Back in 2004, a woman called Valerie Hudson published the book 'Bare Branches' (basically, the Chinese term for 'incel'). The availability of ultrasound scans was leading to sex-specific abortion in China. Couples were restricted to having one child, and parents would preferentially choose to have a boy - there were 120 live male births per 100 females at the time. When these males reached sexual maturity, Hudson foresaw that a significant proportion of males would be denied normal relationships, a socio-sexual situation which has caused unrest in China previously. Her prediction was that China would embark on a nationalistic war program, to alleviate the problem of excess male population. Any successful Taiwan operation would give China near complete control of the world semiconductor market. If you're giving the orders, there's a lot to be gained. For those sent to their death, maybe not so much....

[–]Albino478 39 points40 points41 points 3 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

And for such a shitty country. Like they have basically no freedom in china AND China supports kim jong-un where, again there is no freedom

[–]BlueBlus 11 points12 points13 points 3 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

China doesn’t have no freedom it’s pretty much a state run market society. As long as you don’t criticize the government your pretty much fine

[–]YourEyesAreBleeding 24 points25 points26 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

What you mean to say is that China gives it's citizens the illusion of freedom, by violently suppressing anything that goes against that narrative

[–]somethingneet 12 points13 points14 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

We all have the illusion of freedom

[–]Kinexity 14 points15 points16 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

It's expected they would need to drop about 600k troops to gain a foothold on the shores of Taiwan which is basically impossible to do in secret because you have way too many satellites over your head constantly and also it would be biggest assault in history. This year there was data leak from their people's registry which seemed to indicate they've been falsifying their demographics numbers and that they are already in a downward spiral giving them 4-5 years max to start this war. That's just not possible. Also they'd gain shit - Taiwanese will blow up everything before Chinese come and if they won't factories are placed near their shores which will guarantee their destruction during any invasion. I have my doubts China is so determined to stop their implosion so they'd start a war. It's more probable they'll start shooting their own in cases of unrest.

[–]miroku000 5 points6 points7 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

China is more likely to stick with influencing Taiwanese politicians to pass pro-China policies in the middle of the night. This is easier and cheaper than invading. I expect China to try to gain more and more economic influence over Taiwan so they can leverage them to throw temper tantrums whenever someone suggests Taiwan is not a territory of mainland China.

Of course that why feminism is against making the draft gender neutral because they know war will always be a problem.

[–]PonderingMan33 24 points25 points26 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Feminism has no problems with women rights in china, middle East, south america. Just as long as they benefit what they do is ok.

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points7 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Incorrect, they just focus more on the significantly less severe things that happen in their own countries. Pro-woman’s rights women aren’t allowed to exist in the Middle East, so not many feminists come from there.

[–]Anih1list 8 points9 points10 points 3 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

What are you talking about? The National Organization for Women endorsed draft equality, and the democrats sponsored a bill for it too. It was the Republicans who “protected masculinity” by stripping that provision. It has always been conservatives who want men to “heroically” die in war.

[–]keine7891 points 3 years ago [recovered] (1 child) | Copy Link

democrats have the house the senate and the presidency

[–]Anih1list 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Changing the draft has no direct budgetary effect so it can’t be passed by budget reconciliation. It must be passed with 60 votes. All thanks to ya boy Josh Hawley

[+]CorrectShun -65 points-64 points-63 points 3 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

Is it feminism doing that?

Might make more sense to blame the republican politicians that voted against it rather than feminism.

[–]TrilIias 45 points46 points47 points 3 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

This is an interesting one.

A men's rights group took it to court which resulted in a ruling that the male only draft was unconstitutional. However, the Supreme Court said that since Congress was about to decide whether to require women to register, the Court would not intervene. Then, of course, Congress decided not to register women for the draft.

Many feminists have argued that they do fight for equality in this area, and that they only failed because of Republicans. But look at it this way, if the Democrats (feminists) hadn't done anything at all, then there would have been no reason for the Supreme Court to not act on the lawsuit by the men's rights group. And I don't think the feminists really wanted to make women have to register. The provision that would have drafted women was in the annual defense bill that has passed every year for decades. There was practically a 1% chance that it wouldn't go through, but then they managed to get it removed from the defense bill. Republicans are a minority in Congress, they don't get to make any decisions unless they are united, and on this issue, they aren't (unless the Republicans supporting a female-inclusive draft are liars).

I think feminists just wanted their plausible deniability. It would have barely taken any effort for them to stay the course and make women register. So are they just uniquely incompetent in this situation, or were they just hoping that they could let Republicans take the fall on this one? And what was the result? Well, this was pretty much the only outcome in which women don't have to register. Had the Democrats (feminists) done more, women would be drafted, and had they done less, women would be drafted. It's enough to make me think it was likely intentional.

And guess what, this year Congress is once again considering making women subject to the draft. I guess since Congress is thinking of doing it, the Supreme Court shouldn't step in and make that decision for them. Who cares if it's unconstitutional, Congress is totally on it this time!

[–]dekadoka 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Looking strictly at actions rather than talking points, feminism has always been about making life as good as possible for women and making life more shitty for men if necessary. When it comes to real equality rather just minor complaints and women exercising their freedoms in ways feminists don't like, making life better for men or reducing quality of life for women is off the table.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

You’re reading this case wrong. If the Supreme Court ruled it unconstitutional then congress is bound to follow that rule. Congress cannot answer questions about constitutionality of a statute.

Was it a lower court decision that the SC didn’t rule on?

[–]TrilIias 5 points6 points7 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

It was a lower court, and when it went to the Supreme Court they declined to rule on it because Congress was about to make a decision.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Oh, interesting.

[–]OldEgalitarianMRA 3 points4 points5 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Feminist orgs supported draft equality but the women of the US are not mainly feminists and wrote in in large numbers to Congress and stopped the bill. Eventually even NOW did not support draft equality except to support the non-position of eliminating the draft, which they know our war like nation would never do.

So yes, plausable deniability.

Yeaaa ☝️ this person has a point

[+][deleted] -13 points-12 points-11 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Feminists aren’t against that. The politicians who created the draft (overwhelmingly male) are against it. And I can think of a few good reasons why drafting women to the military isn’t a good idea for the military….

[–]DirtyDan419 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Wait I had to sign up for the draft over a decade ago. Women do not still?

[–]Fast-Mongoose-4989 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Yes women don't have to sign up for the draft

[–]DirtyDan419 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I thought we would be more progressive by now I guess.

[–]BushAlaskan 0 points1 point2 points 2 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Because women only wanna support things that benefit them. But when they want complete equality, they back off. Put them on the draft since they wanna be so equal.

War with China is not war with Russia, no nukes would be used.

[–]Ok_Scallion_4135 7 points8 points9 points 3 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

China has nuclear weapons- and are allied with north korea , which also have nuclear weapons. Its also hard for a nuclear power like russia to avoid getting involved in this conflict

[–]applewafflecrisp 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

China has approx 50-100 Nukes available out of only 300, built in the 1960s. North Korea is only a threat to South Korea. China also does not have the nuclear delivery systems the US and Russia have. We would detect a launch and glass all of China before 1 of their nukes even got to orbit.

[–]Ok_Scallion_4135 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

they have hypersonic missiles..

[–]applewafflecrisp 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

their last test missed the mark by 12miles lol

[–]Ok_Scallion_4135 2 points3 points4 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

thats better than no hypersonic missile at all, and a twelve mile distance wont make a difference fora nuclear weapon

[–]applewafflecrisp 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Good thing the US would not do anything militarily if China invaded Taiwan then. It would be another Ukraine

[–]YourEyesAreBleeding 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Why? China has nukes too

[–]applewafflecrisp 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

China has a couple hundred, one american Nuclear sub could destroy every city in China before the first rocket sent from China even hit orbit

[–]YourEyesAreBleeding 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

What does number have to do with how fast they're sent out? Is it the location of the Silos?

I was just thinking that 300 nukes is still enough to basically destroy the world, and so it's like drowning in 300ft of water vs. 6000ft of water.

If the amount is so high because we have them in all different locations, so that we can launch them the fastest, that changes things. That's something I never thought about or considered until now

[–]applewafflecrisp 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

China is a localized location, their nukes would only come from one place, makes it much easier to shoot them down. They do not have submarines capable of launching strikes, so the US just needs 1 or 2 of these subs hidden away in the arctic, and China knows this. So lets say China does a first strike, fires 50 at the US, we shoot down 35 of them, 15 hit their mark and half go off. Sure 7 cities are gone, but in that time, China is finished. They have hyper-sonic missile, but they are not accurate yet at all so they would not be using those for their small nuclear arsenal. Essentially we have a knife at the throat of all our enemies and they know it. Nukes wont be used

[–]Jerry_217-21 points 3 years ago [recovered] (1 child) | Copy Link

How old are you grandpa? There industry capacity belittles the rest of the world, 50 nuclear war heads? I am thinking about 5000 if they want to start a war. I would love to be peaceful to them. I mean you and your family can enjoy the nukes, I don’t.

[–]applewafflecrisp 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Well according to every source on earth, they have about 200-300. Dude wtf are you talking about? China can't develop anything, so it's all cheap knockoff shit. https://www.reuters.com/article/us-china-engine-idUSBRE89S17B20121029

I know this article is 10 years old, but you can find tons of evidence that China still has not figured out making jet engines. Maybe look some shit up and learn some shit before typing next time

Nice try, Uncle Sam. Can't draft me if I identify as female.

[–]Amazing-Bit6140 24 points25 points26 points 3 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Ukraine certainly didn't care what they "claimed" to be.

Trans-men were allowed to leave the country, i'd also believe trans-women were forced to stay and fight given what they did to the men.

[+]Lightning77Plus -11 points-10 points-9 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Opinions on the situation in Ukraine aside, I suppose it's a special exception when your country is being invaded. I don't really know the political climate there so I don't have enough info to form a strong opinion on this.

I have been growing increasingly worried about being drafted or conscripted if my country decides to go to work with a major power. I didn't serve long, but I am ex-military.

[–]Amazing-Bit6140 13 points14 points15 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It's war. There's always a "special exception".

[–]Anih1list 3 points4 points5 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The selective service is based on birth sex. But yeah, if our laws were more leftist, you legitimately could do that, and that’s a good thing.

[–]eatforlife 19 points20 points21 points 3 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

The war will be fought by 99.99% men but you will only hear about the few female army rangers.

[–][deleted] -4 points-3 points-2 points 3 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

There has been 1 female army ranger throughout US history. 0 female SEALs. Men are better for war. The consequences of a war between the US and China would be much greater than the soldiers who die in battle.

[–]CorrectShun 28 points29 points30 points 3 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

I'm of the mind that no one should be uprooted from their home and sent to die in a war that someone else started.

Drafting men or women is completely unnecessary in today's technonology based war efforts.

[–]Ancient_Lithuanian 10 points11 points12 points 3 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Well, I would be all for it, but the only countries my country will be fighting are dictatorships. They will forcefully draft men and maybe women. We would just be outnumbered. Even technology can not save us from 100s of millions Chinese soldiers.

[–]BushAlaskan 0 points1 point2 points 2 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Women would be worthless in war. Not nearly as strong as men. If they were captured as a POW, we would treat it significantly different than a man being captured. Having women in a huge conflict would absolutely screw us in the long term. Not worth it.

[–]Ancient_Lithuanian 0 points1 point2 points 2 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

We are not going to war with China

[–]khagrul 4 points5 points6 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Hey quick question, why do you think china just modernized their entire military with body armor, rifles and night vision, and have been talking more than usual about Taiwan, with XI saying that by the end of the century Taiwan will be reunited.

Do you think that's nothing to worry about?

You think NATO is going to let the Chinese sieze the entire global silicone manufacturing sector (which we need for all our technology, not just weapons)?

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I don’t think it’s “nothing to worry about”. I think we should be concerned about China, but I don’t think war is reasonably foreseeable.

Nato isn’t going to let China seize the world economy, but isn’t going to stop them by starting an armed conflict.

[–]Chome_gnompy 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link

Pretty sure Ukranians said that about Russia at the beginning of this year and look whats happening there right now.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

They would have been stupid to say that about Russia. Russia invaded Ukraine in 2015 and annexed Crimea. These two situations are not the same.

[–]Chome_gnompy 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

I mean China has been waging an info war on the west for just as long. They may not be using tanks but they are 100% making an invasion AS WE SPEAK.

If you live in the west and don't believe you are in danger, than you sir, are an idiot.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

Lol, ok. China has little to gain and MUCH to lose by starting an armed conflict with the US, and they would almost certainly lose (albeit, we all lose if the US and China go to war).

It doesn’t make any sense to worry about China attacking the US, and this post claiming that Biden is “pledging direct war” with China is a straight up lie.

[–]Chome_gnompy 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Awww you actually think Americans can safely take on the Chinese army. Thats so cute. Too bad Biden is more concerned with dying their personels hair pink.

Spoiler alert: China doesnt even give a fuck about their own peoples wellbeing, let alone ours. Mao killed 50 million of his own people and Winnie the Pooh wants to be just like Mao.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

I mean, you’re just speaking nonsense. Your comment about pink hair is completely unfounded. War between the US and China would be mutual destruction.

[–]pennywise1235 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (13 children) | Copy Link

We will not reinstate the draft for military service here in the US. Think about this for a minute. The active duty military consists of approximately 1.3 million volunteer service members, another 800k reserve forces, 330k national guard troops, and about 19 million veterans, with about 10 million from the last 20-30 years. If the draft is even being debated out loud by politicians with any sort of interest, that means all those forces have annihilated and it’s time to make citizen’s take up arms. If that happens, the draft is the least of your worries, and the system is dead. Not starving to death and hiding from roving gangs of Negan wannabes is what will be the soup of the day.

[–]Amazing-Bit6140 7 points8 points9 points 3 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link

Not annihilated, starved.

Military recruiting is in the toilet, boys are waking up to the scam and seeing how veterans are treated when they come back. Combined with the info-wars china and russia have been waging fairly successfully to de-program americans from the "america is the greatest!" indoctrination, there won't be many volunteers in the future.

Which is what the draft is for: INvolunteers. Which is why it's important we get the other half of the voting population added to it so they face the same consequences. Otherwise we'll see just how willing women are to send men to their deaths.

[–]pennywise1235 2 points3 points4 points 3 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link

I’m not arguing for women to be included or excluded. I’m saying that if f it comes down to talk of the draft being implemented for any Americans, we’ll have bigger problems than male rights being infringed upon.

[–]Amazing-Bit6140 5 points6 points7 points 3 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

No, we really won't, because women being drafted will mean saving millions of lives of men. Which makes it a very important men's rights issue.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

You’re being narrow-minded. This guy is saying that if the US needs to do a draft, our military is in shambles and we are in serious trouble. The fact that only men get drafted won’t be an important issue at that point.

[–]Amazing-Bit6140 5 points6 points7 points 3 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

The fact that only men get drafted won’t be an important issue at that point.

Doubling the potential recruitment target wouldn't be an important issue if our military is in shambles and in dire need of new recruits enough to force people into it?

Sure. I'm the narrow minded one. lol

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago* (1 child) | Copy Link

We’re probably fucked at that point anyway. We aren’t having a draft.

Edit: good call deleting these replies 😂

[–]Amazing-Bit6140 5 points6 points7 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That's bullshit, we're close to one already due to china's aggressiveness.

Your attitude is, at best, sticking your head in the sand and, at worst, deliberately malicious handwaving the issue away from a danger you know women might also be forced to face.

stop trolling.

[–]pennywise1235 2 points3 points4 points 3 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

You’re not getting what I’m saying. If the draft is reinstated, the actual military is mostly dead and it will be every man for themselves. That’s the end of the American way of life for everyone.

[–]Amazing-Bit6140 5 points6 points7 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

You're not getting what i'm saying.

If the draft is reinstated. the military isn't mostly dead, and is just understaffed due to what they wish to accomplish. It will not be the end of the american way of life, just the way of life for those who are forced to fight and die.

[–]pennywise1235 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Ok, so the US military has been an all volunteer force since 1973, the year the draft ended. Since then, the disconnect between military forces and the public has only gotten stronger, more so after 20 years of brushfire combat, and a govt willing to use its military as a social experiment. Now, all that being said, if a war kicked off between say, the US and China, and if the US military were summarily defeated in a manner in which there is not an operational force projection capability left, and if the political situation in CONUS has become a cover your ass and get out of dodge kind of a thing, the last idea that will even be joked about on Chinese State News is a reintroduction of the military draft into the American society. This is for three real reasons.

  1. The overwhelming majority of those of age to serve in the military are not medically, psychologically, emotionally or physically able to do so.

  2. Those who would be able to physically serve but who do not choose to are not going to suddenly develop a desire to right the wrongs and pick up arms. That’s ignorant to think they would.

  3. Finally, neither political party has the stones to try it, short of nuclear war or something along those lines.

Real life isn’t a Tom Clancy novel or a modern version of “message to Garcia”.

[–]Spare_Development615 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link

He might be bluffing for all we know, and his words are against official US policy so he's kinda talking out of both sides of his mouth.

China isn't dumb enough to invade Taiwan, they'll saber rattle but they're not stupid.

The US is not only the most powerful country in the world, it's the most powerful country that has ever existed, it can probably handle 3 Chinas without too much difficulty, and they're surrounded by US partners and allies and don't have a blue water navy, Japan, South Korea and Australia would rip their heads off and shit down their neck.

[–]Bland-fantasie 7 points8 points9 points 3 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

You may be right, but isn’t the US policy strategic ambiguity? Seems to me he could well be stating the true US policy, which will be to honor the defence treaty with Taiwan.

China is modernizing its military and has stated overtly and clearly that unification by 2049 is happening. Xi has tied his legacy to this issue.

US is powerful militarily, but apparently loses every war game in the South China Sea in China’s backyard. It doesn’t make sense that the US would fake that loss.

[–]RatDontPanic 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

that the US would fake that loss.

Except to lull the Chinese into complacency. China could very well wind up like Russia vs Ukraine except the US is also helping out.

That would be an unprecedented gamble!

[–]odysseytree 3 points4 points5 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That's impossible. Only 50% of the army can be killed. Once one side hits 51%, both sides annihilate each other with nukes.

[–]rocker12341234 -5 points-4 points-3 points 3 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

you forget none of us are nato yall are... itll be ukraine all over again... us will sit on the sidelines with thoughts and prayers cause corporate fucks with apparently more power than country leaders told yall not to intervene, while the rest of us are put on a suicide mission... on the bright side tho, last i checked china was mainly training defensively... so they clearly know their days of riding the highs of the war are coming to an end. altho... china does keep fucking around every time the USAF is in aus, so its only a matter of time before they finally find out why you dont fuck around with B2s and their escorts.

[–]Spare_Development615 8 points9 points10 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Nato isn't the only treaty in the world you know, all the asian countries have treaties with the US afaik, and the US has been balls deep in Ukraine since perestroyka, hybrid warfare is not "thoughts and prayers," the US is unique in its ability to shape and control the battlefield.

It could be that the US secretly doesn't care that much about Ukraine or sees them as another corrupt eastern european regime, so we're using them and they're using us while keeping at arms length for strategic reasons. I don't know if that's the case.

I do know the war in Ukraine is having severe repercussions on the world economy, the US is at its breaking point in terms of what it can do without putting boots on the ground.

So far they're moving B52's around to show Russia we're serious, they're flexing to show each other "red lines" and there's alot of back channel posturing.

[–]rocker12341234 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

last i checked nato themselves said they aint letting anyone intervene heavily with ukraine hence only allowing weapon resupplies and stuff (or atleast natos been trying to take credit for the aid they've been getting). and while yea we have treaties and i guess unlike ukraine we do have us bases which makes things different. but i still highly doubt anyone would actually have our backs if a war broke out... hell look at the middle east while obama was in, we got thrown under the bus constantly to clean up his drone messes. so i honestly think the only way in hell we'll get genuine support is if china hits us units or bases when they inevitably attack, other than that we probs wont get shit... uk on the other hand tho, might very well break nato protocol to help us, cause we are one of their colonies afterall.

but when push came to shove and we were being bullied and threatened by china constantly a couple years ago almost no one said shit... they just offered to take our wine and meat since china didn't want it... hell contrary to everyone's believe that trump was a tyrant, he was the only leader i remember standing up to china and he's the only one to ever have the balls to put kimmy in his place. like, i dont overly like the dude, hes a bit of a fruitloop but he had a backbone in that regard and that's respectable imo considering even our own pm was running with his dick between his legs.

like, idk... i know the US forces respect us highly still like back in the wars, but i highly doubt pedo joe will authorise shit unless his property gets touched directly. thats just my honest opinion.

Just study for the asvab. Go airforce if anything. They deploy only 6 months instead of a year. Active duty deploys less than reserves or national guard, least that's how it was when I was in the army. Dont listen to your recruiter they're full of shit. Pass the pt test before you go in. There's multiple ways to get a few ranks before enlisting. You make your contract at MEPS and do a 2-3 year. Then if you dont like your job you can switch quickly into something you really love. Plus re enlisting bonuses are better than the initial bonuses you can get.

[–]The3Percenterz 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link

LMFAO. USAF 10yr veteran here. Switch jobs? OH GOOD LUCK. LOL. Bonuses? Never got one. 6 month deployments? I did 8 months. Also, knew many guys that did year long tours in such fucked places, they had to sleep in coffin transfer cases, because so much shit was flying around. AIR FORCE? THE DAY I ARRIVED TO BASIC TRAINING IN LACKLAND, I KNEW IT WAS JUST ONE THING. CLEVER MARKETING. My bro from the Coast Guard, 01-03, did convoys. Yeah, he killed himself in 2018... was seemingly normal. Not. Its way worse than some Hollywood film.

[–]Jurai153 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link

Can use the blue green law to switch if wanted. Was army as an 11b. Had my fun and got out in 11. Airforce have way better duty stations than any branch and can do your school while in. The suicide rate has always been extremely high. Once you get out there's no help or caring for vets. My condolences for your bro, lost enough battle buddies for a lifetime. You choose an mos that won't put you directly into needs of the military like mechanic or medic.

[–]The3Percenterz 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

My job was mission essential, logistics, loading usaf planes. I saw 1 guy actually do blue to green successfully. Look at essential manning... they lock you in. Can do school while in? Sure, I got my associates. Most people have no time for school.

[–]Jurai153 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

Agreed that's how I got suckered. Was told I could do school and was out in the field every other month. Yeah if you're essential your shit outta luck. During deployment we had a fuck ton of airforce mechanics as our drivers.

[–]The3Percenterz 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

Damn. Yeah, mission essential, grrr. I would have had my PHD in 9yrs if I was finance. I should have come in with a guaranteed job instead of 10 random selections. Thank God I didn't get maintenence. Jesus Christ, if you're out there, thank you.

[–]Jurai153 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

As soon as my 6 year contract was up I was burnt out not gunna lie. Did 3 tours in the sandbox and that was enough for me. They wanted me to re up and offered a bonus that wasn't enough (the taxes on bonuses are bonkers!) Man I dont blame you not wanting maintenance. My 1st deployment we took 3 airforce medics, 6 mechanics, and 4 for other jobs I dont remember. I felt bad for the mechanics most of all because they became drivers we pulled through some heavy shit lol. Great guys but got royally screwed. The 1st medic we kept the entire deployment. The moment I got out I went and finally started my degree. Felt like Adam sandler in big daddy sitting in class with kids that had no clue what the military was like. The main airforce base we got to go to to travel back to baumholder (170th) had it all. Made me really regret my choice in the army. Right before my last deployment we were a tank unit. Then they shipped them to bliss. Then we became a cave scout/ infantry unit. Then 4 weeks right before we were deploying they pulled the cav and sent them to bliss. So when we finally got to go to the sandbox we were a light infantry unit. I tell anyone that wants to enlist go airforce. Way better on the body but ALWAYS be careful what mos you choose. Its changed alot since I got out in 2011. My nephew who I warned time and time again believed you couldn't deploy while in school. Best part he told me AFTER meps. That numbnuts signed a 6 year like me as a combat medic being told by the recruiter he wouldn't see combat...Needless to say I chewed through that recruiting station.

WTF. He's fucked. He'll be 100% pt for PTSD... dude. Some jobs life fuck you, and have 0 future on the outside.

Learned that with 11b. Either security, police or swat. The town that tried to hire me as police wanted me to work for 13 an hour. Needless to say I laughed and walked.

lmfao. I quit applying. Was a pattern of either a MLM scam, underpaid, dying company, garbage company, or shit my body cannot do anymore. We tend to get used, abused, discriminated. I even cutoff my whole family bc I couldn't enjoy my own life, without hearing their horse shit.

[–]Jurai1532 points 3 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

I totally feel that. Parts of my family tried to go on the "oh ptsd is all made up, it's all in your head." I did the same thing. That and when you get out of the military they treat you like an ex they hate. Vets are treated like absolute garbage.

[–]The3Percenterz1 point 3 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Yeah man, agree 100%. I went in, told my story and showed my medical recs. They were like holy shit. All I needed to do. Yeah, my family were garbage. I had to throw em away. Best decision I ever made ever. 7 months later, I'm doing WHAT I WANT. Made everybody's heads spin. I then cleaned up my FB so they couldn't spy on my life. Felt freeing.

Yes, the US plans to defend its allies. This isn’t a gender issue at all, it’s called international relations.

[–]Amazing-Bit6140 7 points8 points9 points 3 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

It's a gender issue because only one gender will be doing it.

[–]Donut_of_Patriotism -2 points-1 points0 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

The US military includes men and women (albeit more men than women) and is a volunteer army. If you don’t want to fight a war then don’t join up.

Not saying I support fighting wars Willy nilly, but defending our allies is a good use of the military.

I believe he's not talking about voluntary military service he's talking about involuntary military service otherwise known as the draft. Only men are required to be drafted.

When the time will come, Biden will send his prayers, not troops.

There’s no way in the current climate we pick a war with China. We are fighting a proxy war with Russia. And we aren’t winning. Unlike the men of our past our young men aren’t about to line up for duty. And draft be damned. Russians didn’t motivate our Youth I imagine not much will.

[–]arbrebiere 6 points7 points8 points 3 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Russia is losing lol

[–]Amazing-Bit6140 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

this, tbh.

Russia has waged a fairly successful information war for decades, but for physical war they haven't kept up with the times. They can't even invade neighboring countries successfully, much less wage a war against america.

China will be a different game, though.

[–]YourEyesAreBleeding 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Who's to say America isn't also so weak? We lost to a rag-tag group of religious extremists in the middle east with no advanced weaponry beyond $20 rifles

[–]Amazing-Bit6140 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Guerilla warfare is a different ballgame.

Americans won in the same scenario against the british some decades earlier. It's not the strength of america's military that caused that 'war' to fail.

[–]Amazing-Bit6140 3 points4 points5 points 3 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Nothing, they didn't like the message so they sling slurs about men.

Standard feminist troll

[–][deleted] -3 points-2 points-1 points 3 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Incel is a slur now?

[–]Amazing-Bit6140 2 points3 points4 points 3 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

always has been (almost, as soon as it was used as an insult against people were didn't specifically identify as involuntarily celibate, it became a slur)

People are so sensitive. It’s a funny term for someone who doesn’t fuck.

[–]YourEyesAreBleeding 4 points5 points6 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Is the N word is a funny term for someone who is black?

[–]Mutzga 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

[–]HistoricalSomewhere3 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Not every war has a draft, but yea if this one does it’ll be fucked up

[–]HotaruZoku 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It's real easy to talk a good consequence game when you have no direct hand in enforcing them.

[–]_BlueShark87 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
