Even if men would in theory, in reality they don't hit on women very often and they generally already know them and have built a connection, or else it's the same very small group of women. A couple of things here; women do absolutely compete with each other, and some are beyong vindictive. There are a whole subset of women who go to great lengths to try to get married men to cheat on their wives, just to say they could.
Some women (usually the strong willed, type A personalities who refuse to compromise on their values) are very lonely in the friendship realm. True two sided friendship is not as easy to find as one may think.

Turns out technically yes, by the common law rule. I truly feel for her because I don't know what kind of trauma she must have went through to feel she deserved someone like him. As soon as I found out about her, I went and talked to her in person.... I felt AWFUL, but I didn't know. Sadly she said this wasn't the first affair, and they were always on the 18-20 age range. He made the daughter comment in front of her and she still forgave him.

A couple of years ago, I had OP's opinion. And once I was discussing it with my female friend about how dating life was difficult to average and below average looking men when compared to their female counterparts of same league. She was not a conventionally attractive woman and she told me how dating like of below average looking women are basically non existant. They are basically invisible to most men. They don't hesitate to get together with average and below average looking men (who, in many cases, hates how good looking women for being too conscious about looks of guys and make speeches about "emotional intimacy over sexual attraction" and all) but these men don't even look at them. It was then I became aware about my bias!
