It’s not only other women who care, it’s also her that cares by giving a shit about what other people think. Our society is too invested in the opinions of others. Stop giving a shit and watch how much happier you are.

The thing about feminist theory (or at least as portrayed by Simone de Beauvoir in the Second Sex) in situations such as these is that they're all based on the premise that the "world" is existentially created by men for men (and the definition for "man" then becomes the one that gets to decide what our perception of the world should be). Men have an interest in subjugating women because they want to stay in power.
When women feel the need to be clothed a certain way (or anything else they might feel pressured to do, even if it's an "internal" pressure, like becoming a mother), even if they're forced to do this by other women, it's because they're all victims of the patriarchal system inherent in our society, because now everything bad in society can be attributed to men.
Of course, that totally ignores that men also have to confine themselves to social norms. Does that mean men are victims of the patriarchy that is ruled by themselves? And if men are being subjugated, how can they simultaneously be in control?
Certainly, I, as an individual, don't really have a say in global fashion, despite being male. Ergo, it appears I'm a "woman" and I'm oppressed by the patriarchy despite being a CIS heteronormative white penis-endowed male. And I'm pretty sure this applies to almost every other male too.
*Disclaimer: Slightly simplified The Second Sex because it's a long-ass rambling book that's 90% Sartre and 10% gender-politics.

feminism is inverse Catholicism.
Catholics believe an all pervasive invisible power far larger than yourself creates all the good in your world for you because it loves you while all the bad is due to your hubris as a flawed human and only through becoming closer to this power and controlling your nature can you find happiness.
Feminists believe an all pervasive invisible power far larger than yourself creates all the bad in your life because it wants to oppress you while all the good in your life comes from your heroic victories as a brave queen fighting against all odds and therefore you are always entitled to more good and anything given to you is neither sufficient or timely enough compared to what you deserve.
It’s the difference between thanking the universe for your joy and striving to be better, and blaming the universe for your problems and declaring yourself already perfect and entitled to everything.

There's no reason to think that Jesus was any more real than Gilgamesh.

Tacitus is more or less a contemporary of Christ and mentions Jesus. He's generally considered a credible source on most matters, this included. IIRC, Josephus also mentions Jesus.
[–]PoopPraetor 3 points4 points5 points 6 years ago* (3 children) | Copy Link
Tacitus wrote it more than a hundred years after Jesus supposedly died, and he only documented what Christians were and what they believed. There are no contemporary sources for Jesus
Josephus Did the same more than 90 years after the death, and even the authenticity of that passage is disputed.
we know that Pontius Pilate was alive, but the total lack of documentation of Jesus execution is strike against the story. Pontius was only included in the story because he was known as the person in charge at the time.
[–]Tripticket 2 points3 points4 points 6 years ago* (2 children) | Copy Link
Tacitus died less than a hundred years after Christ's death, so it would be quite a feat if he managed to write the passage over a hundred years after Jesus' death. These sources are also close enough to Jesus' lifetime that people who read the texts would have been alive and aware of the unrest in Judaea. Thus, the historians couldn't just make this shit up without secondary sources mentioning it. This is taught in any introductory level history class at university.
At least one passage of his also directly mentions Jesus (as well as the execution that you claim is not mentioned):
Christus, from whom the name had its origin, suffered the extreme penalty during the reign of Tiberius at the hands of one of our procurators, Pontius Pilatus, and a most mischievous superstition, thus checked for the moment, again broke out not only in Judaea, the first source of the evil, but even in Rome, where all things hideous and shameful from every part of the world find their centre and become popular.
Edit: Maybe you're confused by the Gregorian Calendar. The year 0 is supposed to be within a few years of the birth of Jesus. Jesus would have died several decades later, making him a contemporary of Josephus. Jesus did not die in the year 0. Tiberius wasn't even emperor until the year 14 and Pontius Pilatus took office in the year 26, meaning Jesus could not possibly be executed by him before that year at the very earliest.
[–]PoopPraetor -1 points0 points1 point 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
I was mistaken about the calendar. However, Pilate didn't document it, and it doesn't change the fact that tacitus writing about the beliefs of Christians has no more bearing on the historicity of Jesus than a paper on Scientology has on the existence of Xenu.
[–]JackHadders 9 points10 points11 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
If you think Jesus didn’t exist as a historical figure, then you’re eliminating an absolute ton of ancient history that has a far longer gap between happening and being recorded than Jesus, including like most of Roman history
[–]PoopPraetor 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
No I'm not. Tacitus is the closest, and all he wrote was about the existence of Christians and what they believed

As someone who isn't bought in totally to feminism but believes its largely correct, that's exactly what they mean. Most feminist I've known also felt that patriarchal society negatively effects men as well by forcing them into toxic roles (e.g. not showing emotions, fighting, etc..)
The patriarchy is not a conscious force, its more a system we all participate in through cultural norms and traditions. One shining example of the patriarchy hurting men is in the criminal justice system, where efforts for women are orientated towards reform and light time in the prison, but for men its about punishment and control
I encourage you to research this more. Feminism has its quirks and extremist but mainstream feminism is very rational
[–]Tripticket 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (35 children) | Copy Link
I'm just about to finish my degree in philosophy and did some courses on the matter. Of course, I'm no expert on anything, but I have some experience with the source material. I remain (tentatively) convinced that de Beauvoir is the only major philosopher I've ever read that genuinely didn't contribute much philosophically (whereas my default stance if I disagree with a philosopher is that I simply don't understand what they mean). Of course, that depends on what one thinks of as a contribution, since she certainly had significant societal impact.
Either way, the common characterization of a Marxian or Nietzschean "class war" between men and women seems to be a misunderstanding of the philosophical position. But then the bottom seems to fall out of her argument since The Second Sex is IIRC specifically about biological men oppressing biological women, but the "man" that she refers to as the person who gets to decide everyone's perception simply doesn't exist (i.e. everyone is an eternal "other"). Existentialism is largely about the individual, which is what she seems to focus on, and every single individual is a victim of the patriarchal system she has conjured up, so blaming biological men for ills in society (such as racism or war, which she mentions) does not seem to follow.
[–]cmh89jb1 points 6 years ago* [recovered] (34 children) | Copy Link
I've never read The Second Sex, but judging from its publish date, I'm going to assume that the main issue is that it was written in a different time.
French women only got the right to vote in 1945. American women only got the right to vote a little before that. In a legal and political system controlled solely by men, women faced discrimination in property rights, workplace rights and voting rights. I don't blame any women in 1945 for blaming men as a group for subjugating women because that's exactly what was going on.
Things are of course better for women, thanks in large part to feminism, but we are in a transitioning period where women are able to get good jobs and lead organizations, while men are more able to show emotion and be less aggressive. But we still have a legacy of strict gender roles that prioritize men over women.
[–]DragonDraggin 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (24 children) | Copy Link
Those "oppressed" women also weren't expected to work, couldn't be held accountable for debts, weren't required to go to war, and in some cases not held responsible for crimes ( their husbands could go to jail for them).
Simply put, this "patriarchy" nonsense is a myth. Money makes the world go round. Men have historically worked, and earned more of it.
[–]cmh89jb1 points 6 years ago* [recovered] (23 children) | Copy Link
I mean all the examples you just gave are examples of the patriarchy. If you didn't have a 4chan level of understanding of feminism and instead actually did some reading, you'd understand that all the examples you gave are just by products of treating women as incapable, weak and not a full person.
And women were expected to work, they just didn't get paid for their work, which is not a good position to be in. Many a women has had to stay in an abusive home because she didn't have money to leave. Or been left after 40 years of marriage penny-less

Yikes. Ok, I'll bite. It can be more successfully argued that western society is indeed genocentric, but a matriarchy. While raising children and doing chores around the house and farm is indeed work, statistically an industrial job that brought many families to the cities was dangerous and life threatening. Even today, men make up over 90% of work related deaths. Women have finally won their right to go to combat, and their response? There really aren't that many women signing up for combat. The justice system is overwhelmingly biased against men. On average, a women will get 60% less prison time for the same crime. Family and divorce court......I don't need a website to see a bias in favor a "weaker" gender. I've seen men brutally beaten by "white knights" for defending themselves from "poor girls".
Your notion of gender pay gap is completely false. Google "Harvard Bus tour pay gap study". There is an earnings gap, because men work more hours and take more dangerous shifts.

Okay? How does this support the idea that society is matriarchy? Do you know what the terms matriarchy and patriarchy mean?

Dude look, you don't need to regurgitate /r/mensrights talking points to me. I posted there probably long before you, I posted there until it became too much of a toxic shithole. You clearly don't understand the arguments behind feminism. Men getting harsher punishments or doing more dangerous jobs are a result of the patriarchy. Women get lighter punishments because they are seen as weaker and less accountable.
Have you never heard the term toxic masculinity? Feminism recognizes that the construct of masculinity hurts men in some ways, just like the patriarchy helps women in some ways. The idea is that the patriarchy is overwhelmingly a hurtful thing for both women and men.
I didn't bring up a pay gap. If you are going to word vomit talking points, could you at least vomit relevant ones.
You should go talk to some of the womens studies professors you've been trained to hate. If you go in with an open mind, you'll have it blown by actual conversation.

Perhaps you should follow your own advice and get more acquainted with feminist theory. The general method of argumentation in her work is quite clear and in general simpler to understand as well as more straightforward than Sartre (although I recommend a basic understanding of Being and Nothingness before delving into de Beauvoir because she lifts so much from Sartre).
The issue is not voting rights for women or even abolishment of gender roles (which honestly is quite a controversial philosophical position), because those would be platitudes that aren't very problematic in and of themselves, or are at least relatively easy to defend with modern base assumptions of the world.
The issue is that her conclusions do not seem to follow from her arguments no matter how generously you are willing to interpret them. Many of the premises themselves are also questionable and much of the material seems to derive from "well, this is totally just a cultural construct so I can discredit the phenomenon", which is even worse of a cop-out than Descartes ontological proof for God's existence.
[–]cmh89jb1 points 6 years ago* [recovered] (7 children) | Copy Link
Perhaps you should get acquainted with theory that wasn't written 70 years ago. Lots of modern authors to choose from. You seem more interested in debating the thing you think you know rather than the actual topic.
[–]Tripticket 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link
De Beauvoir is still relevant for feminism and the basis for a lot of "modern" theory. Most philosophy doesn't really have an expiration date (unless it actually is philosophically useless, but that would make any work with the same basis have a similarly low value). But I guess that only goes to show your limited knowledge of the subject.
I think it's especially ironic since you're actually trying to discuss a topic you admit you're not familiar with.

Feminism is organic. I'm not talking about academic theory, I'm talking about how its applied in reality. Maybe step out of books?
Huh? Like I said, if you want to discuss feminism, I'm down. You seem to want to talk date philosophy that predates the microwave. A huge amount has changed in the last 70 years. Have you tried reading some newer works?

I don't care for this experiment if I'm honest. Suits are meant to be blend in with other suits, it's a far cry from female fashion is designed to stand out from others. Karl could have worn a new Navy suit every single day and the result would have been the same.
If Karl wore something that stands out, a coloured jumper, anything with graphics on it, crotch drop chinos, what have you, every single day, people would notice.

He's not saying he likes them because they're trying to be attractive. He's saying that if their goal is to be attractive to men, then his subjective opinion is that they would better achieve this goal by looking comfortable, possibly because it makes them look confident in their own clothes and skin, and confidence is attractive. If someone tries too hard you can often tell and it's often not attractive.
I however like heels because of the obvious butt shallow reasons.

They had good reason to do it at first to be honest. I live in a 3rd world country, and trust me, it isn't easy being a woman in certain communities.
[–]flying-sheep -2 points-1 points0 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
No, it's just easy to claim being feminist to make your crazy ideas seem more legitimate.

Third wave feminists are more interested in destroying the patriarchy than they are in uplifting women.

[+]bentoboxbarry -32 points-31 points-30 points 6 years ago* (15 children) | Copy Link
I mean it exists, but the people perpetuating it are virtually untouchable.
So they go for the low hanging fruit to make them feel better.
All these downvotes and no one can actually give a good response? This is honestly just feeling a little incelly
[–]HashZer0 24 points25 points26 points 6 years ago (14 children) | Copy Link
can you kindly give me an example of patriarchy in western society today?
An example where the only logical conclusion is patriarchy and nothing else?
[–]Dis_mah_mobile_one 3 points4 points5 points 6 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
The Muslims feminists are in favor of importing and defending are pretty damn patriarchal, so there’s that.
[–]HashZer0 2 points3 points4 points 6 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
That wouldnt be explained as patriarchy but rather islamic turds following a turd law.
[–]Dis_mah_mobile_one 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Well, yeah. Feminism hates Western Civ so it allies itself with whatever would destroy it.
[–]HashZer0 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Exactly. So that doesnt count as an example of patriarchy but rather a scummy religion.
[–]bentoboxbarry -1 points0 points1 point 6 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link
Hollywood seems pretty dominated by extremely powerful men. Does it not count if there's a single instance contrary?
I'd include sports media as well, for obvious reasons.
What's with the downvotes to the original post? I don't think it was egregious to state that a male dominated societal structure exists?
[–]chainedmayhem 7 points8 points9 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Who are the people perpetuating what you are saying, and how so? Also, Hollywood is not the entire world. Are you basing your viewpoints off this?
[–]bentoboxbarry 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
He asked me about western society specifically, I don't think I mentioned the world at all. Correct me if I'm wrong.
I'd imagine Weinstein is an obvious one. Rupert Murdoch a good example too?
In regards to sports media: the Kroenke family?
In regards to influence on the world on a global stage: Vladimir Putin?
Are the downvotes because you guys don't agree? I've usually lurked on this sub but I didn't realize it was so extreme when having a discussion
[–]HashZer0 2 points3 points4 points 6 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link
Hollywood seems pretty dominated by extremely powerful men.
isnt Hollywood pushing anti-male propaganda tho?
Examples include turning popular franchises loved my everyone especially men into an all female cast or turning the lead male role into a female one, or introducing a Mary Sue into the story.
Examples : Ghostbusters, Ocean's 8, Captain Marvel, casting a female as 007.
If Hollywood was dominated by powerful men they wouldn't allow such an anti male rhetoric.
[–]bentoboxbarry 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link
I think it's purely to make money and satisfy people on a surface level, just like it has for you.
I don't think any of that means anything, and I don't think they do either. As long as they ultinately retain their influence and power and throw out a Ghost Busters here and there to appease a growing consumer demographic
They still decide who works and who doesn't. I bet they laugh at the anti-male rhetoric you're talking about. But that's just my opinion about the movie industry.
[–]HashZer0 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
Its possible but then this isnt an example of patriarchy but rather simple economics.
[–]bentoboxbarry -1 points0 points1 point 6 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
If you define patriarchy as:
a system of society or government in which men hold the power and women are largely excluded from it.
I think it's a bit obtuse to simply call it economics. What's the deal with acknowledging that a small group of men hold incredible decision making power?

Perhaps I should have put patriarchy in quotations. To be clear, it’s not a concept I stand behind or believe to be real in any way, shape, or form. I put it out there to show that they’re feminists in name only. They don’t care about the wellbeing of women rather they just despise men.
I agree and my bad.
The weird thing is I actually think they think they do.
I think they believe they care but really it's just about themselves.
Very ridiculous to say the least

Only women caught for equality.

Most bad ass chicks laugh at feminism. They just be themselves and everyone respects them.
You want respect in this world you earn it regardless if you are a man or a women.
Most women want to be respected in this "man's world" but think the way to get it is crying and screaming how they are victims.
Men know what happens if you cry in this world or bitch for respect you get laughed and likely knocked down.
It's not a gender issue. There are allot of women that have lead armies, businesses, families etc and they didn't get their by screaming about how they are victims and being held back or fucking their way into power. Sex will only get you so far but it won't get you true power and respect.
They did what men do and worked their body and mind to get there.
[–]ithacancypher2k 2 points3 points4 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
This is the bottom line, right here. We gotta raise both sexes with a strong work ethic and an inner-warrior rather than raising princesses while putting the brunt on young males.

Nah...they're really not confusing at all if you remember the simple point that it's a joke that got taken too far. Had we just ignored them in the first place, they wouldn't be such a huge pain the ass right now. Like getting into an auto accident and saying sorry the minute you leave your vehicle.

Ultimately masculinity and femininity are constructs and a bit pointless to dwell on if you’re confused by feminists. I don’t think feminists want to be men or see them as masculine or emulating men at all because feminists are a wide range of people, you’re just focusing on the ones you see as masculine and ignoring the fact that there’s a feminine one across the street because she blends in more.
[+]Feminist_Illuminati -7 points-6 points-5 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
If you want a serious answer:
They don’t attribute everything negative to men.
They do generally oppose forced gender roles, and what you perceive as “emulating men” is often just women being people instead of going out of their way to “be women.” Because if you have to put on an act to “be feminine,” chances are that what’s being defined as feminine isn’t actually inherent to women.
[+][deleted] -7 points-6 points-5 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Feminism isn’t about emulating men, it’s about being who you want to be regardless of societal expectations. I know plenty of feminists who are very feminine, your looks have nothing to do with your politics, and if they do you’ve misunderstood what feminism is.
Edit for typo
[+]StandardIssuWhiteGuy -9 points-8 points-7 points 6 years ago (15 children) | Copy Link
Because "femininity" is a set of gender norms that feminists consider detrimental to women.
You're complaining that women aren't behaving in a way that you think they should behave. Modern feminism has it's internal issues, but that sense of entitlement you just displayed? That's one of the legitimate problems they're trying to work against.
[–]Dis_mah_mobile_one 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Gender norms are both performative and biological, which means there are limits to how malleable the two sexes are.
There is an average around which female behavior clusters, and feminism’s problem is that it attempts to alter that leasing either to failure or increasing unhappiness as it strays from that average for no legitimate purpose.
[–]StandardIssuWhiteGuy -1 points0 points1 point 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
"Femininity" is strictly performative. What makes a woman "feminine" is usually choice of clothing and submissive, demure behavior.
If you're criticizing a woman for not acting feminine, you're criticizing her for not engaging in strictly performative gender norms.
[–]Jugrnot8 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (12 children) | Copy Link
You're wrong and twisting the topic and sounds like a dummy.
Not a dummy because you are a women.
Not wrong because you are a women.
You are an individual talking dumb and is wrong and your gender had nothing to do with it so stop victimizing yourself and just be the change you wish to see. No one is holding you back but yourself crying like a child over ever little thing.
Here's a tip most all men learn really young that women don't seem to ever learn. Life is not fair. Crying gets you no where in this world. We are all victims but no one cares so no sense in dwelling about it. You want respect earn it.
Small guys don't earn respect through testosterone and strength they earn it in different ways. The fact they are guys means nothing. Women are small. You are not going to earn respect like big or tall men. You have to use your head like all smaller people ( men or women) and show something of value (besides your dick or pussy).
And goes what kicking and screaming don't get you shit either.
All of this has nothing to do with gender. It has to do with the animal kingdom. Size and respect, Money, intelligence, power etc
Small guys have the same challenges women do in a lot of ways. They are just not automatically given the respect as a tall strong guy (just like most all women love tall guys) and their presence.
Tough fucking luck! Your weren't born a man. But if you were the second you stopped being cute around 5 all that being babied shit is tossed and we are told to stop crying, be a man, learn to work, learn to fight, learn to stand up for yourself etc.
Men are stripped of our feelings from a young age by our mothers and father's and we grow the fuck up.
Women want to be equal it's not us that will slow down. You will need to speed up. It's just the way it is. Men aren't going all follow this current culture of beta males. It's temporary. We all have to much testosterone to be weak. It's nature.

Guys don't let other guys get away with dumb shit, crying and demanding anything. So you are actually very correct. If a tiny guy comes into a room the can't just start screaming and blame it on anything. He knows he has to earn respect in other ways that have nothing to do with genitals.
Women don't get this. Their genital argument means nothing. You want respect earn it. It's that simple. Whining and crying only makes you get out to the side and told, "men are talking".
The term, "men are talking" really isn't even about anything gender related. It's how we are in the fact we are tight from early on life isn't fair and we are hard on one another. If it was a boy that was being dumb we'd say the adults are talking. If the room was intelligent men and women and a young man was slowing is all down we would tell him the grown ups are talking.
It's just how shit is. We rag on one another. I've had women groups kick me out.
At the end of the day your genitals have nothing to do with your respect in this world.
But all that screaming and whining absolutely will have something to do with it. It makes you look like you belong at the children's table.

I don’t see where you’re getting “it’s a man’s fault” out of this.
“Male privilege” means “men don’t have to deal with this,” not “men did this to us.”
[–][deleted] 5 points6 points7 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
"Female privilege is not needing to wear a suit at work." It sure sounds like women are being blamed even if the company is enforcing those rules.
I respect someone's opinion more when they can state what they think without needing to point out how victimized they are.
Example: "I'm done with women judging me for wearing the same dress more than once. It's cute and I like it, so deal with it." Is a lot more empowering than complaining about a problem and not doing anything about it.
[–]Ixz72 6 points7 points8 points 6 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link
I don't see where you're getting "male privilege" means "men don't have to deal with this".
It seems that particular situation is brought on by women on women. It is not a privilege if men have nothing to do with it.
[–]Feminist_Illuminati -2 points-1 points0 points 6 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link
If you don’t believe my definition of “privilege,” you’re welcome to look it up through a different source, but that’s pretty much exactly what it means.
[–]Ixz72 10 points11 points12 points 6 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link
SMH.
Has nothing to do with what "your definition" of "privilege" means.
When women criticize other women for wearing the same thing twice. That is a woman issue. My question to you is why bring men into it? We have nothing to do with it.
So if you are watching a group of men let's say opposing football fans get into a fight, is it female privilege that they are not affected by that physical altercation?
It's not even ideology or anything, it's pettiness of one group towards it's own and another group who has nothing to do with that pettiness is being pulled in. Privilege has nothing to do with it.
[–]Jugrnot8 3 points4 points5 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
So fucking crazy women don't get this. They generally have to be a victim. I feel bad for so many bad ass women that have to share genders with this victim ...cry baby generation.
[–]nibblemybutt 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Privilege means an advantage or it can mean an immunity to a situation which is how the commenter is using it and they’re using the word correctly. Female privilege is avoiding pain from a football to the groin etc
[–]Ixz72 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Privilege means an advantage or it can mean an immunity to a situation
Privilege has a broad definition even just basing it on the two examples you said. I know she used the word correctly in the context she was pointing out.
And if we are using that definition of "immunity to a situation" then a part of male "privilege" can be eliminated by women by simply not being petty to each other.
[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
In your analogy it would be female privilege that women are not expected to like sports and participate in football hooliganism - I know it sounds dumb, it’s a bad analogy. Privilege within gender isn’t about male vs female, but society against the individual.
[–]MrSmile223 -1 points0 points1 point 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
No because women get into fights. But if they couldn't/rarely did then yes.
[–]Jugrnot8 2 points3 points4 points 6 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link
Both sides have priveledges. Stop whining about being a victim and if you know your worth go out there and get it.
Boys get knocked down we are told to get up and keep going. Women seem to stay down crying or wait for a Knight in shining armor to come help them. Be the change you want to see. Get off the ground and stop crying waiting for change to come. Be a role model for the next generation. Show them hard work and fortitude not kicking, screaming and coloring your armpits pink.
Boys are forced into this world early on while you get hugs and kisses. Don't think 30 years in you are going to come out on the play ground crying and whining for everyone to let you be at the top of the jungle gym and to respect you.
[–]Ixz72 4 points5 points6 points 6 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Ahhh yes.
From now on I'm going to tell my kids if someone starts whining and crying they need to just give them what they want and also fall to the ground and start whining and crying also.
If someone didn't earn or deserve something and stay demanding it just give it to them.
More or less let's not expect anyone to strive to be stronger, smarter etc let's all just be entitled wine asses that think because 50 years ago someone had it bad so give me everything now even tho I've faced very little struggle.

This is going to make you fall off your rocker.
A few months ago, we were at a children's party and a boy about 3 years old was jumping on the couch, fell off and hit his head on the coffee table. He was visibly shook but got up and brushed it off.
His mom grabbed him, checked him over and asked if he was okay. The boy said he was fine. The next thing that happened made the jaws of every man within earshot, drop.
The mom asked her son if he wanted to take a break and cry about it. Seriously. The kid brushed it off and the mom asked him if he wanted to cry about it.

I feel like that could fall under toxic feminity. Men can be men and don't need to be turned into a bunch of cucks. Applaud him and encourage him for handling it like a champ.
It's like when my kids would fall I would start laughing. It's confusing to a child but so is that frantic grasp that people do that conditions the child to start tearing up.
Yeah it's like in fight club where he says men are being raised by single women and eventually realize we are pissed. It's ok for us to be men and embrace our natural characters.

female privilege is being able to file a false rape report and be able to destroy a man's reputation even when it's proven wrong...
and STILL have liberal support.
and also every headline will read "[male name] alledged rape/sexual assault]" which is solidified in the eyes of the public.

Being able to oppress women is a female privilege. If there are such things as “male privileges”, that certainly isn’t one of them.

Typical feminist projection, a woman’s power comes from her physical appearance hence the reason they care so much about their appearance.
Men on the other hand the power comes from their social status hence the reason someone as ugly as Harvey Weinstein could continue get the attention from women that he got.
But sure blame men for your own faults.

When a piece of clothing is loud and vibrant, people are going to notice how often you usually wear it. Most, not all, of women’s clothing has different patterns colors and styles. Men may not wear these type of clothes and usually can get away with wearing a simple grey or blue suit all the time (we may notice the tie). Now, the reality is a lot of people don’t give a shit about what you wear. Wear whatever the fuck you want. Just own it. Feel confident and be you.

10 percent of the females, or 5 percent of the population, insist on new dresses. Response of the matriarchy: 'yes master' mixed with 'damn those males'. 100 percent of the men, or 50 percent of the population, want to ban the bra | free the nipple | topless beaches for all. Response of the matriarchy: 'naw'. Hmm who exactly is in charge here?
If women actually obeyed the patriarchy they'd be topless, not this 'new dress' bs that no male ever cared about.

I worked with a guy who wore the same suit for 1 year without washing. He didn’t realise it could be washed. Got to admit I was a little impressed
[–]sheldondbrown 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
He didn’t know it could be washed... please tell me he was living in his mom’s basement all his life and this was his first suit.
In point of fact - sure. Don’t throw your suit in the gentle cycle. Do get it cleaned though. I was practically raised with the idea that you take EVERYTHING to the dry cleaner/laundry to take care of it long term.
Clothes today don’t quite live up to the quality my Grandfather or father had back in the day but cleaning your suit once every few weeks (with regular wear) is a must.

Except this privilege isn’t about perception. If you really wanted to get into it you’d see that male privilege is having like zero advertising towards men in comparison to women. And what advertising there is towards men is about being rugged which just means men can be whatever. Women in advertising are essentially the same people promoting the same thing. That if you want to get anywhere you need to be fuckable.
I agree. My mom comments whenever I wear the same pants twice. I don't really see dudes comment that often. And at school, literally no one cares either way.
So I read this to my girl and before I read, “The negative comments will come from other women.” She said it word for word lmao. They know.

Female privilege is that women's dress fashion is WAY more varied than men's. Enough so that women have the ability to never wear the same dress more than once. For men, there's little more than detail variations on the 3-piece suit.

But she starts with “male privilege” she is blaming men.
[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
I don't see that. It doesn't seem accusatory at all. Envious maybe.
[–]PlatinumPequod 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
I mean envy can be developed by blame as well. Either way she’s saying it’s our fault in a way. Which it isn’t,

I don't see that.
[–]PlatinumPequod 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Whether you see it or not the start of her sentence shows she’s clearly blaming men.
No it doesn't. If she replied to that guy's comment "I disagree" then yes.
But equally she could say "I entirely agree with you"
She gives no indication as to whether she thinks men, women or both criticise women's clothes.
It's a neutral statement in terms of accusation.

I disagree that this should debunk weather or not it's a privilege. While I don't think it's a privilege because it's just stupid, it shouldn't matter whether it comes from men or women. Same reason why the fact that 'men are more likely to be the victim of a violent crime and, when including prison, are more likely to be sexually assaulted' point still stands as why women are privileged. It doesn't matter who it comes from because the man who is the victim of a violent crime at the hands of another man shouldn't be seen as privileged over the women who isn't. Against, this is a stupid argument for what a privilege is, but the counter-argument just shouldn't be accepted on that basis.

Really? You're an idiot. Clothing and so many fashions are relatively new to our species.
Like saying, I took estrogen and became some vapid glamour insta gram whore. It was so weird I just wanted to bang chads and get as much material items, money and attention as I could.
That shot has nothing to do with being a women. Allot of women hate women that are like this.
[–]Jugrnot8 2 points3 points4 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Perhaps a misunderstanding of what your point was initially. But estrogen will certainly not have any direct association on clothing choices on a daily basis. If you are trying to fit in and be a women I could see that happening but that is not the same as the biological changes making you desire a new dress everyday.
Many many many women have very simple wardrobes. Country girls, nerdy girls etc.

But she never mentioned it was men giving negative comments? She just said girls can’t wear the same dress as a general statement. Which is true, women do get criticized a lot for wearing the same outfit. Its just a statement on society as a whole, shes not blaming any particular gender.
Ex: A female news anchor was criticized for wearing the same outfit twice, so her male co worker, as an experiment, wore the same exact suit for a year and no one said a thing

[+][deleted] -8 points-7 points-6 points 6 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
The concept of privilege is not attributing blame. The tweet is saying that because of factors of society, men have the privilege (i.e. The general ability) to not be judged for weari g the same thing two days in a row, whereas women do not. The tweet is neither blaming men or women but is instead stating a societal issue that is often overlooked
[–]Dashcrash9820 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Ok putting it like that, yea it is usually overlooked and imo should be done away with. However mentality is something that cannot be easily changed sadly. In order to get rid of it, that mentality should not even be taught imo just like how we should teach our boys that it's OK to be emotional.
Yup I can agree to that
[–]mostintuitively 2 points3 points4 points 6 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
By this logic female privilege is not having to deal with pressures of toxic masculinity.
[–][deleted] -2 points-1 points0 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
I get what you're saying, but your example is so broad as to make it false.
Women feel the effects of toxic masculinity all the time.
There are some specific things women don't have to deal with. But often, those things have an analog pressure on women, too.
Example: Women don't have to deal with being expected to pay for dinner on a date. On the other hand, they face societal pressure if they make more money than their date.
[–]mostintuitively 4 points5 points6 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
They actually do not. I feel like, as a Man, even when I’m broke I’m still expected to pay for the meal. And that is something women absolutely do not deal with.
[–]startsbadpunchains 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link
Hahaha man im so glad where I'm from freaks like you don't exist.
You can deny plain reality all you want.
Women have much stricter fashion expectations from society than men.
Are you denying this?
Depends what you mean, men are expected to choose from a handful of similar items. That's a strict fashion expectation. I think it's swings and roundabouts, as far as fashion goes.
[–]Swap715 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
The "society" you saying includes just women and gay men. We men don't give a flying fuck about women fashion whatsoever
Nobody said otherwise!
Who the fuck do you think you're disagreeing with?
Seriously, spell out where somebody claimed that it's straight men causing the problem.
[–]startsbadpunchains 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link
If by society you mean other woman and if by expectations you mean another woman making a snide comment behind someone's back about someone's cheap shoes once in a while then yes you are right. Who gives a flying fuck?
In the last 15 years a 'privilege' has went from basic rights and basic needs to "Well you don't have to deal with Julie making a drunken sarcastic comment about your new shoes!! mAlE PrIvILegE!!!"
Just fuck off, get a life and stop crying about pointless shit for one minute you drivelling perma-victims.
[–]saitselkis 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
But the idea of male privilege is that its provided by other males or by maleness. The fact that women are catty bitches really cant be blamed on us, but it's MaLe pRiviLeGe that we don't have to deal with catty bitches. That's like saying its male privilege that we don't get periods, like were supposed to do something about it. "Yeah, Karen? I bought a box of tampons and plan on buying another in about 28 days, I'm going to need extra long bathroom breaks and cart blanche to be moody and short tempered for the next few days, k thanks."
[+]anothermaninyourlife -9 points-8 points-7 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
It's still a privilege men have. Other men don't easily judge us for wearing the same outfits.
I've come to realize when talking about injustice and privilege, it's not necessarily that the opposite party is enforcing the injustice. So when women talk about men having certain privileges, it's the women that are enforcing those privileges. Yet it still exists.
Some women may fail to acknowledge that it's their own kind that are restricting each other. But most do acknowledge this but can't/don't do anything about it. Obviously, this is only referring to specific issues.
Say this with me women.... Who the fuck cares!
Most men just don't care what others say or if it really bothers us we handle it.
This is not a priveledge. Your argument is silly. Priveledge would be something we get to do that you don't. You can wear the same shit every day like men and you might hear someone say something like women always do to men and you can learn to not give a fuck like men.
I wear the same stuff every day btw so I know this and people say stuff I just don't care. Jeans a plain tshirt... No brands. It's called having confidence. Which many women seem to lack but if you really want change don't die for attention by coloring your hair or screaming at every man. Just change and be yourself and be humble and support other women.
Most shit women bitch about is stuff they do to themselves or stuff that is not specific to "men" obstructing them.
