What Defines Privilege?

Privilege is a granted advantage to a person or group. It gets tricky when you start talking about groups because nobody lives in an average. My dirt-poor distant relatives in Eastern Kentucky wish they could cash in on some "white privilege." They're doing far worse than the hundreds of Blacks, Asians, and Hispanics in my upper-middle class Florida neighborhood. Women might get paid less "on average" but this is twisted into meaning a man and woman doing the same job at the same firm working the same hours will see a ~30% gap in their paychecks. That's as illegal as it is false. So 'privilege' is a word I stay away from unless speaking about individuals. Meaning the answer to your TL;DR is "it depends."

Privilege in the current “social justice” lexicon tends to describe normal shit white/middle class people can and should have in the western world. Except rather than using language that evokes sympathy ie “black disadvantage “ they use deliberately infantilising, patronizing language designed to personally attack people under the guise of “social justice.”

“Privilege” would make sense if white people were like 10% of the population and blacks etc were 90%. Instead it’s the opposite and this small group is left out in certain ways.

The main point of “privilege” accusations is to publicly shit on people and shut down arguments via personal attack/poisoning the well. SJWs do this to satiate their intense desire for power and control over others, rather than their stated reason of helping minorities or whatever.

The technical definition of Privilege is an unearned advantage in some capacity.

But what capacity?

We all have advantages and disadvantages, so that leaves the word open to be used in any capacity a person wants. Are men privileged because they make up the vast majority of generals in the armed forces or are women privileged because they historically have never been conscripted into the armed forces?

Men get paid more, but over and over it has been shown that's because they work longer hours and take riskier jobs. Are men therefore privileged because they take those jobs or are women privileged because no woman is ever a garbage collector?

And if a woman was ever in dire straights, is the ability to go into prostitution a privilege because she's valued for her sex appeal while men aren't, or is the man buying her privileged because he's the one with the money?

Definition aside, I don't see how Privilege is useful as a concept, because it can cut both ways, or it can cut any way with enough intellectual gymnastics.
