If you know that your supposed personal experience is completely contrary to statistical reality, and you should know, since there is an entire intacticivist movement, then why would you share your little anecdote? It's absolutely reckless. It's like saying "I personally don't know any women who were groped and wish they hadn't been, and I know many who wish they were groped more" It's disgusting.

I hate how people think this choice should be left up to the parents and not the penis owner. Also, it’s crazy that this is still a debate in the USA! People act like this is a choice that needs to be decided on, when doctors shouldn’t even be operating on the genitals of CHILDREN, when there is no medical issue.

Yeah I also hate stuff like that. It’s the exact same reasoning that they use for piercing a babies ears. I will never understand it to be honest. If it’s what they want when they’re older then that would be one thing but I’m not putting my baby through traumatic pain that they can’t even process. Anyone who’s dealt with a sick baby before knows it’s heart wrenching. All they can do is cry because that’s all they know to express pain and discomfort. I would never purposefully put them through that.

Couldn't be further from my personal experience. My home country has traditions around circumcision (The circumcision rate is in the 90% range) and mine was done non consensually at 10 years old. I've also met a number of others who regret it.

True. It is disgusting.

There are women who want to be cut too.

And generally it is women who are propagating FMG, not men.

And there are women who do not mind. Because they think it is normal part of life. The mothers who choose it for their daughters.

We still do not pretend it is okay. We actually went so far as to start enforcing the ban in communities where FMG was tradition. In case of men we go the other way and protect tradition.

In SA each year in the past five years a hundred boys died at a single mass circumcision event. In the USA each year over a hundred boys die. And many more all over the world.

And they are ill lie it is harmless or even beneficial.

Not a frequent visitor to this sub but had this post brought to my attention by a good friend of mine.

I do agree with the notion that there's nothing wrong with "either choice" - it just should be a choice.

This procedure is not something that should be taken lightly; hopefully educational reforms can help with this sort of thing in future.

Also, men who are “happy” about being cut only know what being cut is like, so of course they will be happy. I don’t think men would be too happy about finding out the real reasons behind why it was done and how exploitive it actually is.

I have heard cut men wish they weren't, and those aren't but kind of want it only does so because of pressure from women who think a normal penis looks weird and filthy.

Typically, the cut guys don't dwell on it too much because they can't realistically change it and go back, and so choose to not dwell on it too much.

We need to understand why these men want to be cut. In a society where it's preferred and idealized to be circumcised, there will be men who aren’t circumcised who regret not being circumcised, because that's what their culture prefers. I bet in countries where circumcision isn't really a thing, you won't really see men regretting not being circumcised.

Also, to play their game, we could say the patriarchy brainwashed men into thinking it's preferable to want to be circumcised.

Given how much easier it is to cut off your foreskin later than to restore it and how the latter is still a popular thing for purely personal reasons, vs the leading case in adult circumcision being conditions like phimosis, this seems at best a good case for why data is not the plural of anecdote and at worst some dishonest manipulation.

Not shocking at all that it’s a woman saying it too. They love to say my body my choice when defending their “right” to kill a child rather than be responsible for their actions.

But when they have a newborn son? Well, then they suddenly switch up to “his body, still my choice”. You can’t make up this level of ego, hypocrisy, sexism, delusion.

Also, she’s never heard guys complain about it because they get shamed and bullied if they do. It’s not easy to publicly talk about “my penis was violated at birth and I’m mad about it.”

You can’t change it once it’s happened.

I can't imagine mine cut so never bothered. Parents didnt tell me anything but I personally prefer this approach with a future son. We're only familiar with ourselves and most if not all are happy with theirs.

Deciding based on stats is dumb too. Never crossed my mind that most are.
