There is a six week training course to become a medical coder, and you only do a few hours of work a day, like two or three. Or you could find something similar in tech support I think. I lot of home jobs only require a few hours instead of a full day. Just a suggestion.

You cannot work from home with a one-year-old without childcare. I work from home as a teacher and my two toddlers and have childcare that comes to the house.

Work from home jobs are increasingly easy to find, but the ones you will qualify for depend on your education level and previous work experience. Try using a website like Indeed and search for words like “remote.”

As for the guilt — you and your family need to be able to eat and keep the lights on. Your first obligation to your kids is to meet their material and emotional needs. If you can’t do that on one income, then your household needs to bring in more income.

The idea of a 1950s American housewife who did absolutely no paid labor is a very narrow perception of what a good wife and mother looks like. Women throughout history were doing some form of paid labor, though generally for fewer hours than men, or they were working a small farm in their yards to provide food to the family.

Don’t allow an ideal, that was only possible for most people for a short period of time, make you too guilty to do what you need to do.

I just quit my state job last month because trying to WFH with a then 15.5 month old was crazy...even with help from my inlaws throughout the day typically. It was extremely stressful, and all my "breaks" were baby related tasks like putting her down or trying to feed her lunch.

If you do find something you like and don't have in-home care, make sure it's something flexible and where you don't have to be on the phone or conduct meetings a lot. Even drafting court docs was hard, especially once my daughter figured out how to turn off my monitors and laptop while i was in the middle of something.

You can't work from home with that young of a child without some sort of help. I work from home, and there's absolutely no way I can get anything done without my 3-year-old being in daycare or family watching him if he's at home.

As far as guilt, you have to do what you have to do to live and provide if you have to. If that means you need to work temporarily, then that's what needs to be done. Think of it as a blessing that you live in a country that has remote positions where you can make money from your own home and help the household. Women in countless other countries would love to be in that sort of position instead of not being able to do anything to financial help out.

The SAHM who doesn't have to work and whose sole responsibility is children, the husband, and the house is not the majority of women for a reason. Either because it's not financially feasible for most families or because some women get satisfaction and fulfillment from having other responsibilities and contributions outside of the house/children/husband.

It takes a village to raise a child. That proverb has a good bit of truth in it. And being lovingly watched over by professionals for a few hours a day will not hurt either. With the pandemic raging and distancing enforced it does children good to at least have that option.

Like others have said, a one-year-old is going to need some supervision while you work. Consider reaching out to work-from-home friends and ask if they would be interested in letting their nanny or home daycare watch the child if you pay them a few hundred dollars. Casual arrangements like that are usually the most affordable, flexible, and accesable. Daycares centers are massively booked up right now and are often so expensive they may cost more than you earn.

your not going to be able to work at the same time as watching your one year old. I work and I teach virtually online in the mornings or evenings or on days when my husband is off I also sell vintage clothing.

I have a friend who makes decent money doing apple support from home, and you don't need experience to start. She has 6 kids, and likes it because you basically get to choose when you work, like Uber.

This might be more work than you’re looking for: I know SAHMs who have opened small home-based daycares. If you live in an area where childcare is expensive, this could be a great way to make money while still prioritizing child care. That said, it’s a ton of work!!

Could you get out a day a week, even? You could register as a substitute teacher in your state. Most of the time they don't have requirements on how often you work. Look up any degree requirements in your state.

Your guilty feeling is correct. You will not be able to perform your mother and wife duties to the best of your abilities. Nobody can do their best when trying to do 2 jobs. Just ask yourself if the money is worth the sacrifice. Maybe do it very temporarily and your child and husband won't notice the difference.
