Uh. It’s constant? I stop and sit down maybe 2 hours tops during the day and then from 6 til I go to bed.

Monday I meal plan, make grocery list, and order my groceries.

Tuesday I vacuum main and upstairs floors

Wednesday I vacuum downstairs, my groceries are delivered and I clean one of our bathrooms

Thursday is bathroom cleaning day and 3 loads of my laundry/towels

Friday is bacon cooking day but otherwise pretty light

Saturday is my husbands laundry and I do hand wash only dish washing

Sunday is clean bed day and bed laundry.

Everyday I make simple breakfast, cook a hot lunch, and cook dinner (which sometimes has prep involved earlier in the day) I bake desserts probably 2x a week

Tues and thurs I take one of my kids to preschool

One of my children has therapy appointments so I often have to manage those and/or correspondence to set that up.

There’s also routine daily tidying, a daily load of child laundry, homework, responding to my childrens’ needs, etc etc.

On paper it seems to be not a lot, but in practice it takes up the whole day.

I work p/t 20-25h a week with no kids but we have 2 cats & 2 dogs. I take about 20h week for housework. So basically I work a full time job if you count my domestic work. I hate mess but my fiance is messy so I do extra to clean to my standards. When we have kids I won't be working except maybe some babysitting. I can't imagine how stressful it is to do all of the housework, take care of children, and have a full time job. My friends who work full time and do the housework are extremely stressed as it is.

Weekly housework breakdown:

Cooking, trash, countertops, & dishes: 7h

Floors: 1h

Pet care: 4h

Laundry: 2h

Errands/grocery shopping: 2h

Bathroom: 1h

Tidying up/making bed: 2h

I feel like I spend way more time cooking and cleaning than other people, and I'm not sure if it's just that I'm slow / don't have efficient habits / am a perfectionist.

My husband sleeps like an epileptic beached dolphin so it can take me 5-10 minutes to make the bed with all the pillows arranged.

It can take an hour for me to make breakfast if I'm baking something more complex (scones, eggs/bacon, coffee) and I'll work on laundry during the downtimes there. Another 15 minutes of cleanup. General tidying will be 20 or so minutes throughout the day.

Day to day a "bigger" task will vary. I like to wash, chop/prep, and organize in containers all the groceries before they go into the fridge, so that takes me a while. Deep cleaning the bathrooms, vacuuming furniture, doing extra laundry, etc might be 30-60 minutes depending on the task.

Dinner easily take me an hour MINUS cleanup because I like to bake bread, make desserts, more complex dishes, etc. Cleanup is 30 minutes including dishes, food storage, counters, floors, and trash. I might check the laundry again before bed.

Or at least, that was my routine pre-baby (she is a week old now). Now I try to get a load of laundry done and kitchen cleaned every day and that's been all I've been able to stay on top of. I've managed to cook a more simple dinner twice (curry chicken and broccoli cheese soup) and baked one apple pie, and other than that it's been pizza and takeout over here! Still working on a manageable routine....

If you're living in an apartment, with no outdoor space, it makes total sense that you're over there thinking you must be a slovenly mess compared with some women. I'm sure that's not the case and you just have less to clean, even with children. I live in a 2300 square foot home on over an acre, though. I'm home all day with my six month old twins and I spend a good chunk of that cleaning.

Every morning, I make the bed and either load any dishes into the dishwasher or unload the dishwasher or both. I try to reset my home every night so this isn't necessary, but that doesn't always happen.

My girls almost always need new sheets on their beds in the morning, as well as new clothes a few times a day, so I just build a load of laundry throughout the day, throwing everything in the washer as it gets dirty. At night, I either start it or judge whether to wait until the next day.

When the babies are awake, I like to let them lay on a blanket on the floor, surrounded by toys and books, so when I put them down, I put everything away and since they take several naps a day, that's done on repeat. That blanket almost always needs to be washed after they've been drooling and spitting up on it for a couple of hours, as well. Since my little fashionistas go through three outfits a day, on average, which is of course six total, plus a couple of blankets, I'm folding baby laundry pretty much constantly. I also don't like to stay in clothing that has spit up on it and I go through a couple of shirts and/or pants, myself, so I'm folding my laundry as well. My husband has a particular way he likes his folded, so I leave that to him.

I have a lot of houseplants and have to water them regularly, so that takes time, cleaning up the water I spill and the dirt. We have no carpet, so I have to sweep pretty regularly and with pets, babies, and a live Christmas tree, I've been vacuuming a lot lately. With twins, I have to empty the diaper pail quite frequently and we create a lot of trash, so I'm often taking that out, sometimes even driving the larger boxes and such to a dumpster somewhere.

I keep seasonal throws out on the sofa, because I think it's cozy, so have to wash them regularly and fold them and fluff the numerous throw pillows. My husband doesn't always live up to my standards for tidiness, though he absolutely cleans his share, so I'm regularly putting away his reading glasses and hats and shoes. I like things organized and I hate clutter and I don't feel like my neuroses are really his problem, as long as he's living up to normal standards for neatness, which he does, more or less.

We love to entertain and regularly have friends over, so it's really important to me that my house looks and smells nice. I burn waxes all the time, in several burners, so I have to change them regularly. I put up a lot of seasonal decor, which requires tidying as well.

I prepare my husband's lunch for him, because he comes home and feeds a baby before he eats, so cooking takes some time, as well. This creates more dishes than normal, as do double the bottles and I try to stay on top of that as the day passes. I almost always have some kind of project going, because I like to stay busy and I sell a lot of crafts, so that takes it's share of cleanup.

In short, I spend a lot of time cleaning, but that's my choice, because I like things really tidy and organized and I wouldn't say that anyone needs to live up to my standards. I honestly enjoy doing these things, so I have no complaints. When I worked full time, it was tough, so it's great to have the time and energy to do all of these things and my husband is very appreciative.

I work part time, have 4 kids, homeschool two of them.

I roll parenting into housework because they do a lot of chores now (taking out garbage, doing dishes, etc). I spend probably 1-2 hr a day on meal prep/clean up, .5 hr on laundry (every few days), tidying is a half hour a day or so, my husband handles the bigger clean up jobs on the weekend.

I'm a housewife without kids and I spend about 3 hours a day cleaning Monday-Friday. And that's just cleaning not cooking, or running errands, or l anything like that. I will say I have a large home for just 2 people, more rooms more cleaning. And we have 4 cats and a Newfoundland so the cleaning of fur and slobber is a lot.

It takes me a very long time to clean. I could clean my entire house from 7am to 5pm. Deep clean.

Then again, I’m the sort of person who will take everything out of my pantry and wipe the shelves because I found one piece of dust on a shelf.

I take the word “spotless” very seriously.

I work full time from home. My kids are big - 16 and 12. I manage to run laundry during my work day. Also unload the dishwasher from the night before. I get off at 5:00 and usually start dinner between 5:30 and 6:00. We will eat anywhere between 6:30-7:30. Then I load the dishwasher, wash the pots and pans, and clean the counters.

I have a Roomba that vacuums daily (2 shedding dogs).

I usually meal plan on Saturday and set a grocery delivery for Sunday. Husband and kids all have access to the grocery app, and they add any snacks and extras they want themselves. Groceries are delivered on Sunday. We all carry them in and put them away. Then I’ll meal prep husband’s lunches for the week (usually just shredding some rotisserie chickens for wraps and washing and storing fruit in the fridge).

We have a cleaning lady for the dusting, mopping, bathrooms, etc.

I work full time and have three kids 8 and under. My job is WFH right now and it's a pretty easy make work office job. I can do some chores during work breaks. We live in a smallish one level house and have a dog.

That said, here's my best estimate:

Cooking and kitchen cleanup: I probably spend at least an hour on this daily, maybe more like 90 mins. This is by far the most time consuming chore. Food prep, cooking, loading/unloading dishwasher, making school lunches and snacks, cleaning the kitchen itself. Plus grocery shopping once a week. I probably cook one meal from scratch every couple of days and we're big on leftovers. I'm surprised by how many women here seem to cook three hot meals from scratch every day!

Vacuuming: 30 mins twice a week. On very busy weeks, I vacuum once a week.

Laundry: I'm always throwing in a load of laundry or have a basket laundry to sort. I don't separate or fold most laundry, just put it away, and almost nothing we own needs ironing. Sheets are changed every 1-2 weeks. I tell my kids not to toss stuff in the laundry unless it's smelly or visibly dirty, with the exception of underwear and socks.

Cleaning: I do a lot of spot cleaning in the bathrooms when time allows. Kids are brushing teeth, I'm wiping down the counter, etc. I dust sporadically, and yes, there are scary cowwebby places in my house.

Misc cleanup: Kids messes, organizing, etc. I do a bit of this daily. Major organizing happens once a year when I'm off in late December.

This doesn't include daily childcare, of course. Yard/garage/handyman work is all my husband's.

I feel that my house is in pretty decent shape, especially compared to some other houses I've seen of parents with young kids! But it depends on your cleaning standards too--my mom always finds something to shake her head at when she visits. 🤷

It’s the difference in home size almost certainly. I have 2300 square feet. That square footage does not include an unfinished basement plus 2 car garage. Plus almost 2 acres of land. Every space of our house gets used regularly and needs to be cleaned- 4 bedrooms, 2.5 baths, a family room, dining room, living room, and large eat in kitchen. Our outdoor space needs constant work.

I love our home so I don’t mean to complain. But it’s a ton of work. I spend hours a day on housework and it’s never really enough. We plan to get a monthly housekeeper with my husbands next raise.

I work part-time (no kids) and I probably spend an hour a day on cleaning (and honestly, that's probably an overestimate). So let's say 6 hours a week. Our house is clean, but not spotless and looks lived-in, not fancy.

Meal-planning is maybe an hour or two a week, depending on how inspired I'm feeling that week.

Grocery shopping is 2-2.5 hours a week (I go to two stores and take my time).

Cooking - this part takes up a lot of time, but is different depending on the day. I tend to do a few hours of cooking on Saturday afternoons to set us up for my work days and lunches for the week. So on average maybe 30min-1hr a day on cooking (but I really only cook dinners and meal prep breakfasts and usually a cold salad for lunches).

So yeah - I feel like my days are generally pretty reasonable, and I still have time for my hobbies as well. I know kids obviously change the calculus a lot, but right now it's good!

Tbh I'm not sure, i work from home, so I often do laundry while I'm working, same with dishes.

Vacuuming, watering plants and dusting I just fit in.

And i also cook while working in between tasks, I mostly make large portions of stew ish foods/soups and salads for meal prep so I can often get all my food prep done in between work.

All in all, I would estimate I on average use an hour a day maximum.

Note: I'm living alone, and have no kids or pets

Edit: I rarely do housework on weekends, just the normal keeping stuff tidy

2-4 hours daily, plus my husband does 45 minutes about of dishes a day. We probably do 8-10 hours cleaning some weekends and this does not count mowing our one acre or fixing things on our home.

EDIT: Wait, does this count homeschooling and then cooking too...and childcare? Okay then its probably hmm.......every waking minute?
