I was curious as well so I went digging. As far as I can tell, this is from an essay analyzing how the US army should change their attitude towards women as frontline soldiers.

The relevant part seems to be this

Although the contributions to the defense of their nation are undeniable, there is also evidence that Israeli women experienced significant difficulties in integrating into predominately male units. Records indicate that mixed direct combat units had consistently higher casualty rates. ý1 Also.as the fighting progressed in 1'947. Hagana Ih commanders -topped allowing women to serve in assault forces because "... physically girls could not run as well -and if they couldn't run fast enough, they could endanger the whole unit, so they were put in other units."' Generally, because of their comparative lack of physical strength, commanders employed women in defensive operations whenever possible."Analyzing this evidence in terms of the Combat Cohesion Model indicates that the Israeli women soldiers' inability to meet the physical demands of direct combat would (as with the Russian women) reduce primary group bonding by preventing interdependence and mutual support.The results were that the Israeli mixed direct combat units experienced increased moral destruction ( commanders believed the women endangered their units) and physical destruction reflected by the higher casualty rates.The Combat Cohesion Model depicts that the mixed units would tend to disintegrate quicker because reduced cohesion accelerates destruction. The22 reassignment of women to strictly defensive units supports this assessment.As in the Soviet Army, the Israeli experiences of assigning women to direct combat assignments shows that women performed well when assigned specific individual tasks or when assigned defensive missions. However, lack of physical strength again appears to have reduced unit cohesion which resulted in higher causalities. The increased casualty rates reflect a faster rate of destruction. A faster rate of destruction would result in mixed direct combat units reaching the point of disintegration quicker. Consequently,units that are predisposed to higher rates of destruction are less combat effective.

I've yet to see 1. Bear in mind not everyone is you and therefore I haven't seen a lot of the same stuff you have. And i say i have yet to see 1 as i don't count u/Jazeboy69's story as evidence.

Many male military servicemen screw up too but it would be ridiculous to use Bowe Bergdahl to describe every man in the U.S military just as it is to use one unnamed woman.

Now the big question, Exactly how many:

I'd find it hard to put a number on it but in statistics usually data is considered significant when it is beyond +-2 standard deviations from the mean. So if the percentage of women dishonourably discharged is beyond the mean percentage of men dishonourably discharged (Which according to wikipedia around 0.37% or 637 people.) +2 stardard deviations then i'd say yeah, perhaps women shouldn't be in the military.

Although the aforementioned stat may include women. But if i had to use the (faulty) statistics i have at hand i'd say (with 14% of women in active duty) i'd say around 89.18 examples. But cba to work out how much that would be + 2 standard deviations.

Edit: though if i had to guess it would be around 100 examples.

agreed but i am using it as a measure to see if putting women on the frontline puts everyone in danger, because i was trying to find an exact number of examples i'd need to prove that claim, but even then i agree the method and criteria arent perfect but i'd say it's at least 70% effective (i have no mathmatical backing for the 70% claim)

Take a look at the table of the minimum fitness standards for the Canadian Forces (last modified July 2018). Men under 34 must make it to Stage 6 of the shuttle run in order to pass, women under 34 only need Stage 4 to pass (women over 34 only need Stage 3). Men under 34 must perform 39 steps in the Alternative Step Test to pass, women under 34 only need 32. Men under 34 must have 75 lbs of combined hand grip strength in order to succeed, women under 34 only need 50 lbs. Men under 34 must perform at least 19 pushups, women of the same age only need 9. Same goes for sit ups except women under 34 must perform 15 instead of the men's 19. If you scroll down to Table B they become even more gapped between men and women. It's the same way in the US military, British military, and basically any other military of a developed nation. Then we toss these women into the same combat roles as men and expect them to perform in the same capacity, which if you ask me is unfair for every sex involved.

It's not only unfair it's also life threatening and hurts morale. Why should we accept less physically capable individuals into combat roles when combat is a physical activity? How can you expect unit cohesion when all the men have to worry in the back of their heads if the women are capable of saving their asses if they take a bullet. Dragging 180 pounds of dead weight, plus 100+ pounds of gear and equipment to safety isn't a walk in the park for anyone, how is a 5'5" 120 lb woman supposed to do it? Hell there's videos out there of units training where the women are at the back barely keeping up while the men carry their own equipment AND the women's.

Not to mention the comeraderie aspect. It sounds wierd but male soldiers are going to train together, eat together, sleep together, piss together, fight together, etc. Are women going to be allowed, let alone feel comfortable doing half of those things?

I'm sorry but no, I don't want less physically capable people in the military, male or female, it will literally get people of both genders killed when it could have been prevented by not lowering the standards.

Israel's military is fierce, and wildly competent. It won six wars, usually against the combined forces of the Arabic countries that surround it, before the US started giving it miliary aid.

SINCE the US started giving it serious aid, it has not faced those kinds of existential wars. Yay, less war and death! Instead, it has faced conflicts with non-nation states, who can't possibly win, but are funded and given money and munition by nation states because go kill the joos.

Because nobody will go to direct war with Israel. The Arabic countries have regularly met and decided not to go into direct battle with this paper tiger, because they knew would be wildly defeated.

You might want to take a look at the incredible, crucial job American women played in WW2 with regard to making everything and basically operating the country before being quite so cynical.

The last world war, rather than being proof of how useless women are, was actually what birthed first-wave feminism; in the absence of a male majority insisting women weren’t fit for the workplace and demanding women stay at home, a significant fraction of the female population went to work, preferred it, and upon the return of peace time refused to return to their kitchens as, effectively, slaves.

I know you don’t want to hear it, but women step effortlessly into almost any space male prejudices don’t prohibit (or significantly impede) them from entering, and the history of the last century absolutely demonstrates this.

I really encourage you to read this, but tl:dr men and women are scientifically proven to be designed by nature to fill different roles. With the rare anomaly.

Can you explain why the bottom half of mens armed forces perform roughly as well as the top half of women’s.

Women get injured more often, often need training exercises watered down for them to meet the minimum physical standards, and have a plethora of other issues in COMBAT roles. Women have plenty of roles in the military, but I believe high stress intense military forces (such as the marines) should not have to water down training to accommodate for a LARGE majority of women.

It isn’t some uncommon fact that in the human race men are scientifically, and more specifically, genetically designed to be the apex in terms of physical strength and agility. There are obviously anomalies, but for the most part it is a proven fact men are on average taller, stronger, and faster.

Men and women are equal in value but definitely not in mental and physical design and purpose. For instance I get home and struggle to cook any meal other then pancakes / grilled cheese. I’m 29. There are so many things my wife does for me that I couldn’t live without. I could kick her fucking ass though. That’s not to sound like a dick, you know what that kind of sounds really bad.

Yet. She could probably divorce me and claim 75% of my assets and she does my taxes because it makes my head hurt. She bosses me around and keeps me eating and exercising healthy because I don’t think about that, but I fix the toilet and cabinets when it breaks. I climb the ladder to take the dead squirrel out the gutter. And finally I’ll obviously hurt anyone who intends to harm her. I’ll tell the douchebag slapping her ass and harassing her to fuck off.

I’m not saying these roles aren’t interchangeable, but it sure as shit is common that your average man will do the above for his other half.

That leads me to this. Men and women are two halves of a whole. You can see it in what careers women and men tend to chose. We have different traits, but we come together to form a community.

It’s seen in nature, one sex is a hunter gatherer, the other is a caretaker.

Women are often incredible caretakers, they are smart and I swear to god after I had my little girl I became convinced my wife has mom senses. She does so much for me I couldn’t do, and I do so much for her she couldn’t do.

Call me a misogynist, I just think that generally men and women are designed to do different things.

I served 1967-1977 (the fall of Saigon wasn't until 1975). I volunteered for Viet Nam but didn't have the medical experience (rank) and they wouldn't take me. Agreed, some women were cream puffs, but I served with women who were physically and mentally committed to fight and weren't allowed to. I'd rather them have my back in place of a lot of men. We went into the medical field because that was as close as we could get to combat at the time.

More fields are opening up to women as old stereotypes fall ... quite a few countries demand military service in some manner.

The run time of two minutes is because of a generic shorter stride of most women as opposed to most men ... it's clocked on strides to distance ratio.

For reference, when I went from a sedentary lifestyle to running, it took me 2 weeks to run a 16 minute 1.5 mile. It took me 3 months to train to a point where I could run a 13:30 1.5 mile.

Bottom line, when I picked up my end of a litter with a 300 lb man on it and carried him down steps and loaded him into an ambulance my male colleague wasn't concerned.
