Purge sucks because people don’t take advantage of it to have the best, most intelligent and unfiltered debates occasionally sprinkled with legendary ad-hominem fatalities. Instead it becomes a license to to make silly nonsense. Anarchy is a mirror image of everything everyone expects it to be.

Mostly, the purges just seem like a time when users here troll each other.

It’s really kind of dumb, and just encourages the assholes here to be even more assholic than usual.

What’s the purpose? To let people vent their frustration with each other? How is that supposed to reduce tensions and hostilities here? I’d be willing to wager they just increase them over time.

Also, it’s not always entirely clear when people are being serious or not; some of the views expressed during Purge periods seem like the speaker could totally hold them, and yet they’re often really vile things.

Don’t get me wrong, Purge periods are fun for a certain type of user, but other than having a big insult fest, I don’t really see how they improve the community at all.
