I learned this from experience as a teenager:
Bank account set up at 17 under mom's account as guarantor.
18 and 19 roll by without me taking any action because I didn't think anything of it.
Mom sets up similar account under my crazy sister's name without my knowledge. (Had I known, I would have gotten a new account.)
Bitch sister deliberately writes a hot check to finance her expedition to California to pursue her lifelong dream of being a whore. Both my mother's account as well as mine are emptied of several hundred dollars a piece made even worse by overdraft fees which Bank of America refused to take off.
Mom enables my sister as usual.
Lesson: Trust no one with your money. Even if you can trust them not to do something crazy, that doesn't mean you can trust them not to do something stupid.
EDIT: And fuck BofA and all the big banks. Put it in a credit union.

Don't worry man, this was a tough lesson, but it could have saved you millions down the line. It's guys who don't have this happen to them in their teens who wind up losing half their net worth at 32 when their wife decides she's loves him, but isn't in love with him.

Damn, that sucks. Growing up I learned a similar lesson.
My extended family would give me money on my birthday and Christmas. Every other month I'd get a "hey, we're behind on our __ bill, can I have $50". Luckily my parents always paid me back, but it's a good lesson to learn early on in life that lending money/sharing money isn't a good idea.
Put it in a credit union.
Truth right there. Save up enough cash and you can get a fair amount of interest. Municipal bonds are also really great investments.

This entire situation is the epitome of pathetic.
The man in this example is NOT married to the woman. They're just boyfriend and girlfriend, for maybe two-ish years. She has no job and no assets.
Fully knowing that he is dating a woman with no job and no assets who is completely unable to contribute financially to his life, he signs a lease with her, and opens a joint fucking bank account with her, willingly so she can go write checks and spend his money while he's at work.
Why? Because she's a woman who's willing to fuck him, and when you're a worthless piece of shit man, that's hard to come by and worth any price. This guy's likely spent his whole life not getting pussy, and finally, when he finds a girl, and all she wants is for him to pay her rent and let her spend his money, that seems like a good deal. He fucking knows she just wants him for his money but is pathetically hoping she'll come around and love him if he keeps taking care of her financially.
And he's surprised to catch her trying to steal all of his money at the first sign of adversity. Any idiot could have told him that at the first sign that this gravy train might be in jeopardy, she was going to cash out the entire joint account and run. Any idiot could have told him that bending over backward and giving this woman everything she wanted was a loser move. But when you're a worthless piece of shit man with no self-respect and nothing going for you, buying the illusion of a girlfriend with your hard-earned money seems like a great idea. She might even grow to love you, right?
What a fuck-tard.

[–]PM_ME_UR_KNUCKLES 10 points11 points12 points 12 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Really, she does? A loan to a friend, family member, or SO rarely gets repaid (in full) and it's usually better to write it off rather than potentially starting bad blood over it - a VERY good reason not to give them a loan if you don't want to deal with that BS. Those who shamelessly rely on loved ones for 'loans' aren't generally high quality people. I mean at least be sorry you're asking (not asking why you won't give it up). Good on you for not giving in to her.
[–]Endorsed ContributorrebuildingMyself 5 points6 points7 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Family and good friends get gifts, not loans. Girlfriend will get bailed out of a nasty situation if it's serious and she's proved herself. But the "Lucys boyfriend gave her a down payment for a car" implicating shit test gets laughed at.
Reminds me of a scene from The Shield - where Shane puts a down payment on a Lexus for a two-month relationship, and is mercilessly mocked by his peers for it. An excellent show if you're into corrupt police drama.

Whenever a girl tries to get any sort of money out of you, whether early or late in the relationship, that is when you downgrade her to a plate or just cut her out completely.
LOTS of BP guys, and even some halfway RP guys with decent overall game will fall into this peculiar trap. They are OK helping her financially with tiny things, a lunch here, not contributing for gas money, etc. The girl is feeling you out, these are compliance tests. Next she goes for bigger things, like getting her a new purse, loaning her money for this, and after 2 years or so, these motherfuckers are putting that bitch through law school and opening joint accounts.
You have to say NO to the earliest compliance contests. Like as in, you're splitting a cab fare, a parking fee, McDonalds, etc. If she says you're a cheapskate and leaves, she was never even going to be a good PLATE, letalone a GF.
You're training her to see you as a resource to tap. Sometimes, I'll even make arbitrary demands of her, like if she is begging me to go see some play or some shit, I'll have her buy me tickets, just to fry her whatever's remaining of her gold digger instinct. Plus, it's a compliance test that she passes, teaching her that my time is (literally) valuable.
[–]Lilcheeks 11 points12 points13 points 12 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link
Me and my lady split most things. I make a decent amount more than her so with bills I'll take the heavier load. Without asking though she forks over money for things like dinners and groceries. I don't even care that much at this point because I know she doesn't expect me to pay for things.
A shared bank account wouldn't happen on a cold day in hell.

[–]t21spectre -1 points0 points1 point 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
If you lived with a buddy and you made 60k/year and he made 40k/year would you split the bills 60/40? No, so why are you doing it with your GF? Also, it would not be RP for her to pay part of your rent and bills, that's just being an unrespectable mooch.
[–]Lilcheeks 2 points3 points4 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I see what you're saying. To get back to your first response, I'll point out that I don't really care about "how rp I am". That doesn't mean much to me. I just like this subreddit so I come here.
With regards to the friend splitting money vs the girl I'm engaged to, one I'm not necessarily planning on a long term future with, the other I'm going to be impregnating and living with. The money in many ways is a shared resource. She buys stuff we need with her money, I buy stuff we need... it all kinda ends up the same place. Stuff we both use. It doesn't make a ton of difference since we're not acting individually with a lot of things. With a friend I'd expect a 50/50 split.
[–]Katoska 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
You can be a generous person without being a doormat. The cutoff between generous and doormat is subject to change for each individual. If he's comfortable splitting the spending like 70/30, let him. I keep it at 50/50, but that's just me.
Just be well aware of when your lady starts trying to shrink her portion and stretch your wallet. When that happens, next her so fast her head will spin.

Is your advice to simply never spend money on a woman whatsoever? I'm a bit curious here. Using money to keep a woman attracted seems like not a terrible idea (if you can afford it).
[–]agentapelsin 19 points20 points21 points 12 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Using money to keep a woman attracted seems like not a terrible idea.
But it is a terrible idea.
If she were attracted to you she would be attracted to you.
By "using money" you are simply screwing with the free market so to speak.
If you want to use money to attract women, fuck a hooker.
My current gf has a history of absolute, fucking BP, enablers and to some extent her South East Asian upbringing has instilled in her strong patriarchy that the man should pay for everything.
She calls me a cheapskate for not paying for shit for her or buying her stuff, but where does it end?
Before you know it you will be paying her mums rent, medical bills, and putting her and her sister through college whilst you sit at home and eat ramen noodles.
Feminist want equality for women.
I am more than happy to oblige with that.
Just this week she refused to speak to me for 2 days after a bullshit argument when she cooked breakfast and then demanded that I clean the dishes since "You always want everything divided fairly"
When I dared to mention in response that "'everything done fairly' might include her paying half the rent, or bills, or netflix, or internet, or phone bills"
Apparently this was a completely out of order response on my part and I shouldn't have made her feel bad or unwelcome.
She changed her mind when she realised I was sick enough of her shit to call quits on our relationship and thus end her cushy free ride.
[–]chimpichanga 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
So you are currently paying her half of the rent, bills, netflix, internet, and phone bills?
[–]agentapelsin 4 points5 points6 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I pay the bills for my own apartment, she stays here often.
I would pay the same if I lived alone, plus by retaining financial independence I:
TBF, when I get the phone bill, all the calls to SEA I make her pay for. The rest are all non-incidental costs that would be the same if and when i lived alone.
[–]1KingofRiders 2 points3 points4 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I think you can spend money on her to show value - BUT it has to be a rare occurrence, has to be completely on your terms/not spurred on at all, and should not seem owed to her.
If spending money on her violates any of these at all do not do it.
[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Look man, I understand the temptation. If you make 150k per year, who gives a fuck about wining and dining her to get the pussy? This is a topic I've thought a lot about, because I used to waste minor $ in college to fuck girls. But here's the conclusion I've reached.
The problem is, when you spend money to get the pussy, you affect what mental process goes down in her head. She becomes attracted not to you, but to what she can get out of you. I don't even want a girl to SEE that I have money. I mean, I'm not rich by any means, but I keep a fairly nice apartment and I've had girls who I brought home who were down to fuck, but then they see the shit, and they start getting into courtship mode.
When a girl views you as a resource, she plays the standard "delay sex, initiate commitment / bonding" game. Maybe you'll get sex out of her the first night, but her mind is already in "dating" mode.
That, and it adds up. If you spend 100$ on a chick, and you're spinning a few plates and getting new girls every once in a while, then after a year you may find 10k went towards girls. Maybe 20k. And what do you have to show for it?
I'll tell you what happens when you give into the temptation to use your money to get women. You start trying to use it to positively influence the relationship, hold frame, keep her hooked, etc. You slowly wind up with shitty game, because you relied on status signals to get her home, and you have shitty girlfriend game, because she is fucking you because you drop the occasional gift on her. It does make you feel powerful to do this, so you keep doing it, and then after 5 years of progressively doing this maybe 1% more and more, you find out you're just a beta bucks who gets sex. Yeah, you might be wetting your dick, but you have no natural game, you're dependent upon your life situation, you have no core confidence (only confidence that stems from your status), etc. Women cannot fundamentally respect that. They can fuck a guy like that, but you're not landing any unicorns using that strategy.
Use money to improve your life. Splurge on good quality meats and veggies, work out equipment, a few sets of good clothes. I don't advocate spending your money on things you don't need, I think young guys need to understand how to invest their money, but if you must spend your money, spend it on yourself to increase your SMV, and then let that SMV do it's job.

How many sports figures have been ripped off by those who managed their money?
My uncle trusted the woman he lived with. She handle all the finances. When they broke up, the bank account was empty. So at the age of 60, he was penniless. Then he found out that his ex bought a house. So now he is getting by.
I can tell you story after story. In the end, don't trust women with your money. They will take you for everything you got.
[–]APock 5 points6 points7 points 12 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

I have my account that my check goes into, my wife has her account that her check goes into, and we have an account that we both transfer money into to pay the "house bills" (mortgage, utilities, etc.). There's never more than $2400 in it, because that's what it costs every month. Sometimes there's a little extra, but that gets eaten up on something for the house.
Since we both work, we we have our own money, and even if one of us didn't have a job, it wouldn't be long before we did.
[–]Endorsed ContributorrebuildingMyself 2 points3 points4 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

[–]Clauderoughly 11 points12 points13 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
You can have a shared account, just make sure it's not the account your pay automatically goes into.
My wife and I have one shared account, for all the bills and shared expenses, but we also have individual accounts for respective pay cheques and own expenses.
I just set up an auto transfer every week to kick money into the shared account, and she does the same with her account.
Quick, easy, no mess, no fuss.

Fair enough, I was there in that trap once too.
With his GIRLFRIEND
What the flying fuck? Why would you share something of monetary value with somebody who has no legal / moral binding commitment to you? I could understand if he shared an account with his wife but goddamn, a girlfriend? How stupid could you get?
Share a meal, a drink, bodily fluids or whatever else but not a bank account!
[–]1FloranHunter 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
How legally binding is marriage (to a woman) anyway? Moral though yeah, there's that.
[–]fruitofmyloom 13 points14 points15 points 12 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
I can't stress this enough. Over our marriage, I built up close to a million dollars in cash. Cash because I didn't have time to learn to invest properly. I never gave her access to the accounts and since we had a prenup, I prevented losing my assets by buying her off enough to make it not worth her while to fight an uphill battle that she couldn't afford. Key thing was that her income was a terrible salary and we lived as if we only had 2x her income than mine + hers. This means "lifestyle" was "lol, we're poor". I still live like that, just with nicer cars and better watches.
Had her name been on the accounts, I can guarantee you it would have disappeared a week after she started thinking about divorce.
Now that I think about it, she did try very hard to get her name put onto my parents' house in the year leading up to it. Didn't happen, thankfully.
I knew her since I was a baby. She was my best friend growing up. Families go back at least 40 years.
AWALT.
[–]1independentmale 9 points10 points11 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Not only that, there would have been nothing you could have done about it. With her name on it, it's legally her money. She can pull it all out and piss it away and the courts won't make her give it back in the divorce.
A friend of mine had a joint account with his wife with a home equity line of credit. When the marriage started to go south, he closed the HELOC. She went back in several weeks later, emptied the joint accounts, reopened the HELOC, maxed it out and withdrew it all as cash. The bank told him since her name was on it, too, they didn't need his signature to re-open and, oh yes, he was still liable.
Guess who didn't get any of that money back in the divorce and is still making payments on the HELOC?
She also came back to his house after she had moved out and robbed the place. Took everything of value. Pushed his cheap safe out the 2nd story window onto the driveway, cracking it open. He called the police, but since her name was still on the mortgage and the divorce wasn't final, they said they couldn't do anything.

[–]SchrodingersRapist 2 points3 points4 points 12 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
My ex and I had a joint account solely for bills, and I purposely told them not to issue checks, to issue one debit card to me, and disable overdraft "protection" so the card would be declined if it was used for more than what was I the account. It never had money just sitting in it to take, I would get money from her and put it in the account with my half to immediately pay the rent for the current semester. Bills would be split as they came I and money put intothe account to pay them.
Basically it was an account that only had our living expenses and while she had "access" I was the sole card holder and never told her the account number. It worked out well for three years and when she inevitably went psycho there was nothing for her to take in that department from me. Also allowed me to prove what her "half" of rent had been through showing the checks deposited to the account for those years when she attempted to skip out on her responsibility. Just be fucking smart and in control of the important shit. Keep records of that shit and dont give them access to more than you are willing to lose.

Sounds like the scene from Casino when DeNiro is rushing to the bank to stop the withdrawal!
God damn watching the smartest fucking guy who can run a casino even trust that blonde whore with his money still makes me cringe to this day.

The question here is why'd he put money into the joint account that he can't afford to lose.
And since we're on the topic I'd rather pay hookers because you can switch when you get tired of the same one (if you're paranoid like me and would rather stick to the one that you know isn't a cop). This is just plain retarded.
And if you need emotional attachment beyond bros? Get a dog. Dogs are awesome.
[–]Abbrevi8 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
The first thing many of my co-habbiting friends (or rather, their girlfriends) did when they moved in together was get a shared account.
[–]Endorsed ContributorrebuildingMyself 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I think the only way you can pull it off is if you live together, she's not on the lease, you pay bills together, and need an account that you both put in an amount to pay bills with. If she cunts out and drains it, it would only be half the month's bills. Otherwise, it's best to keep yourself protected.

May I ask why You guys must use redditlog? How can I get to the original post from there so I can comment on it? As a community we need to help the ones in need. A man who doesn't need help will most likely never change his ways, but someone like this can definiitely take some advice.
[–][deleted] 12 points13 points14 points 12 years ago* (4 children) | Copy Link
We don't direct link to other subreddits to avoid being accused of brigading - flooding the thread with redpillers to comment and vote. This is to appease the powers that be who hate this sub and would take any excuse to get rid of us including "brigading."
Note: SRS is free to link to other subs and brigades all the time, because the site tacitly supports what they do, while we are hated.
The redditlog shows you the subreddit, the time stamp, the title, the OP username, etc. Unless you are incredibly lazy or stupid you really do not need a direct link to find the thread.
That being said, don't be a Red Knight:
As a community we need to help the ones in need.
No we don't. Don't try to "save" BPers. They can only realize the truth on their own. Subtle comments and questions can help nudge them, but you will only make yourself look like a fool.
It's like if you went back in time to ancient Egypt and walked around telling everyone how their gods aren't real and they live in primitive ways. You would be right, but everyone would think you are crazy or hostile. There is nothing to gain from being a Red Knight.
[–]Lets_get_Medical 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
there's a difference between recruitment and showing someone a different path exists. We are a minority, yes we grow slowly, but 20% of the subscribers here make up 80% of the legit content. our community is not whole. With this being said, most of reddit has a close minded idea of TRP and they love to state their partial opinions about TRP and Say whatever and link to here all the time, so people come in here with negative mindset and leave thinking we are completely wrong. Even so, when we may not have what they want to see, I feel we are not making many posts about improvement anymore, and posts are just about entitled TRPer's posting how this person is this and that etc etc..
[–][deleted] 4 points5 points6 points 12 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
You will have the opposite of the intended effect if you go into threads like that to "spread RP truth." If you do it at all, like I said, it should be subtle comments or rhetorical questions, and you should not use the lexicon of this sub at all. Any words like hypergamy, hypoagency, etc. will be met with hostility and no one will listen to you. My point is to tread lightly.
You seem to think the negative and incorrect publicity is a bad thing. Au contraire, every negative post or comment about TRP results in new subscribers, because the people come in and some say, "Wow this is different than what they were talking about."
our community is not whole.
A nonsense assertion. We are not a "movement" trying to swell our ranks as much as possible.
It seems like you're just bent out of shape that reddit hates us. It doesn't matter. Don't try to save people. Morpheus didn't strap Neo down and force-feed him the red pill, he gave him the choice. You can make RP comments but you can only show them the door, they have to walk through it.
[–]Lets_get_Medical 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
I'm more bent out of shape by the fact that I feel the community is saturated with people who throw off the image of TRP. Now I'm not a full-blooded Red piller but I see the holes and things that are missing.
Throw off the image relative to what? What you imagine it should be? Contributing content will have a better impact than red knighting into a wall of downvotes, burying your comment in some relationships thread. It doesn't work.
[–]unlimited_power 4 points4 points4 points 12 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link
I think it's so, on all the threads like these, we exactly don't go rushing over and commenting. If this kept happening, reddit would eventually bring the hammer down on r/TRP.
[–]Lets_get_Medical -2 points-1 points0 points 12 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
so the average trp user is putting that much consideration and thought into the effects of linking to other communities/subreddits?
[–]unlimited_power3 points 12 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link
I don't understand your question. But it's a rule: http://www.reddit.com/r/TheRedPill/comments/1woc2r/mod_posting_rules_2014_update/
[–]1independentmale 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Absolutely, yes, we are. This matters. We can't be rushing into other threads and dispensing our wisdom. It isn't wanted, sadly.

LOL you really hit some people in the feels with this one. The responses to your story that have 16+ posts show this. While I personally wouldn't endorse your actions, I think it's hilarious. The bottom line is - a lot women are actually attracted to this type of behaviour. I have to say this: watch your back if you get back with her. Women can hold grudges and do some crazy revenges.
[–][deleted] 46 points47 points48 points 12 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link
This isn't redpill at all, this is you being a fucking prick. Seriously, unsub from here if you think this is what we're about. While you're at, break up with that gf of yours and do her a favor because you're using her.

TROLL
Becoming the bigger woman in the relationship is not a solution.
Retaliation against women is not a theme of TRP. We know better. You cannot out-snark, out-sham, or out-extort a woman. Women are unbeatable at their own game. Giving her "a taste of what it's like" is a foolish endeavor. You should have given her "a taste of something better."
[–]Sandkasten -1 points0 points1 point 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I am sure that was your plan, give her a taste of her own medicine.
So she was paying for you while you had fun with friends and getting your dick wet? Let's just change the roles here.

[–]pcadrian-1 points 12 years ago* [recovered] (3 children) | Copy Link
Maybe. I would expect her to do some of that ruin-your-life female revenge shit after this. They can be quite good at hiding their intentions, because their actions are backed by emotions, making everything look genuine. Look at all those women who cheat on guys and INSIST they did nothing wrong - no guilt felt whatsoever.
[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Just like there are beta guys, there are also beta girls. Look at all those women who are in abusive relationships. They submit to the man's frame and is under his control.
They are good at hiding their intentions, and their actions are backed by emotion. But recognising that, you can anticipate what they are going to do and cover your bases.
What you are suggesting is to not play. I'm suggesting that by having a good offence and defence, you play and win.
What you are suggesting is to not play.
No, I say play but be careful.
