I believe it is completely unreasonable to expect your partner to maintain your personal standard of cleanliness if they receive nothing in return. For example, I am cleaner than my wife. It is unbelievably unfair for me to expect my wife to put it in more effort cleaning than she has ever done in her life because of my elevated standards, if I am not putting in more effort than I ever have for something SHE cares about, like taking her out on weekly dates or something else she wants/enjoys.

Too often in this sub and elsewhere I see people who view cleanliness as if their partner not meeting their expectations is fucking up, or that they deserve an award for doing the dishes, doing the laundry, folding the clothes more than their partner when they are simply pushing their higher standards onto someone who loves them for nothing and then blaming them for not stepping up.

Demanding someone rise to your standard for nothing makes you a toxic asshole. Adults work out deals so both parties can benefit. If you do something that makes me comfortable, I'll do something that makes you comfortable. If you don't understand this simple concept you don't deserve to be dating anyone at all.

Which side do you stand on?
