Another thing I noticed is that when women are struggling with dating, they are told that they deserve a good man. When men are struggling with dating, they are told they're not entitled to women.

These are all actual responses I gathered from threads asking the same thing, but when it was a woman OP asking it the answers tipped in her expectations "yes eye contact and smiling means he likes you" while the guy is always yelled at as some socially inept weirdo. Why is that?

Because there are ridiculously significant amounts of people on reddit who are misandric, and tend to immediately view dudes as "bad" or at least awkward/"creepy".

I think u picked some weak examples but I agree with your overall point

Men always have a negative connotation attached to their desires and perception of events when compared to women

A good example imo is hookup culture. Men are shamed for participating and trying to do things to get them higher chances of hookups(red pill)

But for women it’s shown as a act of empowerment and they deserve to use their “assets” to get what they want from any man willing to give it to them

All in all, there's a general lack of sympathy and good will towards men. Regardless of topic, the man is almost always seen as the active one on whose shoulders it is to act and make things right. Get flowers, backrubs, flirt, go on dates etc. It's always the man who is told to do things.

I think that men and women move through the world differently.

Men seem to more often be moving through their day with intent to make a connection with a women in that way either overtly, or if the opportunity presents its self.

Women on the other hand generally do not go out daily with any intent to make that kind of connection,

so it's more likely that she really is just doing her job/being nice and nothing more, while more likely that he is open to some escalation past "thanks have a good day"

It's different advice because men and women are different

You know, cashier's are people too. If you think you're misreading a flirt because of the job position, you can literally say that. "Are you flirting with me or is it just your job?". Being understanding of their position but also verifying your readings. Tact.

If this is not a question you feel comfortable asking them, you're in severe crushing/feelings mode or not comfortable with them in the first place. Both an indication you should wait until you are.

This is true BUT you’re forgetting men have a tendency to overestimate women they find attractive’s interest in them. I don’t care how often men say “oh golly me! I can never tell when a woman likes me! They have to be obvious and direct!!” It’s just not true and not shown in scientific studies. They were probably nervous about rejection.

What you are missing in your comparison is that the advice given is not dependent on gender but on assumed attractiveness. The men asking about the cashier are the types to have no other woman interested in them and this sign of smiling is the only form of positive facial expression they get from women. They are so desperate for any woman being nice to them, that they over and misinterpret this signal.

If we would assume the same about the woman asking about the smiling bartender, the advice would be similarly devastating.

If you want to have a discussion why we assume it's a revolting incel in the cashier situation but not in the bartender situation, let's do this.
