The KEY to skincare is starting early ie preventative measures.

Start using retin-a (active ingrediant tretinoin); it is prescribed by docs for acne or to help with scarring but is excellent for anti-aging. Won't miraculously change your skin but has many benifits and overtime it will pay dividends.

Vit-C serums also and certain supplements. But retin-a for sure is an easy one to get and use.

1) Hot shower - do not wash face to leave oil on face for shaving

If you have dry skin this is a terrible idea. It will rape the little oil your skin has anyway, and even moisturising will not help undo the damage (you will have to keep applying the shit to mask your lack of natural oils.) Do not do this if you have fair skin. This may work great for people with more oily skin, but for a dry skinned dude this will only make your skin problems worse. Dry skinned people need cooler showers to avoid their skin flaking off and losing essential oils.

why do you exfoliate after shaving? the razor blade has already exfoliated part of your skin.

You should do it before shaving.

The problem with the OPs advice is that he is sharing a routine he developed for his own skin. That routine will not work for everyone! Everybody on Earth has different skin. The first two subreddits will teach you how to develop a shaving and skincare routine that is guaranteed to work for you.

As /u/IllimitableMan has already pointed out, some will get dehydrated skin from OPs routine. I am sure the OP meant well, but for a lot of people this will be bad advice!

i dont follow that rule because i dont care enough, but if you are going to give advice about skincare dont tell people to damage it.

And if you've got a beard, trim that shit. It can be full as long as it's neat. That means shave your neck and those little extra bits on your cheek. Wash it whenever you wash your hair and comb it every day. Don't let it get rasta scraggly.

Beyond basic care, shaving appropriately, and having a good haircut, your facial aesthetics as a man are basically set in stone.

It's pretty much all in the structure, which isn't going to change but can be accentuated by picking an appropriate look.

If you have it, you have it. If you don't, you don't. The proportions of your face and the bones aren't going to be changing. If you get compliments on your face it isn't because of your skin care routine lol It means you were genetically fortunate

Better use of your time: Lifting, nutrition. Those actually count with respect to looks.

Edit: It's easy to think otherwise regarding facial aesthetics, because you're using male eyes. We scour female faces for signs of age ruthlessly because we filter them for age, since it's the strongest link to fertility. Applying your assessment to men simply doesn't work because women do not select for male boyishness or youth.

Having a stubble beard that is properly groomed looks great if you have a strong jawline and high cheekbones. I used to have a very full beard that was neatly kept, but it didn't synergize as much as having a stubble . Great advice man.

Genetic acne is definitely reducing my SMV -- I have good facial aesthics that are generally ruined by moderate acne. Going to try these tips and the retin-a. Washing with benzyl peroxide daily has proved insufficient.

I used to have pretty bad skin but I figured out it was due to it being too dry and the dead skin would clog my pores. I tried using proactive, but that made my skin 2x as bad as it just dried it out more. Before going to any harsh OTC or RX products, you need to take time to figure out what's causing your acne/bad skin. There is really no such thing as skin being too oily. You're just more prone to your oils picking up dirt/dead skin and clogging your pores. If you notice you get worse break outs in the summer, you probably have oily skin. If your skin tends to break out more during winter, you probably have dry skin. It doesn't really matter because this will work for both. It's a good natural approach that isn't going to harm you or make anything worse.

Here's what I do in the shower every day:

-Wet face with luke warm or cold water (never use hot water on your face, ever)
-Before doing anything else I put jojoba oil on my face and rub with my fingers. Cleaning your face with a light oil like jojoba will clean and cycle your natural oils. Water wont penetrate oil and you don't wanna break down and remove your natural oils with an alcohol or glycol based product. You want them to be clean and free of any dead skin or other particles you pick up during the day.
-Next I use a deep pore scrub. The Burts Bee's stuff is nice because it's pretty much all natural, doesn't contain decanting agents (drying things like alcohol or glycol), and the peach stones don't harm the environment like other face scrubs with plastic particles.
-Finally I put more jojoba oil on my face and pat dry with a cloth. My skin is softer than most girls, and I wonder if they find that unattractive but it looks really nice.

This regimen is important and works for my skin but my face will still break out if I don't use a fresh towel or sleep on dirty pillow cases. I never use a side of a pillow more than twice. I have four pillows and I rotate them throughout the week.

For complexion consume foods that contain carotene. After a few weeks your skin will change to a more natural tan tone and hide blemishes giving you a clean and even tone. This is basically the same effect tanning gives you however it looks more natural and won't make your face age faster.

My face is better off not shaving. I hated shaving while in the military because it irritated me horribly. Got out after 10 years and no shaving, no problem!

I still work for the Army as a contractor and my beard keeps my face warm outside (where I spend most of my time and on my motorcycle when not working) and protects my face from the sun. The added benefit in Arab countries is I can blend in from afar say if I was driving around Kandahar and when in better places like Dubai they don't look at you as suspiciously.

I have to add at being 40 and a big burly 250 lb. motorcycle club mad man and world tripping Mechanic on secret squirrel aircraft I sure have a baby face if I do shave. That's why my ex-wife and my GF like me this way, Manly!
