I'm 25M and I have been taking steps in the right direction and have been focused on self improvement. I'm a person that makes decisions based on first principles and this is one of those questions that has been hard for me to answer and I'm curious if anyone on this sub has thought about this and has a way to reframe it.

After learning about the different mating strategies among the genders you come to the conclusion that the surplus of resources and the invention of modern society has been the result of men trying to compete for women. When I ask myself why I try to improve myself it always seems to be to attract women despite not really being interested in dating at the moment. Am I masculine because I am competent, reliable, strong, and improving or am I all those things because I'm a man wired to do those things? I think women deal with a simar dynamic, for example there are some women who claim to look good/dress nice for themselves but if you ask the hard questions is it really just female nature trying to be hypergamous? Are these character traits so deep and that engrained?

Alot of people in the manosphere say that you should want to improve for the sake of improving and not for women. I want to embody this but I'm not even sure if that's possible. I'm curious if anyone here has another point of view, thanks.
