Alpha people don't exist, but the closest definition I'd assign to it is "a cool guy".

So anyone who describes themself as "alpha" is automatically not cool.

I think it's a deliberately vague term based on the dominance hierarchies that are sometimes observed among certain animal species (and even then, the whole "alpha/beta" model is apparently outdated). Among humans, it's even more complicated and terms like "alpha" and "beta" are harder to nail down. I think they're only useful as a sort of heuristic, not absolutely pinpoint-accurate labels. We've all known people who were naturally domineering, confident, charismatic, not afraid to take charge, and then those who are shy, hesitant, quiet, unwilling. It's basically just the difference between "leaders" and "followers". Not exactly the most rigorous of scientific terms, rather just "good enough" to roughly explain the way we seem to naturally navigate many social situations.

In this framework, I guess I would define an "alpha male" as a guy who naturally commands respect as well as deference from other men. Ultimately an "alpha" person wouldn't have to be male, but it's more relevant for men in this conversation because this type of dominance appears to be significant in attracting women. "Dominant" women aren't necessarily more sexually attractive (a guy being "into dominant women" is seen as more of a kink and less as the natural order of things).

Basically a meaningless term that I try to avoid, but how I would define it is to use the analogy from animal group behavior.

So an "alpha male" is a man who has a disproportionately high number of sexual options compared to other men. I don't believe a man has to be taking advantage of this and be promiscuous to fit the definition. He could be married and monogamous or a virgin (usually in a very religious community). It's having the options that count.

Having these options will mean he is very good looking, high status, socially skillful, or some combination of the three.

Alpha traits are what makes a man sexually attractive to a woman. They could be looks, confidence, charisma, status, artistic ability, perhaps even intelligence for some women.

A man who has enough of these is “alpha” to the women who is attracted to him. A man who is attractive to enough women with his particular traits will generally be considered “alpha” by society.

These traits are contrasted to “beta” traits, which don’t promote sexual attraction but indicate provisioning ability, ostensibly for a woman and her future children (even if a given woman has no intention to have children). These would be traits like money, emotional support, and “niceness”.

TRP encourages men to become “alphas” because it gives them sexual power and the ability to not be used by women, whatever that man’s intentions are (whether they are to have casual sex with many women, or to enter a relationship with one woman who is sexually attracted to him).

OK, it goes back to an old (now repudiated) theory about how wolf packs worked, i.e. with an "Alpha" male and female who were the "leaders" that kept the rest of the pack in line.

Modern research has shown that packs are more like extended families, usually with a mated pair, some of their children (those who didn't leave for another pack) and their mates (from other packs), and that "leadership" roles vary and change by season and activity.

There's two kinds of alphas which is really nice but most of you guys are betas fr.

And women will tell you you're alpha or not, especially after sex. Men going around calling themselves that is a cope and also projection.

One ex, after not seeing her for months, started texting me again and I asked her why the sudden interest? She said "you know you're alpha" and I just laughed at her.

It's really nice to see women making these distinctions in their heads because they are the choosers. They definitely look at men and sort them out from James Bond types to the Billy Betas you men talk so much about.

Being alpha starts and ends with being disagreeable and the women who can't land these men have to settle for a softer man is all.

I think it’s a ridiculous to categorize men as alphas/betas/whatevers, so it’s all meaningless to me. Obviously, some people in life are going to be better-looking, richer, and more successful than others. That’s just a given.

The Alpha is the leader of men. The Beta is in the alphas inner circle. How society/red pill shit today defines “beta” would actually be a delta/gamma in the social hierarchy.

A type of personality who usually takes the lead in a group and others tend to follow naturally.
A person who has the prerequisites to lead in some group or area of life.
A leading social role that some people play more often than others.

Alpha is not automatically the most attractive personality type for all women and sometimes not even the most favorable psychological setting for life. It is a demanding, responsible role, especially if one wants to be a good leader. Gamma personality types may be more fun and easy going for casual sex. In some environments and for LTR, it's better to be a beta because the alphas fight too much to be on top. And a well-placed sigma might not be bad either.

It’s supposed to mean leader. Like a wolf pack or a group of gorillas will have an “alpha male” who guides the group.

I read that in nature, the alpha males actually exhibit kindness and care towards their pride. Making sure the older and sick ones get enough to eat, for example.

So, pretty much the opposite of being an asshole.

The term itself describes a leader of some sort. It originated from the belief that wolf packs have an alpha wolf that leads the pack.

Where this term has completely lost any real meaning is from the redpill sentiments of people being born alpha or beta. It honestly seems like a bunch of closeted men fetishizing the most masculine things about other men and stating these traits make them an alpha, therefore, all other men should be beta in comparison. If they think only these “special” men get to be alphas then they can feel less guilty about being a beta themselves. They’re just making excuses to be submissive to other men and not feel gay.

There are some more recent redpill ideas about men being able to become an alpha through behaving more masculine, but these sentiments are still based around the alpha/beta dom/sub dynamic and none of them seem to realize it. Are you becoming an alpha to impress women? Or are you becoming an alpha to feel as though you are in a dominant position over the betas?

Here take this red pill. It makes you hate women, and really “appreciate” big strong men.

Alpha is primary and top. Is the form of life that is closer to perfection and max reproductive success and/or to acomplish the first biological imperative: survival.

The term "Alpha" aplied to organisms is not only derived from wolves, it's pretty much spread all over natural sciences.

An Alpha predator, for example, is the top of the food chain, and the animal who doesn't have any other natural predators on his ecosystem.

An "Alpha" man means, then, a dude who's top notch in pretty much any meassurable way (or most of them) and is a natural leader and also a predator to other men (in a metaphorical sense, of course).

Alpha - a man who marries a woman and then has kids and perseveres through the inevitable ups-and-downs of marriage while still loving and being faithful to his wife for their natural lives. He shows his son what it means to be a provider (in more than just a financial sense) and a loving and husband father. If he has a daughter, He provides her with confidence to face the world and with a positive male archetype she will aspire to marry herself.

It’s not hard to be an “Alpha”. Just be a normal human being.
