1)No that's not normal for anyone. Maybe you are confusing your new lack of shock at an event of that awfulness with it now being normal? As one ages, one is less shocked and less surprised at even quite rare events... that is the change that has happened in your personal normality.

2)Adolescents have always had a tendency to let their romantic interests and peer group friendships lead them astray and make them very upset and do stupid things. They have also always had a tendency to lead other adolescents into danger. But at least you're growing up (see answer to q1) so it is less likely to happen to you.

General comment... if you or any other man wants to drop out of trying to be with women then that's fine, you can do that and you don't even need a reason. You don't need to attempt to embark on the dubious task of convincing the world that one manslaughter in 2014 is evidence that the women be too scary. You can just stop dating. We're all fine with that. It is your personal business. Plenty of other things to do. Got that?

1: Nope. No, this is not "the norm for most women." Of course there are probably some women "out there who would do" what she did. And some men, too. But typical behavior? Please.

2: He was a young man with depression who had already attempted suicide in the past. :/ I have a friend who has attempted suicide more than once, and sank deeper into depression more than once, allegedly because of a girl (different girl each time; now unlike the woman in OP these did not send him messages urging him to kill himself). Is he a victim of cruel, sociopathic women? No, he's depressed and has a super unhealthy attachment style.

No, this is not typical behavior of womens when it comes to men. If you read the article they were both troubled and the young man had previous suicide attempts. What she did was wrong, very wrong and now she will pay the price. Cold comfort for his family.

They were teenagers so it doesn't follow that men are so easily influenced by women.

Why is it that so many men let women influence their choices in life? Reading about the case it is scary to read how much control this woman had over that young man.

Because they get hypnotised by the sex. Get a thirsty, needy, young man... and almost any girl can lead him around by the penis to her hearts content.

It's not hard to do. The only thing stopping more girls doing it is that there aren't that many female sociopaths.

No wonder this was down voted. Why do you believe it's the norm for most women? What evidence do you have to back up this absurd claim. And honestly, a few years ago, and now, I could totally believe that a woman, or anyone could have done this. When you don't just have an irrational hatred for a group of people, you expect them to do good or bad things, because you understand that people are different, and some can be fucked up. This isn't normal behaviour for anyone, but it's certainly not unheard of.

As for the second question, we are social creatures. Men and women influences each other's life choices all the time, it just depends on the person.

1) Is Ted Bundy typical of men's behaviour towards women? What about Cosby? I mean, come on son.

2) People can feel very dependent on other people for a variety of reasons. Low self-esteem, prior victimhood of abuse, loneliness, etc. This goes for both men and women. Plenty of women have abusive partners that control and influence their life greatly.

In short, don't let this one case serve as proof for whatever weird beliefs you have about women and their relationship with men.

1) Sociopathic behavior is not normal for anyone. That's why we have a personality disorder for it on the DSM-5.

2) Why does any low self-esteem person allow anyone to have so much influence over their life? Because that's what low self-esteem does. It tells you that your opinions, your choices, your thoughts don't matter. So you seek out someone who does matter. However, that makes you clingy, so most normal people want nothing to do with you. It's only the true sickos who know they can manipulate you easily.

women let men do this too. even in other or lesser situations kids let their parents control, parents let their kids control. it happens all the time, even in situations that seem more normal. people let those close to them influence them to varying degrees. in this case, she was close to him, he was depressed, they were young. i think all that factors in.

i've read some concerns about the sentencing that are understandable (like that she was a minor at the time) but in any case, i'm glad there were consequences for her. it was a pretty awful situation/act.

Normal? Holy fucknuts, Batman! No, this is most assuredly not normal or typical. This woman is a monster, and deserves to be put down like a rabid dog. If this behavior becomes normal, I'll consider it one of the signs of the oncoming Zombie Apocalypse.
Unfortunately, this guy was used by a manipulative bitch who understood that he was already depressed and suicidal. A man in a healthy, regular state of mind would not have done this. I do think that many men allow their choices to be influenced by women, and this may be a good thing or bad thing based on the individual female.

If you're in college with a female friend who is good with money and you allow her to help you make a budget that'll ensure you pay off your loans 5 years before you would've otherwise...then it's a good idea to let her influence your decision.

If you are in college with a female friend who keeps suggesting you go out to bars every weekend and has you pay for her drinks/drive her home/generally uses you as a chauffeur...then it's a bad idea to let her influence your decisions.

I think it highlights that, yes, women can have power over men - it's just not a form of power anyone's really comfortable discussing - and it can be abused.

The shocker here isn't really that a woman emotionally manipulated a man to do something - although there will be some official fainting and fanning of faces around that, just to save face - but really that a law court's actually called her out on it.

Of course it's not normal behaviour - for anyone! I can't believe you'd think that...Then you contradict yourself by asking if there are any other cases out there - well, if it was normal behavior for women in regards to men, there'd be a lot of cases, right? There aren't. It just doesn't happen often (thank goodness). What makes you think it's 'normal' for women to encourage suicide, be psychopathic and so cruel?
This case is extraordinarily sad and I'm glad she is being punished - I hope her sentence isn't light. Such despicable and cruel behavior. She basically killed the poor guy to earn pity from others for losing her boyfriend - all without getting her hands dirty - it's so heartbreaking for him and his family. Unfortunately, I think this guy was simply very depressed and needed professional help - and having a girl like this in his life was the last thing he needed. It's not typical for men to allow this kind of control from his girlfriends, just as it's not typical for women to be so uncaring and cruel to their boyfriend. It's just a terrible case all round, but not one you can draw wider conclusions from about male-female relations, imo.
