Why do people seem to think that the one and only thing a woman can do in life is have children? You can have a fulfilling a career, pursue a hobby, travel, read, etc. etc. and still have children. You might not be able to do all of those things at the exact same time, but you can still do them. I also don't understand why everything needs a purely practical purpose. Can't a woman work at a job because she enjoys it?

My own mother extolled the benefits of being a SAHM but even she regretted not getting an education and not traveling more when she had the opportunity.

Also, I don't think feminism has caused this view in men. Plenty of men thought women were stupid prior to any major feminist movement, and it's because they were assholes.

I think most mothers would say that prioritizing your spouse and maintaining your identity as a woman are essential to creating a happy, healthy home for your children. I would love to read a post written by somebody who actually has kids and can speak from experience instead of fantasy.

You should be healthy and look good and be able to do things, not super skinny, malnourished and stressed. Too thin, especially through unnatural measures, is as bad as too fat. Not to mention half my hair fell out :D

This really bothers me because yes, higher IQ people tend to be men. Also, lower IQ people tend to be men. Women are in the middle of the curve.

Seriously, though ... I read the linked article, and (as I commented there) it seems the unhappy friends' problem is that they don't have a mission for their lives. Marriage and/or motherhood are honorable missions, but they're not the only ones. And opting for marriage and motherhood when it's not your mission can be disastrous (as the author points out, perhaps inadvertently, in the case of her friend's poorly-parented and bratty child).

The real problem I see here is that many people drift through life aimlessly, or just follow a prescribed path that they've been assured will lead to success and happiness (and then are disappointed when it doesn't). Sometimes you have to dig deep and even go against the grain to do what you're meant to do in this world! It isn't always easy, but it's worth it, IMO.

I actually didn't want to respond, but I should.

Masculine men don't think women are dumber. In fact, most of us have been with plenty of women who outstripe us in multiple ways.

We think the goals are different.

We look for those who are complementary.

Yes IQ measures the things 1st world shitty values most, and women are not as extreme as men on either side.

Exteroception is masculine as well, interoception is balanced. Empathy is feminine.

There are many masteries, I agree, but this seems more like click bait than actual useful information.

Just my opinion and experience, and just as an aside, I've been to over 100 ports, I've traveled a lot and these differences are most prevalent in abundant communities, (1st world). You'd be surprised how quickly any brain will adapt and focus when food and water are on the line daily.

You can pick your career though. Anyone can be a nurse and make a good salary by doing feminine things all day. If a woman chooses something else, that's pretty much her choice. Its not like she was never given the option to choose something feminine lol.

I don't see why any woman would care what another woman is doing TBH. If you don't want a career, don't get a career. If you don't want a masculine career, get a feminine career. There's no rule book out there saying what you can and can't do.

There are a lot of men who like (even RWP) intelligent women. Bookish girls who are usually shy. There are lots of men who don't care either. I think its kind of up to the woman to see what she wants to do with her OWN life lol.

And last I checked, if there were no female nurses (for example), everyone would be really uncomfortable. Some women can stay in the home, but its a better world with more women in the workplace. And again, if you don't want to be in the workplace, then don't lol.

Side note: Men thought women were stupid before feminism. That doesn't have to do with feminism.

Children are a huge investment. Women should only have children when they fully understand the struggle that comes with it. A lot of struggle comes with high paying careers as well.

I have personally found that women are more willing to be caretakers than workers and men are more willing to be workers than caretakers. You can't be both at the same time. A traditional relationship works well because of this naturally preferred dynamic.

There are women who are excellent in their chosen field and they are contributing a lot to it and should continue to do so. They have done so in the past as well(in lesser numbers than men though).

So, while I would advocate for more awareness of traditional gender roles and why they work. I also don't think women who genuinely want to per sue a career should be stopped. I also think schools should be gender segregated but I don't want to make this comment any longer haha.

IMO it's a binary thinking fallacy to say that if men and women have some fundamental differences, then they must be different across the board. While men and women each excel in certain areas of intelligence (spatial vs social, etc), it's not the case that men as a group are significantly above women in terms of analytical intelligence.

Look at the distribution for any test that measures analytical intelligence, and you will see that men have more geniuses and more idiots, so the gender differences are noticeable at each end of the scale. You also see that the average man (in the very middle of the bell curve) is smarter than the average woman—but both sexes have plenty of representation in the somewhat-below to somewhat-above section of the distribution. There may be more men than women who have higher-than-average (not genius level) intelligence, but there are still a lot of women there.

Should women who are plenty analytical and smart be educated in different schools with different methods to develop only their peculiarly feminine gifts? I don't think so. Society needs lots of above-average-smart people in roles that will make full use of their capabilities, and society also should let those people actualize themselves in a complete way.

We pay too much attention to the Steve Jobs and Elon Musks of the world. Yes, the next person who changes the world will likely be a man. But we will also need a lot of pretty-smart people to add to and implement his ideas in important ways.

Finally, I think that feminine career apathy is more of a United States/Western-based thing. Women study and work in STEM-type fields in much greater numbers in the places that most of us aren't from.

I'm seeing a crazy theme in this thread of dictating a woman's choices as opposed to arguing for her right to make them, whether it concerns her body size, her hypothetical kids, or her career.

RP is amoral, so any argument that it's immoral for a woman to choose, say, to work long hours instead of having a family is kind of missing the point. It's not immoral to not want children. It's not immoral to work when you have children (as long as the children are well cared for). It's not immoral if your calling is artistic, capitalistic, or domestic.

It's AMORAL and practical to point out that any woman who spends her life pursuing things that she doesn't truly want, is probably going to be pretty miserable. That misery is going to manifest in pretty shitty ways. It's going to hurt the people around her. If you don't want to be thin, don't be thin. If you don't want babies to be your primary focus in life, don't make babies your primary focus in life. But be an adult and live with your choices - if you wait until you're 40 to have kids, you'll have to face the cold hard reality that you may not be able to bear them. If you drop out of the workforce at 23 to raise your children, you'll have to face the cold hard reality that when you want to work a decade later, you may not be able to have the career you envisioned.

You have a moral obligation to children ONCE you have them but you have no moral obligation to want them, or to want them to the EXCLUSION of all other things.

I have to be honest. Your blog post terrifies me.

If you’re a woman who is reading this and still can’t figure out “what to do with your life”. The answer to happiness and fulfillment is right under your nose.

As someone who doesn't have children, how are you sure that they are the answer to happiness and fulfillment? Further, as someone who is clearly not happy or fulfilled, what makes your life advice so well-esteemed?

But what you don’t realize is that I used to be like A, B, and C: starting grad school, never finishing it, starting a new degree somewhere else and never finishing that one either, trying to “find my passion” and failing miserably until I woke up one day and discovered that it’s all a waste of time.

Is your life experience representative of all women? Isn't it a little presumptuous to conclude that your personal lack of direction and self-discipline is suddenly the norm for all us? If you've spent any time over at TRP, perhaps you've read the term Solipsism?

Sure, women have a biological imperative to have children. Technically, men have a biological imperative to have sex/children with a multitude of women. Over at TRP, at a basic level, you see this manifest as men choosing to maintain a harem of plates. And yet, notice, that even though they are fulfilling their "biological imperative" by having a variety of sex, they are not personally happy or fulfilled.

Further, if you look a little closer, you also begin to notice that the older/higher-regarded TRP posters start to frame their life mission in a different way. Through their self-improvement, they realize that there is a little more to life than our biology. That there is meaning beyond sex/relationships/love, entirely.

By all means, I believe that having children is a magical experience for anyone. But your opinion on how a woman can find happiness or fulfillment is your opinion alone. Frankly, and as with feminism, I'm a little sick of women attempting to be a voice for me.

Perhaps a measure for a woman's intelligence could be her ability to just shut up sometimes.

I found this blog and this line of thinking to be extremely narrow-minded and reductionist. You might as well tell women who can't have kids to go into a barn and blow their brains out. Women can have fulfilling lives and make valuable contributions to society whether or not they choose or are able to have children.

If the only careers available were hunting elk and plowing a field, you might be right in saying that women are better off gathering and taking care of the hearth. But we live in a modern world, with many different trades, some more optimal for a woman's inherent skill set and some better suited for men's. Also, until the past century, traditional "house work" was far more labor intensive than it is now.

Last but not least, with the exception of a brief period of unprecedented peace and prosperity in the 1950s-early 1960s, most women in the United States and through out the world worked outside of the home. The option of being a SAHM is privilege that many families simply cannot afford.

Look, no two ways about it. I'm a misogynist. I think men and women are different and that men are often more functional.

But the truth is that women outstrip men in essentially all areas academically (including math). I've heard that this might be because schools are designed in a way that encourages conformity & repetition etc. and it represses active, creative (ADD) boys but that's a hard sell for me.

What's more likely I think is that men occupy the extremes of intelligence and achievement whereas women have less variance and gravitate towards the mean (the bell curve for them is more narrow whereas for men its much wider). This essentially means that troglodyte men are everywhere but also that the other side of the extreme men are more represented. A harvard math professor got in trouble for pointing out this theory to explain why, even when they heavily prioritied gender diversity in the staff at ivy league schools, they could not find enough female professors who were sufficiently qualified for the job.

A million times yes! Universities are skewed toward teaching women, besides the lack of men entering college now it has become a woman's world at the expense of men. Could it be that a widespread 50/50 split of women and men in the same careers and education is actually impossible, because men and women are different and one will inevitably be pushed to pick up the parental investment slack at the end of the day? I'm supposedly one of those super high intelligent achieving males, three degrees (Masters/PhD/MBA), 6 figure salary, sporty, do well with women, blablablablaa...

I find women's understanding and reading of social and emotional situations absolutely fascinating and captivating. It takes me several seconds/minutes sometimes to decipher clues and emotions that women just get like that in an instant. They just operate on a completely different level that men just don't understand. The usual defence of acting aloof is really not to embarrass myself that I've misread a situation, it works well. Very few women know how, in how they can read emotional and social clues, they are way out of the league of your average man, especially your average rose glass tinted beta dreamy man.

Women aren't as intelligent as men. Doing those tasks you described does not particularly take much brain power. Men are capable of abstract thought and superior creativity which has allowed them to build civilizations for us. Engineering, scientific discoveries, architecture, all produced by men. That's not to say no woman is capable of such endeavors, but we just don't have the mental capacity on average. This does make us dumber and weaker and that's okay. Also, women shouldn't be hobby-less. Play drums if you want, take up cycling, this doesn't make you a masculine woman. In fact, i'd wager it'd make you more attractive if a man sees that you're capable of doing things other than cooking and cleaning while still maintaining femininity. I just hate that RPW see things as either extreme end, either a bull dyke masculine feminist or a simpleton home maker. You're allowed to have other intellectual pursuits.

As an aside, I don't believe spanking is good for children, there are studies linking it to lower IQ, poor social skills, lack of emotional control, etc. (It might be only correlation and not causation but I would be hesitant anyways.)
