I find it sad that so many parents don’t realize that in the 1970s, feminists won legislation (WEEA) that provided the means and revenue to influence U.S. education to focus on girls, to the detriment of boys. It worked.

Dr. Christina Hoff-Sommers documents this well in her book: “The War Against Boys”

Of course in addition to WEEA, we see no boys allowed college prep programming, biased title ix protocols (as this article mentions) and various anti-male programs. Of course most colleges have entire women’s studies departments dedicated to pushing anti-male propaganda.

One of the gender related things that frustrates me most is people acting as if why males are doing worse in school is some big mystery when the purposeful discrimination is documented and obvious to anyone willing to do the basic fact finding.

This thread makes me lose faith in any hope of progress. Seeing teachers talk about boys giving up due to "patriarchy" enforcing entitlement and complacency is completely absurd. These boys are not heartless calculators. They aren't reading intersectional feminist theory and seeking to coast purely on their "privilege".

Endless comments about how girls are just much better than those silly boys who are just an annoying disturbance. Appeals to a lack of demand on boys, toxic masculinity, and the like, but little to no introspection on how schools as institutions can fix these problems. Half the users suggesting that the solution is to "smash the patriarchy".

Threads like these show me the monopoly feminist ideology holds over people who have the responsibility to oversee the formation of young men. The entire conversation has been completely neutered by nonsensical dogma that restricts any consideration of meaningful action to help men or boys. I just don't know what we are supposed to do.

That was horrible. Boys are defective girls to those teachers. No compassion or empathy for half their students.

They acknowledged the rise of single mothers and the lack of "role models" for boys is the main problem.

Who are these missing "role models"? I guess they don't want to admit boys need fathers.

Support default 50/50 because fathers are the solution to boys under performance at school.

If I had to do it over I would have sent my son to an all boys school.

I saw "Toxic Masculinity" so many times there it made me nauseous. I'm so sick of everybody endlessly repeating that meaningless phrase just because it's trendy in their hive-mind, can't-think-for-yourself world.

To most of them it's anything a male says or does that they don't like, any time a male doesn't act or think like a female, or a convenient way to shut down conversation through passive-aggressive insult and an attempt to guilt trip.

It's intellectual laziness and conformity of the most basic, dumbed-down sort.

The people in that thread look at boys underperforming and basically all state variations of the same solution: "boys need to stop being boys, it's better if they're more like girls".

We need to separate the sexes in education and stop letting women teach boys. Letting generations of feminists educate boys has been one of the largest failed experiments in human history.

That comment section is sad.

Parts of it get derailed to talk about girls.

Half of it is blaming the boys or people like Andrew Tate. As if middle schoolers are listening to fucking Tate lol.

And the rest completely misunderstands the problem and attacks any man who dares to tell them that more of the same shitty methods they've been using won't work.

People don't want to hear that 7th grade boys need to be taught and treated differently, apparently. They think the problem is that they haven't found a way to make the boys act like girls and are looking for different ways to make that happen instead of trying to cater their methods to their students.

I’m happy to see this being mentioned here! I just came out of that thread thinking it was sad how much gender politics seems to have influenced the way teachers interact with little boys and young men. Weird logic like, “girls are doing better because they have the burden of having to actually work for their success, whereas boys just feel entitled to it because they’re coddled”? How is boys lagging behind girls and dropping out of life somehow another example of girls and women being the victims? Some were even congratulating each other because their elementary aged daughters now know their worth in society and aren’t interested in boys’ immaturity. Like little girls are winning big against the patriarchy here or something. As a father of a son that will be going to school in a few years, it saddens me to think of what he may have to deal with. I had posted a comment there, but out of respect to the pinned comment here, I’ve deleted it. Whole thing sucks. Can’t even call them out on how little they care about little boys without them thinking you’re a misogynist because you do.

To my shame I stopped pursuing a career in education when I met a roadblock.

I was in a masters program for my masters in education, which focused on practical learning. We would be placed under a teacher for our chosen subject, and then follow along with them, taking more and more control of the class as the year went on.

I was one of the 2 males in the program. The other being a Pacific Islander guy who was a pretty cool dude. The rest were young women, and one transgender MTF.

All of the other students were placed under teachers who had spent years In their subjects, and most of them were placed in high schools or elementary schools which matched their requests. While despite me wanting to teach at a high school, I ended up at a intercity middle school that had just had its funding transferred, due to them surpassing their education goals.

The teacher I was assigned to was clearly inexperienced in the subject she was supposed to be teaching.(I later learned that she had moved over the same year from the schools English department.) And despite my best efforts to get instruction from her, she provided little in the way of advise.

I started going down the hall to another teacher who was male, closer to my age and was actually a veteran part of the department that I was supposed to be learning from for help, and it worked for a bit, but then it seemed like a switch was flipped and everything turned against me.

I was ‘encouraged’ to drop the program. My class advisor, both of my professors, and the teacher I was assigned to(all female) suggested and pushed it. And the naive just graduated college boy that I was, I did. I had lost all the will to continue.

They had taken all the interest in teaching that i had and crushed it, through troublemaking middle school students that wouldn’t listen despite my best efforts to connect with them, thorough critiques of my lessons, even though I followed their guidelines to the letter, and the lack of any real support from my mentor… it just drained me, emotionally and mentally.

It's mostly just navel-gazing about the patriarchy, how generalizations about boys/men are acceptable (but not against women, that's hateful!), and maybe one or two users who are actually standing up for boys. The teachers defending their misandry sound about as mature as the kids they purport to teach.

Maybe if they pulled their stubborn heads out of their asses, they'd realize that the male experience they're talking about is the exact opposite of what they've convinced themselves.

I’ve been saying it for years now. Men are raised to be nothing more than labor in society. We are becoming only fit for trade work because the education system is rigged against boys. The future is female was the slogan I kept hearing 10 years ago. This is what it looks like.

It's so depressing. They acknowledge boys are failing, but they are either clueless about why or just explicitly blame the boys. It'll never end. It'll never change. It's already at critical levels and it's either ignored or boys are blamed.

Both sexes are locked in their own feedback loop.

Girls are in a positive feedback loop where the more schools fill with female teachers the more they see school as womanly/feminine and as they overtake boys its cheered on and celebrated by these female teachers. Any time girls lag female teachers set up girl only programnes and block boys. Girls then look forward to more more millions in female only scholarships, stipends, grants, bursaries, phds, mbas etc etc all while being the MAJORITY of students at university!

Boys are in a negative feedback loop where the more prejudices against men around children spread thru society and into schools men leave teaching. Boys then are surrounded by women and associate school with something women and girls are good at, not boys. Boys are also not allowed to do better than girls in anything as its seen as 'male privilege' so their hard work is just privilege (Bearing in mind when girls score higher they worked for it according to feminists/leftists). Boys are also given no help when they lag and are stereotyped as lazy and immature and drugged with Ritalin to get them to act like girls. NB - lets be quite honest and say these female teachers are most often feminist activists , dont like boys and want these gaps to widen.

The question is not are boys lagging, but why wouldn't girls overtake boys in school?

The problem is both boys and girl are roughly equally intelligent so should be expected to do as well in school. So something is amiss.

It starts from the beginning when they enter school. Boys at that age are constantly told "no". I have a theory that boys and girls should learn separately especially because girls can sit for longer periods of time and the boys will be compared to her. In addition, women seem to inherently have a problem with how young boys behave when they are only doing what is natural. Because the schools (I'm talking elementary) are run by women who don't understand boys, they start trying to turn them into the girls who seemingly behave.

Women love to treat simple men as mentally decient; they get off on it. Simple men are often just quiet, and gritting their teeth through all the judgment. A whole lot goes on under the surface. Uneducated or less-educated men are often a lot smarter than people realise, but their potential is muted so it's tempting to judge them.

Haven’t seen or read anything about this here, but I do know that with the current model of education it has long been known that boys do not do well in learning. They are generally active and like to build and construct and destroy. They need to be engaged, not lectured. Why our current system can’t accommodate that is beyond me.

As a tutor I work closely with a lot of male students and sometimes I TA CompSci courses. From my anecdotal experience, whether or not a student whether male or female will be successful 100% depends on their home environment. The parents who seek out my services tend to fall into two categories parent led or child led. Those who come from parent led usually have one or more parent in the field who introduced students. On the other the child led group are children who requested their parent if they can have coding classes. I find that a lot of my male students tend to come from the child led, most common reason is they want help developing a video game. The ones who parental support and or a those who strong desire or goal are very successful.

Role models are a big issues too. Male teachers are necessary, if you are not a teacher and you have children participate in school events. In my CompSci class, I host a game jam the first Saturday of the month. Parents are in invited to come and rarely do I see any dads and when I do it is usually to support their daughters. The students who parents do not come are all boys. The few boys who parents attend have fathers but, I only see the mother come.

My husband volunteer with me quite often and we are a child free couple. We help out at the YMCA/Local School Events. The boys always swarm him because he is literally the only male volunteer at a lot of these events. If he attends my game jam the boys always perform much better too. It is crazy how they light up because they are receiving male attention. It’s sad but it’s the truth.

The internet is very negative and boys are being exposed to it at a younger and younger and younger age. I come across many young men who just think it futile to try because the world is so female. It’s sad.

If you're surprised, then you clearly weren't paying attention to what was being posted back in 2020 and during the Pandemic. /r/teachers is one of the most Lefty/SJW subs on this entire Lefty/SJW website. It's bizarre because, in real life, I've met many teachers who are actually quite conservative, but still vote Democrat just out of economic self-interest.

It's a shame because it's become one of the largest teacher forums on the internet, but I don't post/comment there out of fear of getting flamed.

I was visiting my mom a while back and she was watching that game show with the black guy with the mighty mustache (can't remember names right now)...

Anyway, he was introducing a couple guests. One female, said she was a nurse. Every female in the audience hooted and hollered. Then a man, an elementary school teacher. Silence. The host said "That's great! We need more male role models in schools!". More silence. He actually got mad and said you cheer her on, but nothing for that gold? There was some half-hearted sympathy cheers, but not many.

That moment stuck with me. Women simply have no compassion for boys. It's just that simple. I mean.. how can you possibly blame a child for their lot in life?

I think a key takeaway here isn't so much that boys are being discriminated against. It's that boys don't as often have the traits that make "good" students. Overall it just seems like the good students are more cooperative, quieter, sit still, and fear consequences. I don't think these qualities have anything to do with intelligence.

Going through the responses on the thread, it seemed like most teacher's problem students are boys. Maybe we should take their word for it and see how the problem can be remedied. Either change the system or change the way students are being brought up.

The reward center of the brain, especially for boys, is inundated with feel-good feedback from video games. You will find this predominantly in boys. Some families I work with allow their kids to be on electronics 10+ hrs/day. It’s like an addict. These kids are then unable to work towards long term payoffs, preferring immediate rewards. I have a daughter in medical school and was shocked at how many of her classmates are not American. They grew up in homes with different family structures.
