The official mission statement of the KKK is to stop white genocide. I don't think we should kill all white people... but I also don't support the Klan. The official mission statement of Scientology includes promoting human rights. I want to promote human rights... but I also don't support Scientology. The official mission statement of feminism is to support equal rights and opportunities [apparently they don't even pretend to want equal responsibility] for men and women. I support equal rights and opportunities [and responsibilities] for men and women [and trans*]... but I don't support feminism.

The point is: There's a significant difference between what many groups claim to support and what they actually support. This is why so many people who actually support equality don't identify as feminists.

I get tired of hearing teen role-models like Kelly Clarkson and Katy Perry misuse and reject the term "feminist." It perpetuates the myth that feminists are a bunch of bra-burning man-haters, and that's just not true.

Feminists do a great job of perpetuating that themselves. Perhaps that's why Kelly Clarkson or Katy Perry criticize the movement? Always someone else's fault.

Reminds me when I was in elementary school. Teachers ask this question when the brain is still mush, just to get everyone on their side at a young age. Too bad it's a giant lie, mainstream feminism never focuses on men's issues. You'd think circumcision would be one of their top priorities given the supposed agenda highlighted in OP... Nope.

When people find out the truth about feminism, they immediately stop being feminists.

Feminists work hard to pretend they're about equality but sadly for them, people aren't that stupid. Saying feminism works for men is like saying white power is really for black people. There's enough of a clue in the name alone to convince most normal people to steer clear.

Scummy people like to hide behind terminology, so lets be specific. Supporting equal rights and responsibilities between men and women requires one to:

oppose affirmative action for women
demand fathers have an equal say in the abortion or adoption of his child
support default shared-parenting after a divorce
require college courses give equal weight to the MRA view point as the so-called feminist veiwpoint
demand criminal law parity in sentencing between the genders
require increased allocation of funding to men's health to equal that of women's health
admit that the gender wage gap is a lie
admit that false rape is common and demand similar punishment to false accusers as rapists would receive
admit that the west is not a patriarchy and that women hold as much power as men

If you believe in equality like this and call yourself a feminist then I support you. If you don't believe in most of these, then you likely do suck at being a person.

Has always bothered me, if it really is all about equal rights for women AND men then why not change the name? Feminist implies it's a movement for women's issues and that's exactly what it is, I'd rather have it called something that doesn't imply it's for one gender or the other if it's going to be championed as a movement for men and women's rights. And there are plenty of feminist who do not agree that feminism is for both men and women.

An I the only one around here who thinks the lady is right? Yes there are a couple radicals out there but the silent majority usually lobbies for equality, not domination. Not everything is black and white.
