As a good friend to a single Dad (Mom lost custody in court), it's amazing to see how US society reacts to him out in public. For one thing he and his kid attract a ton of young women. On the other hand I've seen people look puzzled and ask him sometimes where Mom is.

Oh come on. Single dads get lots of sympathy and attention too. We also get hit on a lot more often.

Men don’t want to date single moms. But lots of women find single dads very attractive and damn near irresistible. Yes it really is like all the rom coms that show the women going Gaga over the single dad.

Meh. It's a mixed bag.

Organization are typically worse than individuals, because organizations have directives that create boundaries and barriers against dads. It's not usually intentional, it's just ambivilence.

Sometimes organizations will give way when pressed, but some won't. When I was broke and trying to get therapy for my daughter, no one would help. The kind of help that mattered wasn't for dads with kids. Those same organizations had plenty of free suspicion to hand out, though.

The media is definitely in this trough. Sometimes they just didn't think about it, sometimes they have sexist directives. Flip a coin.

Individuals are generally better. Some people launch into drama, this is pure outrage entertainment. If they don't get a good reaction from the crowd, they shut down fast. These people are a small fraction, but you have to stay on your toes. If you don't immediately pull the oxygen out of their fire, they keep escalating. Dads that aren't expecting this sort of behavior are easy meat.

Some women (it's always women in this case) try to "take over". Do things without asking, assume I don't know how to care for my daughter, etc.. These people sometimes get offended when checked, but it's more shame and wounded ego. Generally easier to deal with.

You learn to be wary and keep going. When I really needed help, it wasn't to be had. Since then, I don't expect it.
