Last night I got really drunk for no real reason, and my wife finally called me out after she caught me drinking straight from the vodka bottle. This has been a problem for me for years and it’s known to my wife and most friends. I’ve been forgiven in the past when I got too drunk but her catching me last night was the biggest embarrassment. I didn’t even remember it until I woke up and found her on the couch and she told me what I did.

I know I need to stop this behavior and I should have years ago. I know I need help but don’t know where to get it. I don’t want to go to rehab or AA at this point, but I need to get this under control.

My question is how much of this struggle should I share with my wife? She’s stressed enough with work and kids and can barely handle that, so I feel like adding this may be too much. I want to be honest with her but don’t want to overwhelm her. I was barely skating by with my drinking problem before but now it’s clearly out in the open, so I have to change something. I wish it was as simple as “just don’t drink” but it’s not. I think she could help me if I could talk to her about it but I don’t know if she can handle it or would even care to. With our history this may be the second to last straw before she leaves me. Things have generally been better for the last couple months after I got the ILYBINILWY, but I really fucked it up last night. Is there a way to talk to her about it without stressing her more, or what other option should I pursue?
