I went to see X Men: Days of Future Past last night and before the movie starts, after the commercials and ads, I was forced to watch a bunch of celebrities tell me not to rape women.

Thank you, Benicio Del Toro, because of this ad I am forced to watch, I won't be raping anyone while watching the movie.

This is what it has come to, overpaid men objectified for their looks telling people there to see what is essentially a kid's movie, not to rape women. Then they wonder why people don't take this shit seriously.

Surprisingly lucid commentary on her part. The fact that she grew up predominantly around men (brother and father) likely means she got insight into the male perspective that most women don't. I doubt most women will see things this clearly.

Incidentally, this is why men need strong male friends. You can almost never expect a woman to understand how difficult it is to be a man. They'll simply look down on you. Any attempt at expressing it comes across as weakness. A group of strong, like-minded men is what every boy needs growing up.

its a rare occasion that i agree with a self labeled feminist. if she was the face of the feminist movement i would consider labeling myself as one. until the political ones get their heads on strait i will be calling myself an egalitarian.

Good find. Very idealistic in her advice to be shamelessly open and expressive (I think we all know that women are not turned on by that in the slightest) but handles both sides of the issues quite deftly. She also seems to grasp better than most women out there what it is like to live as a man and the constant pressures that a man faces.

Good narrative and closer then any other feminist has come so far. She's still stuck on the "we need to teach men to express feelings" train and doesn't quite understand that the ones doing the teaching are women's sexual desires. Men act the way they do because they are taught that is what women respond to. If you want to change the actions of men, you first need to change what women are sexually attracted to and limit her natural desires. You know, what our grandfathers and great grandfathers did in era of "patriarchy".

It's good, and has a much more clear-eyed picture of things as they stand, but notice that despite her (understandable) call for action over talking, she doesn't have much concrete action to suggest. This is not a criticism of her, because I don't think there's much women can do (aside from refraining from slutting it up. But that doesn't spread so well).

Real change will come from men. It is men who could have helped Rodger if he'd found them, it is men who will set examples, it is men who have the ultimate decision as to how attractive they will be.
