Absolutely! My femininity is a huge asset. My looks and personality put clients at ease, encourage trust, and make everything more enjoyable. Watch "The Producers" and listen to the song 'If you got it, flaunt it'. Here's a hint: this doesn't just apply to theater.

Now, you shouldn't dress like a slut or act like a prostitute. You can absolutely be pleasant, positive, competent, engaging, charming, and interesting. As long as you aren't behaving in an unprofessional and embarrassing way....use every aspect of your personality and your good looks to get ahead!

I definitely do and I don't there's anything wrong with it. I was given female beauty and I can tell men appreciate it, even other women appreciate it. I give classes and notice the mothers have started coming to my class and dressing up. Looking good makes me feel good and in my feminine element. It's part of being a woman. Use it!

If you are attractive and people are not blind, it's impossible to not use your looks.

I always dress better and make sure to do my hair when I have appointments with clients. I view this as being professional. But if people are more receptive to me because I'm pretty, well that's an added bonus and I'm certainly not going to complain about it.

I don't understand why using your looks is somehow negative but using your intellect is positive. Both are something that you have predominantly due to luck and good genes so I don't see one as being inherently better or more acceptable than the other.

I personally have experienced that being a blonde relatively attractive young woman working in STEM, it has afforded me a lot of business opportunities. All companies I have worked for have encouraged me into 'face' roles like meeting customers and sales-orientated work - telling me outright that I "present myself well". I won't read in between the lines as to the deeper meaning to this or whether this is unfair/wrong - all I know is that it has afforded me options in my life which align with the goals of my partner and I. I am actually extremely excited to be working from home in the very near future.

Yes and no. I think it's fine to use it as long as you aren't being manipulative or unprofessional. I'm a pretty woman and I act fairly feminine so my male coworkers always leap to help me. I don't act fragile or anything but I admit when I need help and I go to of way my way to be courteous to labmates. I can get our techs to do things other women in the lab cannot because they act much more masculine than I do. My smiling and kind words has allowed me to smooth over conflicts too.

When I'm doing a great deal of lab work or "gross" work, I wear old jeans and don't bother with too much hair or makeup styling but I doll myself up for presentations and conferences. Beautifying myself makes me feel prepared; my advisor and committee are going to hit my intellect hard so having an elegant outfit, perfect hair, and flawless face make me feel strong! I find that older profs flirt with me but as long as they don't touch me or make inappropriate comments, I honestly don't mind.

It depends on how you're asked to use your looks.

At my first job in college, once a moon, a man would make a big show of spending a lot of money at my store before asking me out. When I declined, they'd always seem angry, as if I owed them- as though I was the free makeup bag you get if you spend a hundred bucks at Sephora. Once, a man even insisted on returning his entire purchase after I declined to go out with him. It always made me feel like I needed a shower. If I was asked to lead those men on or flirt to bring those sales in, I'd be really unhappy and probably quit.

On the other hand, I can do my hair and makeup to seem more friendly, kind, and approachable. I can tweak my lip liner subtly so that I look like I have a hint of a smile all the time or soften the natural frown-shape of my brows. In that way, I absolutely use my beauty to be more effective at my job.

Everyone (who can) takes their appearance into account to get what they want. Including men. Anyone who tells you otherwise is lying.

It depends on your job, but I would feel uncomfortable with it, especially with your boss being so direct.

My boss did a similar thing to me once- they used me to be in the photos published at a conference of our lab because I am quite pretty and not what you typically see at these conferences. It made me uncomfortable at the time: I've gotten to where I am by sheer hard work and intelligence. I didn't like having my achievements distilled down to a pretty picture of me in a lab coat.

I'm quite small and I dress traditionally (vintage 50s style) so it helps when I work with kids, I've been told I look very maternal and warm, combined with my demeanor, which is very feminine. I'm proud of it!

This happens to me alot at work. When there's a big meeting or a big customer in the office, they either invite me to the meeting or i have to bring in snacks or lunch or coffee. I don't mind it, my boss once explained to me that we all bring things to work that make the company better. Sometimes in the meetings i feel bad because i am not all together familiar with the subject, but i look at it as an opportunity to learn more about the company and the customer!

Hmm, I have been thinking about this lately. I am majoring in a STEM field and I find it useful to have study sessions with classmates who have a stronger grasp on the material, often men. I sometimes think they would not waste their time studying with me if I weren't a relatively attractive female.

It can be uncomfortable but I definitely use it. Even my grandma uses my beauty. She has me open the door for her potential renters because apparently more rent after seeing me.

We have a shorter amount of time to grow in our careers if you think about it. We eventually dedicate our time to children. So use your beauty while you can. However if you're essentually modeling for the company you should be paid a bit extra for that.

The most bothersome is when time is wasted because of it. I had someone pretend he wanted to rent a room in my apartment (via a facebook group) because he wanted to meet me and he ended up asking me out (had no interest in the room and never moved).

Using your looks in marketing business seems reasonable. Marketing is about using all assets at your disposal.

However using only your looks in dating could attract men where looks are the primary thing with them. And that could lead to trouble down the road.

Yes. Especially since I have a very youthful, childish face (I look younger than I actually am) and people that do not know me perceive as a cute, lovely girl. I also like to put on a lot of makeup and dress up a little more to look more my age. And yes, I've gotten out of a lot of trouble for looking cute. Also I find that my voice helps when I ask someone for a favour, because I have a pitched, melodic voice. I don't think it is wrong to use your capabilities, and if you appearance is an advantage, go for it.

If you don't feel degraded I see no issue; unless your SO doesn't like your boss talking to you that way or it blurs lines.

I certainly use my femininity in love; men literally want us to, so why would I not? Maybe I'm just pragmatic.

Surely it can't escape anyone's notice that the more patriarchal the society, the more modestly women dress and act? I am not at all pro patriarchy, I just do not see how anyone can claim to be while engaging in this sort of thing. It just seems like if people synthesised their conflicting energies better most of these labels would go away.
