I did something like this when I used to teach elementary. I didn't do an actual club, and I didn't give out jackets or ties. I had one tie they all had to share. But I taught them how to shake hands properly, how to tie a tie, how to do a few basic handy tasks, and how to talk about and handle negative emotions. (Puberty is a helluva drug.)

Like I said, what I did was very limited. But I think it's important for schools to have programs like this for boys. Where I taught in the inner city, I was often the first male authority figure they ever had. Most elementary teachers are woman, and way over half my students were raised by single mothers.

EDIT: Obviously I'm not hating on single moms. But a lot of those boys learned everything they know about "being a man" from TV and video games, and having positive male role models clearly made a difference.

Not all hero's wear a cape.👍 I don't know about the US but here in the UK we are now on to our 2nd generation of young men growing up without any strong male role model even in their extended family. That would be bad enough if there were plenty of male role models at junior School but there aren't. In one-third of all junior schools here the only male that boys see on a regular basis is the janitor. The first male role model of authority and respect they come across is often when they get to high School, by which time too many have been lost to gang culture.

This isn't really a good thing. All stuff like this does is further enable single mothers and the further breakdown of the family. Things like this is a further replacement of real fathers.

I know it sounds wrong to be against this, but what we need is programs that encourage mothers to actually stay with the father and actually have nuclear families.
