I was talking more about how extremely different everyone can look, in terms of age, given their genes, the food they ate/how nourished they were and even nationality/ethnicity.
Men from India/Pakistan regions typically look far far older as they grow a full beard faster, as an example.
Some teens/younger women look older than you’d expect - by no means am I saying this is grounds for it being normal to date someone under 18 when you’re older than that, rather I’m simply pointing out that the best way to check and make sure you’re not doing something quite literally illegal is to check their age, but even then, fake IDs exist unfortunately.

Good luck with that mate. Girls use makeup and and certain clothing to look older or younger and there’s not much you can do about it. All you can do is ask and if you get a negative response or hear she’s too young, just say “my bad” and move on. And lastly, try not to listen to the all the people labeling you a creep or pedo. There are plenty of times in which girls will date someone more than 10 years older and they don’t get as much flak as you do. As long as both individuals are over 18 and consenting, I really don’t see what the issue is.

Very easy:
Ask her where she went to school, what she studied, and when she graduated. Normal conversation topics and if she says she already graduated, you're golden since that means she's at least 21+ since most people start uni at the age of 18 and graduate 4 years later.
If you only care about her being at least 18 and don't really care about her actual age, then just the fact that she's in uni means you're good to go (with the exception of her being in her 1st year - see below). However, if you want to know her exact age, then ask her what year she's in and do the math to guesstimate her age. You can also guesstimate her age if she's already graduated by adding the difference in years from today to her graduation year too.
1st year likely 17-19 2nd year likely 18-20 3rd year likely 19-21 4th year likely 20-22
If she's in her 1st year, then I would caution to go further and just ask how old she is at that point. And if she says she's still in high school, well you already have your answer there lol

Yeah. But if they're exclaiming it in a defensive way then what they mean is they are repulsed by OPs behavior, most likely indicating the child is actually a kid kid and not someone who's around the age of 20.

Exactly, you really can't know someone's age. Underage people are still able to sneak into nightclubs, and it's rare but not unheard of to have 16-year-olds or even younger starting college. A simple 'Are you over 18, is all you need?' If you want to be clever or tricky about it, you could do something like say, 'I heard there's a big jackpot. I usually don't gamble, but I think I'm going to buy a lottery ticket. Are you going to buy one?' If she says, no, then say, 'Why not aren't you old enough? You're over 18, aren't you?' On the other hand, if she says yes to the purchase of the lottery ticket, then say, 'Really? You've got to be 18 to buy one, are you old enough?' Anyway, no matter what the person says, you'll be able to figure out if they're over 18 or not unless they can see through what you're doing and use deception, but it's very rare for a young person to have that level of sophistication.
