Basic summary of the situation described:

  • OP's best friend of 10 years has done everything for OP, including helping out with money issues all the way to bullies and more. There's clearly a strong relationship and bond here

  • OP's best friend is also dating a friend of the OP's sister. OP repeatedly establishes he barely knows his best friends girlfriend

  • OP's best friend has dated his girlfriend for 6 months and cheated on her 4 times during those 6 months. OP tells his best friend that cheating is wrong and he isn't comfortable with it, but as he doesn't know the girlfriend that well he makes the reasonable decision not to intervene and expose his friend out of loyalty. He goes further to say that if the girlfriend was his sister and not some random girl, then it'd be different, which seems entirely reasonable to me and probably a lot more people.

  • So far OP has voiced his concerns to his best friend but also showed loyalty and respect to his bro who has been there for him for everything by not exposing him

So how does the Relationships sub respond?

  • OP should treat this random girl, that he barely knows akin to his own sister and tell her. Very little reasoning is given as to why OP should look out for a random girl the same way he would his sister

  • OP should cut off his best friend of 10 years as his cheating behaviour will "inevitably" spill into their friendship. Again, no reason seems to be given for this argument either

  • To add to the above point, OP is told to "make new friends". As if a 10 year friendship is something that can be replicated easily

Its scary to see that people actually take advice from this sub.

It's utterly absurd to really suggest that people like the OP in such situations should just jump in to every situation where cheating or some other issue arises in order to do the appropriate thing. Cheating isn't right but human relationships are a lot more complex than this... There's so much blue pill 💊 in that comment chain that it's really eye opening.
