Another member and I were having a conversation yesterday and he brought up this claim;

"Sorry, but I don't buy for one second that you haven't used a man for money. We're all aware of the mental gymnastics women do to justify bad behavior...Just because you rationalize getting money from him with something like "It was a gift because he likes me" doesn't change what happened."

Now, I never have used a man (or woman) for money, but obviously there are women who do basically view men as ATMs rather then fellow human beings. What I want to know is simply whether you have ever used a man for money.

If no, why not (opportunity never came up, you think it's immoral, you never needed to, you make more money than your partner, etc)?

If yes, why (you were desperate to afford living necessities, you don't think it's immoral, you like it when men spend money on you, you only date wealthy men, etc)?

And since the guy I was talking to specifically mentioned "receiving gifts because he likes you", do you think getting a present from a man you're in a relationship with could be considered using him for money? The only way I can think of it as such is if he's constantly buying you things, and you rarely or never reciprocate in kind (sugar daddy).

Otherwise, I think it's fairly common to give small gifts to each other, and so long as there isn't a big price discrepancy (he gave you a ruby necklace, you gave him a $50 gift card) this is just normal behavior to let your SO know you're thinking about them. Ex: last week my FWB brought me back some salt water taffy from his trip to the coast, and yesterday I gave him a box of maple candies from my trip to Vermont, but neither cost more than $10.

Bonus question: What percentage of women do you think use men for money vs keep financial balance in their relationship?
