend finding someone else.

Before your next session write down, "im not, but I knew you wouldn't say the same was okay in reverse" on a piece of paper and put it in your pocket. Tell her you thought a lot about what she said and realized she was right, that your gf did have the right to explore her sexuality. Understanding this made you realize that it may be to your benefit to broaden your horizons and do the same and, after making some profiles on dating apps, you've started to explore your sexuality as well. Elaborate that on top of it boosting your self esteem by feeling more desirable that you feel so much better now knowing that you can freely experience whatever new sexual experiences you want to while still maintaining the security of having your relationship, and that it's so freeing to know that if your gf ever becomes more trouble than she's worth or dumps you for one of her others that it won't be any great loss due to all your backups now.

I'd say there's a good chance she'll tell you what you're doing is wrong (whether she knows you're saying this all just to force her hand or if she fully believes you) which is when you can pull out the paper. It serves the dual purpose of really driving the point home about how fucked up what/blatantly stupid what she said was while also providing proof that you're not just acting like you're lieing because she doesn't approve of what you're doing.

Frankly, you shouldn't have to be doing this kind of shit with your therapist to begin with.. I 100% agree that with the others saying that you should stop seeing her, make a complaint about how her biases served to heighten your anxiety and start seeing a new one.. I suggested the note thing because I did the same thing in a similar situation when talking with someone about a blatant double standard, and it ended up working out better than I thought.. however with my experience, it wasn't anyone close to someone like a therapist..

OK, this are my 2 cents based on your explanation here. I do not know story about you and your ex. I do not know you in general, your body language, or red flags that you or your ex showed. With that, I might persume that there is some indicator that you did show something to push into that direction. Session with your parrents might be tool to gauge truthfillnes to your own percieved reallity, your own ups and downs, and who should best know you beside your parents. Even if they are bad parents, it would show backgraound problems that you are not aware, and they would certainly show that witth their behaviour. Also, session in public would go long way by showing social mask in presence of another unknown people. While bias is possible, give it a try, there might be thing that you are not aware, and they are showing in a that setting.

Where are you? In all states in the US, therapy is private and confidential and should never take place in a public area, unless that is the only option and the reasons to have a session in a public place are extremely compelling.

Therapists can hold all sorts of views about what makes a person and their relationships healthy, but the therapist should not push their views onto the client. There is a lot that goes on in each therapy session, so without more context, it's hard to judge the therapist's comments accurately.

Therapy should be about helping people to explore themselves as they related to the world around them. It should be helping you to go further and deeper into health and towards wholeness. If you don't feel your therapist is working towards your goals, have a conversation with her. If there isn't a good fit, find another therapist.
