The first time I remember being the poor helpless victim of false advertising with respect to the dating game was with an ex with breast and butt implants.

I felt deceived! I actually did ask if it wasn't just possible to work out and get the butt she wanted naturally. She said it was too much work for her. Probably right. I can imagine it may feel as difficult for her to do things the hard way as it would for the OP in the linked discussion to work his way into wealth honestly rather than fake it.

But I ended up thinking it wasn't a huge deal to me. I mean, the vast majority of men will pay attention to that. She certainly got my attention that way. I thought of it like... a bright yellow sign. I do value some non-superficial traits. I'm sure lots of men do, especially if they are looking for LTRs, but it's still the women holding bright yellow signs pointing at them who will get the initial attention. A variation of a common quote you hear in corporate or business: It's better to have the opportunity to apologize later, than not having that opportunity at all.

So I at least understand the logic behind it.

Yeah I saw this and my first thought was these guys think they are alpha but are cutting corners and only worried about getting laid instead of actually improving their life. If you have to lie about being rich or imply it to get laid then you need to go monk mode till you get your sorted out.

I'm generally not a fan of things that seem manipulative, but I can't bring myself to care that much if people want to artificially inflate their value a bit with stuff like that when it comes to one night stands, it's basically just a financial push-up bra.

If you lie your way through a relationship, then sure, it's dodgy and I'd condemn it, but if you just talk yourself up in conversations with a woman (or man) and you both know it's not going anywhere beyond a fun night, then it's no odds to me.

False advertising reminds me of a fairy tale figure who is often a bothersome old woman whose suffering is dismissed by the protagonist until she reveals herself to be a beautiful, powerful sorceress and then fucks with him (and/or everybody). Like the one at the start of Beauty and the Beast. I like that type of false advertising.

If I ever become fabulously wealthy like Bill Gates, rather than donate to a ton of charities through a foundation, I'm gonna take two weeks off, dress like a crazy homeless woman (complete with piss-stained clothes to round out my character), and offer a shitload of cash to the first person who is truly kind to me.

Why would anyone want to sleep with gold diggers and then wake up to someone who obviously feels cheated now that she realizes she's not in a penthouse overlooking the Thames? Does TRP think that won't feel bad? I think it's gonna feel bad. I mean, yeah, you had sex, and now there's this very unimpressed woman in your bed. That's gonna feel shitty. Yes, she's obviously trying to sleep her way toward a substantial amount of money, but taking advantage of her greed doesn't make one any less superficial.

I like the idea of putting my worst foot forward and seeing what happens.

He never explicitly lies, but I personally think there's no room for contention that he's at least being deceitful and manipulative.

I feel like I can ask a mature question about this so, for the sake of discussion, consider this.

Is it his responsibility to spell everything out because people are too stupid to ask?
Shouldn't people ask more pointed questions and gather evidence to support his claims and not assume things?

For the record, I don't create shell companies like this, and I told my gf everything about myself, good and bad. If "Boat Guy" doesn't have an official company for his boat, and if he treats his boat as a hobby for the IRS for too long, he can get into some serious fines with the IRS. I looked into hobby vs company with the IRS. You can deduct net losses for a hobby for only so long until you must make a net profit.

Share our thoughts on the various range of manipulation and what you find to be repulsive or acceptable (or even karmic -- as the OP and a few rpers said, "it's partially the women's fault for being gold diggers"). Share our thoughts on where this falls between AF and BB (I am not sure myself, but leaning BB). Does this dynamic change if we were talking about larger dollar amounts? Gender flipping the scenario. False or deceptive advertising in general.

Women and men both falsely advertise their wares, women moreso than men. Women doll themselves up with a shit ton of makeup because they're too inscure (and, realistically) too ugly to survive the SMP without so much makeup. They lie to men by inflating their looks.

Men, most of whom are kind-natured and not TRP men, don't intentionally deceive and manipulate women. But, men have every right to, considering how many women deceive men. False advertising isn't going away, and if women are doing it, men should too in order to level the playing field.

Personally I wouldn't use false advertising because dealing with someone who is disappointed feels bad and is a waste of time. As for other people using deception I think it is each persons responsibility to recognize it and avoid being a sucker. It took me a few weeks to realize what the 'myspace angle' was all about. Unless I'm planning to make children I don't mind that a girl is using makeup to look hot.

As for wealth (fake or real) it's an interesting topic. I think it has both AF and BB components. AF because a wealthy man is better than a non-wealthy woman (in that aspect) and thus dominant. On the other hand it's a BB quality and if he isn't dominant in other aspects of his personality she will quickly tag him as a sucker (or perhaps a rich creep who tries to use bucks to get laid). Seeming effortless is a big part of having an "honest" signal, the same with any other alpha quality.
