Shouldn't countries compensate men in some way for doing military service (especially as it may mean they will be more likely to be conscripted)?

In my country where male only conscription is practiced, the government's position is that it's a 'privilege' to serve, and that ~~slavery~~ service cannot be measured in dollars and cents (meaning conscripts get shitty stipends). Still, our government just announced yesterday to enhance benefits for NSFs and NSmen. Regarding your question, I believe that individuals who had completed full-time conscription or volunteered for service for an equivalent duration should be entitled to two votes/pax.

ideally yes. However, the countries that do have mandatory military service see it as a duty or obligation. It is old school misandry that sees men as tools rather than citizens.

Both males and females get Pell grants from the federal government for college but only males have to register with Selective Service in order to receive the grants. If that’s the case then males should receive more grant money because they’re being asked to put their lives on the line. If feminists decide that that’s unfair then they should advocate for a Selective Service that doesn’t discriminate on the basis of gender.

As has already been said: in countries where it is mandatory, they indoctrinate you to believe that it is a privilege to serve.

Here in Brazil there are two modalities: either you serve in a "Tiro de Guerra" which is a "backyard base", in which case it is 2 hours a day and you don't receive anything. The other modality is to serve in the base, where it is full time and you receive 1 minimum wage.

In 2017 I was forced to enlist, since in Brazil the year you turn 18 you are obliged to enlist and serve. The big problem here is that if you don't enlist, you can't get a passport, you can't go to university and you can't be hired.

And even after serving, you have a 5-year contract with the army.

Men did have extra benefits that came with being in the military. It was called voting. Main reason men got to vote and women didn't is because if the elected asshole picked a fight with a nation it was men that would have to fight it, so at least they could choose which asshole picked the fights.

Women decided it was unfair and sexist that they couldn't vote and it would be a valid argument had they also requested the same responsibilities that came with voting. Naturally they were given the right to vote because it is so damn easy to pander to most women and get their votes.

In uk military service is voluntary and compensated by way of getting paid.

Reserve army get paid and some tax free bonuses.

When conscription and national service was a thing the men were compensated again by getting paid.

November 11th is Remembrance Sunday, it’s to remember all who have died and served in all conflicts. This goes hand in hand with the poppy appeal which funds the royal British legion a charity that supports veterans in need.

There is also other charities like help for heroes that raises money for veterans.

In the US, our supreme Court ruled in favor of conscription during our civil war stating that our rights carried with them a reciprocal obligation to the state. In other words, our rights under the Constitution, were the payment we received for being part of the class of citizen required to defend the country, when necessary. This changed, however, when women were granted the right to vote without the reciprocal obligation to come to the country's defense in time of need.

In the USA I had to prove that I was registered for the draft 40 years ago in order to get a census taker job 2 years ago, so there's that female privilege. I wonder if it's the same for the postal service.

men who are conscripted( or even selective service) get automatic custody of their children( 100%) and their wives have to pay alimony/child support( enforced - no pay- no visits), unless their partner can demonstrate to a criminal level of evidence that the man would be an unfit parent....

The US has a day for veterans and a memorial day to remember the fallen, so the 'annual day to recognize their sacrifice' is covered. Their income is also not taxed when they're overseas in battle, so that's essentially a bonus into the bank account. The military also has pensions and can retire fairly early allowing for consistent income forever. There's also the college payments so going to the military can alleviate the debt most people have. The US has some decent benefits from serving. It probably won't make you rich, but you'll learn skills and have wages to live a comfortable life.

Personally, I didn't serve in the military because I'm lazy and fairly intelligent. I figured I could make more money if I was to work a more traditional route. I'm compensated fairly well as it is, so I believe I was correct. However, I also think that having a mandatory two years of military service is a great process. No kid really knows what they want to do coming out of high school so mandatory military service does a few things. It teaches skills, gives more time for maturity, allows for travel, builds a network and builds a better work ethic and discipline.

I personally think the tradeoff gained from two years of military experience would make any country better as it gives children some real world experience in problem solving and lets them know what they actually enjoy. If all you know is school then you have no idea what you actually want to do for the rest of your years and you could go through life as a soulless drone.

To an extent sure, but I think if they gave out too many bonuses to people who willingly join the military, then more people would drop out of school and college to join it, which is not really what you want in your country.

If it was treated how you suggest, it would be like gambling with your life for bonuses—not very ethical imo.

Though it is a fine line, because I would be more than happy for people already serving to be treated better, I just wouldn’t want to encourage the military as a career path.

My take on the arguments for draft that people bring up:

You shouldn't necessarily fight and can help in other ways like cooking and manufacturing stuff.
A: If it's that safe, why not force women to do it, too? There shouldn't be a problem if it's not fighting, right?
Someone has to look after children.
A: It's not medieval times, men can look after children, too. Moreover, women are likely to be targeted by people with malicious intent, which makes it even more reasonable to let men look after children instead.
Some women do take up arms, too.
A: That means women can fight as well, right? Ever more reason to make women stay since they are capable of fighting?
Men can't give birth.
A: It's not a world war and humanity isn't on the brink of extinction. Women in Ukraine are not the only women in the world. Ukrainian genes aren't getting lost either since men carry them as well.
Who will protect the country then?
A: Those who are motivated to protect it. That's the point of giving an option and not forcing.
Women didn't start this war.
A: Neither did men. Wars are initiated by specific individuals, not the entire gender. I don't remember there being a worldwide poll where men of Earth were asked and the majority voted for war.

As for patriotism and calling people cowards, people who want to flee obviously aren't patriotic enough. And screaming cowardice is a joke. Let people be cowards if they wish to. Some would rather be cowards but alive than heroes but dead. You gain nothing from posthumous awards.

Voting should be limited to military conscription. For example, if the country is at war or voting on something to do with war, people who aren't going to fight the battles really shouldn't have a say.

I would extend voting rights in these cases to women who have volunteered to be draft eligible.

And then lastly, but probably most importantly, non self sufficient individuals should not get to vote. Period. Dependants, even if they're technically are an adult, have proven they do not possess the qualities required to participate in Democracy.

I agree that if only one gender has to do service they should get benefits that no one else gets even though it is still discriminatory that only one gender has to do it.This is why we still need to continue to push for equality which is why i have made a petition to call on congress to either abolish the selective service system or to expand it to everyone by requiring everyone to register to have equality in the law.The current system is unconstitutional since it applies to one gender which violates the 14th amendment of the constitution and the equal protections clause and I would appreciate if anyone reading this can look into and sign the petition to have equality in the law.

Military personnel are entitled to various benefits already. There is no need to pay "men" anything additional because they "may" get conscripted.

In my country, as a commissioned officer, you are entitled to a house upon getting married, free education, healthcare, subsidised groceries etc. Basically, almost every need is taken care of. And this is Pakistan, we can't afford these things generally.
