A common insult when anyone mentions their dating preferences is hypocrisy.

  • "You're not X so you can't want X in a partner. Hypocrite"
  • "You did Y so you can't ask for someone who didn't do Y. Hypocrite."

It's true those are hypocritical. It's also completely fine. It's not an insult.

  • An ugly man wanting a beautiful woman is hypocritical
  • A career woman wanting a man who makes more money than her is hypocritical

The only thing that matters is whether that persona acknowledges their choices are going to be more limited as a result of their hypocrisy. The ugly guy will have fewer options (beautiful women who don't mind ugly men) and the career women will also (high-earning men who want career wives). If they aren't willing to do what it takes to find the partner they want they can settle or be alone.

There is nothing wrong with being hypocritical, and most people do it to some degree.
