A little late to the party, but Mens Rights to me is about advocating for more encompassing coverage of troubles that plague men. I do NOT advocate for the reduction of wonens rights and or issues that play in part. The problem is that a lot of people don’t see it that way. Men and women inherently have different issues. Some biological, some societal, and some im embedded in our media and culture. The goal should be to elevate people not put them down. Lets take some of the areas where men are often over looked by the media and our peers.

Boys are more likely to not graduated highschool over girls.
Boys are more likely to be ignored in a class setting, because we mature slower than girls. (Maturation ends at 21-23 for most boys where girls start earlier and end earlier.
Men are more likely to kill themselves, meaning they have conviction.(They choose deadlier methods and tend to act upon their thoughts)
Men have shorter life expectancy than women, partially in part that they do far more dangerous and strenous jobs on average.

These are just some things that the mass media ignores in regards to men. Its no surprise that it doesn’t make mainstream media, because quite frankly it doesn’t fit the narrative.

Women on the other hand their fight tends to be towards representation in the work place or in college.

Women are more likely to go into professions that are more compassion focused and emotionally driven, leaving the women who are in STEM in fierce competition with their male counter parts.
Women tend to be the target of predatory marketing practices over men, due to biological needs and the ever encompassing coporate bullshit of production of women aimed things.
Women consistently seem to be in the center fold of prochoice vs pro life debate making them the enemy of some side of society.

But more importantly than gender specific things we deal with, there are things society has just forced upon us.

Toxic Masculinity and Toxic Femininity, this idea that choosing to be inherently either is damaging or wrong. Like wise to be the opposite of either finds you ostrisized by the same society for being “to soft” or “to aggressive”
Mutilation of childrens genitalia and the weird new enshirement of pedophilia as an accept form of sexuality (seriously? like this needs to go)
MGTOW and WGTOW let men and women choose to be free of emontional burdens of families and marriage. The nuclear family is dead and no one should be forced to feel otherwise.

But if you got to the end thanks. I feel we can learn a lot from each others struggles, but only when we accepts that both genders have some struggle. We can change that by being the bigger people as MRAs and choosing to acknowledge the struggle of women,but push back on the hurtful stereotypes that damage men.

The difference is women are allowed to be very vocal about bad things that happen to them but men are always shut down and harassed and ridiculed for ever speaking about things that happen to them. This is to such an extent that we take for granted that certain feminist talking must be true even when they are blatant lies, like women being the biggest victims in domestic violence and that there is a wage gap are two examples that come to mind.

Also if you pay attention the hatred men get from women as a group is completely unjustified and based on their experience with the worst men out there. For example if you go to any feminist subs on reddit the posts usually go something like this: someone finds some random atrocious thing that some lowlife man has said or some on the internet, posts a screenshot, and then everyone comes in with all their commentary about how shit men are when in fact the kind of people they are presenting there wouldn’t even be respected and tolerated by other good men. In contrast most of the things you’d see here would be examples of bigotry from influential and highly respected women and feminists whose views are tolerated by most of mainstream society and most women. This is very indicative of the dishonesty in leftist/feminist circles.

Oppression is a Marxist device to drive two factions apart. It's worked in a lot of places and hundreds of millions of those countries citizens have been killed by the government that supposedly supports 'the workers'. If you want to go down this path, then life does not matter to you.

And since there's both female and male bad people, then it would make sense if some women discriminate against men, while some men against women.

So then you're a feminist who thinks that men and women are equal (literally exactly the same).

There are a lot of differences socially. Men are taught not to hit a woman, ever, regardless of the circumstances. Women are taught they they can do pretty much anything they want and blame the man. The police will believe the woman even if she's totally uninjured and the man leaves for the hospital in an ambulance. The feminist written Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) and the feminist written Duluth Model require this.

In 1996 or so feminists wrote the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) which among other things denies male DV victims recognition as DV victims and denies any resources to male DV victims. But that was not enough, some female abusers were still being arrested and feminism could not support that, so in the next VAWA re-authorization feminism changed the previous Primary Aggressor model to the feminist written Duluth Model. What is the Duluth Model you might ask?

Duluth is predicated on the "patriarchal terrorism" paradigm of partner violence. That is, men beat their female partners in order to assert masculine dominance within their relationships. Their motives are to conform to patriarchal norms and to reify a the patriarchal social/political/cultural order of male dominance and female subordination within the home.
Under this faulty model, women cannot, as a conceptual matter, perpetrate partner abuse. If they hit their male partners, it was in self defense. If they hit first, or are the only partner who hits, they are doing it within the context of "violent resistance" against presumed emotional or psychological abuse on his part.

Because the VAWA also requires mandatory arrest policies, the VAWA + Duluth literally requires police to arrest male DV victims of females.

So insofar as you are painting the issues as equal, I respectfully disagree.

Sex is dichotomous in our species, creating a situation were having a bias against a sex creates a bias against the other. What you are defines what you are not and what you are not defines what you are. Unfortunately our cognition operates on bias so the only really measure is to be aware and attempt to make your bias to be more specific and less generalized. Treating people not according to the color of their skin, sex, geographical birth etc. but rather by the content of their character. The severity of negative and benevolent sexism is different depending on the culture and we are currently attempting to catch up with all the changes our tech/engineering capabilities have changed our environment.

I am always acutely aware that discrimination exists against women. When I was young I learned about it but it was just a kind of intellectual abstraction. But now I have skin in the game as they say. None of my contentions thst get voice in this forum detract from this basic understanding.

But years of denial /explaining away/ not being heard about very real, explicit violence against me personally and vocationally as a man, by individual women who should represent nothing but themselves but banked on the social contract and their impunity, have contributed to my PTSD as well as to real financial damages I have incurred, partly as a result of that violence, and partly as a result of having to build the machinery of my own defense, and often having no means to do so. Nowadays I am openly confrontational and articulate about double standards applied to benefit women and harass men and I have on a few occasions invoked the law.

I come from what is statistically an exceptionally nepotistic corner of the West, which also happens to be quite gynocentric in my particular work profession (i.e. men fulfilling equity quotas have lawyers on standby and have organized). After years of investing in the system, upholding the values in the law even as it was being gamed against others like myself, I no longer believe in the basic goodness of most people. When I tallied all that happened I had to sit down and make a decision what kind of a person I was going to become because it was clear that I was never going to see justice unless I created it myself I.e. a windfall for paying lawyers, or alternately vigilantism, etc.

I chose non-violence. I chose to see the undiagnosed mental illness in the cruelties of specific past detractors who happened to be women but thought that meant something to them. I am very happy now with how I cultivated a life of meaning, a fulfilling career, loving family and a chance to retire. But the list of specific unprosecuted criminals who happen to be women and need to be behind bars or pay penalties for their crimes is a mile long in my case.

Not until I got my hands on Spreading Misandry, Legalizing Misandry, and Replacing Misandry did I finally feel someone else saw what I was seeing. I wasn't invisible anymore.

After White Trash: The 400-Year Untold History of Class in America, I understood trends I'd witnessed between white feminists and those of color differently - internal fighting, ideological inconsistencies, fossils from colonialist thinking making their way into policy started to be seen in a different light. As a consequence of that, and similar readings, I see the real war in western society is not a gender or race war, but a class war. (Maybe it always has been?)

Having said that, widely known are the domestic terrorist groups populated by men targetting women. But outside of groups like this, practically invisible are the ones run by women targetting men. I'd like to change that.

This is why I advocate for 1) a federally funded men's rights organization (since the historical record shows (and some prominent feminist academics actively promote) that government funds earmarked for equality will not find their way to alleviating actual legitimate social grievances men have, if the job is to be left to existing pro-social equality NGOs - not even the UN Dept of Social and Economic Affairs "sees" men in their sustainability mandates; such mandates continually erase men from the western social profile, particularly in the lower classes, and will always remain unsustainable) and

2) a powerful litigation lobby. If you're not Johnny Depp, you're pushing a boulder uphill to get represented properly.

I think there is reason to believe that with the emergence of such an organization, vindictive loner wolf types with no resources will no longer be grown but may see an alternative to blowing up society, I.e. a place where they can be confident they will be heard and their actual injustices taken up.

We have to do this ourselves. But some government funded women's groups actively spend person-hours promoting denigration of the legitimacy of such men's claims. These organizations need to be outed, shamed and defunded.

But all of that takes infrastructure.

Equality of opportunity is what i advocate. It doesnt matter what race gender sex or sexual orientation you are. I dont care what culture your from or any of that. If your able to do the job and your the most qualified to do it. Then you should have said opportunity.

Men and women face different pressures, and those pressures need specific advocates against because a general approach doesn't always work.

It's ok to be a feminist and advocate for women, as long as you don't also claim to be advocating for men or try and shut down male advocates.

I think what really grinds a lot of men's gears is when feminists come in and try and shut something down that doesn't even make sense - intactivism, for example, is often shouted down despite a ban on male genital mutilation not negatively affecting women at all (and in fact potentially being quite postitive).
The problem is that there's a self-reinforcing circular narrative here. All forms of FGM are banned, while one form of MGM (circumcision) is still legal. There's no good reason for this to be the case, but the fact that i'ts legal leads many people to believe that there must be a reason for it to be legal, otherwise it would have been banned. There's also the narrative that FGM is this horrific crime against humanity (which it is), while circumcision is harmless (it's not) and so trying to change genital mutilation laws to include circumcision is equating something harmless with a horrible thing, rather than accepting that circumcision is also bad.
There's also the narrative that FGM and MGM aren't comparable, even though that's ridiculous because they absolutely are. What's not comparable is the most well-known form of FGM that involves cutting out the entire clitoris, but again, all forms of FGM are banned - pricking the clitoris with a pin as a symbolic ritual gesture carries the same punishment as cutting a girl's clit out and sewing her vulva shut. These are comparable to forms of MGM that include penile cutting, circumcision (did you know women can be circumcised too? The removal of the clitoral hood is literally directly comparable to circumcision of the penis. Guess which one is heavily punished and which is allowed), and castration.
But any attempt to talk about this is pre-emptively shut down as "you hate women why do you try and compare circumcision to actually harmful FGM you just want to legalise FGM you awful misogynist" which understandably makes intactivists a little bitter when feminists then turn around and tell everyone that they totally advocate for men too, what we need to do is just keep giving women whatever they ask for and that'll somehow help men not lose vital bits of their anatomy at birth no we don't know how it'll do that it just will ok.

Virtually no MRAs want to curtail womens' rights. Virtually no MRAs think that it's a zero-sum game. They want everyone to have as much freedom to live as they want as they can, they're just focused on men, and are happy for feminists to focus on women as long as they don't try and shut MRAs down.

I enjoyed your take on this topic OP, it's very level-headed. A couple of the comments on the post prove that sexism on an individual basis is often rooted in painful experiences. Even if we did reach a point where all laws everywhere were completely egalitarian, as long as there are women hurting men and men hurting women, there will always be new sexist people being made. We'll never eradicate sexism entirely, but I do hope we reach a point where it's not "state-sponsored" against either sex.

I'm a woman and I think this is spot on! I'd also like to add that sometimes sexism/gender rules detriment BOTH sides. I think parental rights is a really good example. Outdated and sexist ideas of motherhood being somehow more valid/sacred than fatherhood means that the burden of childcare is disproportionately on women and culturally expected of us, and ALSO that men don't get fair parental rights in divorce or fair paternity leave. Both sides are getting absolutely screwed and it's awful. This is obviously not true for everything, but I think it is a lot of the time -- another example is how women are dismissed as overly emotional and irrational, whereas men are ridiculed and shunned for expressing basic emotions. Two sides of the same shitty coin. The best way to benefit both men and women is to work together to dismantle this bullshit!

The wage gap is a great example, feminists claim women are paid less than men on average, which is true, but there are several reasons for this including men tend to work longer hours, retire at later ages, are more likely to ask for raises and negotiate a higher salary, not to mention working on the more dangerous jobs such as construction by a vast margin.

Rather than making up crimes based on thinking they ought to exist or not it seems simpler to have issues when issues arise. For example though you and many other people seem to love the idea that women face discrimination - nobody can name it. Discrimination against men is easy enough to see. Many examples on the sub. legal, institutional, societal, personal. I don't see the purpose in demanding discrimination against women exists as an abstract idea. it's like insisting there must be racism against both white and black people.

Well feminists hate men, and Nazis hate Jews. These are odd behaviors though. Where they become a problem is when the rest of society decides to back the hate movement's weird behavior - which is what we see with sexism against men.

When this happens, whether in 1930s Germany of modern America, it's because the ruling class have decided that they can benefit from using the hate movement to do something else they want to do (control the working class / divide the working class). In Germany in the 1930s the socialists were near to winning power so the ruling class backed Nazis to kill the Socialists. That didn't work out great for the ruling class but it really worked out badly for the working class. In modern America the ruling class backs feminism to do much the same. Without billions of dollars in funding and the manipulation of the corporate media and ruling class politicians the feminist hate movement would not be able to survive and thrive while propagating it's hate and it's discriminatory laws.

Problems stem from leadership (or anyone in a position of power) hence the hate towards one another as those in positions such as that take sides, the tube station I get off at has a poster saying MEN need to look in the mirror as often they don't know they are being abusive, bare in mind this poster went up around the time Amber heard was a proven abuser the same poster message was circulating for a shortwhile on the tubes during MEN'S mental health week. Kind of ironic that women think they are more balanced, when all we see these days are unhinged females (Karens) who won't get out of Ubers or act racist in public, or whatever. We've always known some men turn to evil. Good men want to kill those rat bastards. But we THOUGHT women were our allies. We changed a lot of tradition to try out this experiment, and some of us even tried female majority owned businesses (don't do it, it's a disaster. They fight each other). And now we are DEMANDING equal treatment before the law. Or Atlas WILL shrug.

Women don't want equality, not really. Women want what they want and when they want it. Modern women don't just any man, they want the fantasy ideal man that dwells in their head.

Women choose, men settle.

If a lot of women end up passing away alone, then they are achieving the equality that men have endured for years.
