So I'm out of a 7 year marriage and haven't dated in ages. The guys I work with insist that if I don't buy girls drinks I'll never have any luck. I remember reading here that it's a bad move for several reasons... Anyone care to refresh my memory as to why that is?

Also, I've been a member at OKCupid for a month now and have 3 dates this week with very attractive ladies through the site. It's just awesome and I'm having seriously good luck there. Anyone else have any luck with that dating site?

Thanks for your time.

EDIT: Here's the reply from some girl I told over email on OKC that I don't buy girls I don't know things (drinks, dinner or whatever)... Let me know what you think.

"I never kiss on the first date. What if I don't like the guy? I don't want to have to deal with the whole, "Um..you're nice but....I don't want your tongue in my mouth speech." I think it's a bit presumptuous to expect that on a first date and a blind date no less.

As for the drinks, it just comes off as you being a cheap skate. I dated a cheap skate for 3 and a 1/2 years and it was truly annoying. I'm very good with my money so I understand it but I'm a girl....we like to be wined and dined. It makes us feel special. There's no other explanation for it. It's not about the money for me, it's the gesture. I'm not a materialistic person at all and I reciprocate with gestures frequently, but when someone tells you before you've even met them that they aren't going to buy you a drink, I don't know....that's just a new thing for me. Never had a guy say that to me before meeting me. Ask any female; it's kind of a red flag.

At any rate, I don't care about that. I'm a big girl who makes plenty of money. I can buy my own drink on our date. It's just new....never been on a date where the guy didn't pay. That should tell you something, no?

BTW, nice award....trying to attract me some men?? Have you decided against me already?? ha!"
