If you live in LA and spend any amount of time in Hollywood during the day, you will see your fair share of stars constantly.

It amazes me when I can see a 50+ year old male star walk down the street and say "wow, he's really attractive still" but I'll see a famous actress of 27 and say "whoa, she looks haggard and beat."

I have no idea how California women over 23 even date at all. Every time I step off a plane in LAX there are more starlets arriving by the planeload.

What does Meryl Streep have to whine about? She has 19 nominations for the Oscars and has 3 wins. She is a great actress because she doesn't rely on sexuality to get roles. Same with Sigourney Weaver, imagine what Alien and Aliens would have been like had the director used her for sex appeal rather than conveying a story. As soon as you start sexing up the women in a movie, they start losing all credibility as a medium through which a great story can be told.

Why do we give a damn what actors say? They spend their lives pretending to be other people. No, not other people, other characters, written by people trying to make a buck off the average punter, who in turn is not interested nor often even capable of recognizing reality. An intelligent actor knows this, exploits the system for as long as they can then bows out gracefully taking ever less popular, but usually more mature and thoughtful roles. An intelligent actor knows that none of this qualifies them to make any observations on "normal" life, because that life is far, far from normal. To complain is human, fine, but I am no more interested in an actor's complaint than I am in that of any man in the street.

That said, Anne Hathaway is a fucking babe. 'Love that smile.

Wait, what? Hathaway is doing the exact opposite of rationalizing (or hamstering) here. She is perfectly aware that she has no cause to complain, she is just saying that it's fucked up that a role written for a 50 year old goes to a 24 year old because it is. That is just stupid. It's always annoyed me that in Hollywood, every post-pubescent character looks 25 even if they're supposed to be 15 or 50.

That being said, Crowe makes a great point - accept that your time has passed. Don't try to play an ingenue when you're 45, or even 35. It's ridiculous and you're just embarrassing yourself.

I actually agree with her that its unfair that she can't get roles anymore. The thing is life is unfair.

Men get sexualized by women, women get sexualized by men. Men don't find older women as attractive. There are exceptions (Selma Hayek still is amazing looking, same with Monica Bellucci the new bond girl). Women don't find younger men attractive. Its why men in their 20s are much more likely to be single than women (source: http://jonathansoma.com/singles/).

Look at men in movies. 20 somethings are forced to play Jonah Hill "butt of every joke" type roles or "high schooler". Sure the occasional younger man makes it through (say a Channing Tatum or the Twilight people) and is sexualized by younger and older women, but they are few and far between. We see men more like Clooney, Pitt, Crowe, etc. More recently its Ben Affleck and Matthew Mcconaughey who went from smaller/rom coms that make 40 mill type roles to the oscar winning stuff. Men have to wait their turn. That is just as unfair. In hollywood, sex sells. Hell, everywhere it does. You gotta play the game.

I know that movies and celebrity in general are understandably frowned upon here but they really helped me conceptualize what the wall actually is. I'm a visual learner so seeing women like Anne, Cameron Diaz and others hit it hard really helped me to understand what it truly means. You can read about it all day but seeing is believing. Look up Cameron in the mask and then look at her today. That's the wall personified. And if you really want to see what the wall does look at her dating history. Went from dating arod, Matt Dillon and Jared Leto (and half of Hollywood) to marrying the guitarist from good Charlotte. That's the consequences of the cc and the wall

This goes hand in hand with what most betas don't realize-- a woman's beauty is one of her greatest assets. It is the reason why the wall is utterly devastating for a woman who was attractive in her youth. She loses job opportunities, she loses "respect," she loses the gaze of men that fed her ego, etc.

Not surprised someone like Anne Hathaway is experiencing this.

I don't believe she was complaining in the same sense that Streep or Chastain were complaining. Anne looks like she has her head on straight in this case, and we really need to stop demonizing women for everything they do.

Your analysis is, while I realize you wanted to say that it bothered her, it's not exactly on point. She isn't going around whining about not having the opportunity to have her cake and eat it too.

Stop hating on everything women do. Yeah they are more inclined towards Hypergamy. But that doesn't mean you need to look for things to hate.

When raising a dog, you look to cut down it's poor and reward it's good behavior, so that it is encouraged to be good. You do not vilify it for basically existing.

Part of me thinks this place hates women for existing, and Im also guilty of that. But we really need to become people who can put people in their place just by seeing negative behavior. We shouldn't be consumed with hate.

That was the first step, let's move beyond that.
