Myth #1: PUA is about deceiving or manipulating women.

Reality: The only lies ever preached here are in the form of innocuous openers that you can do without. They're silly paradox stories that get a conversation going. I (and I think most guys here) going with my own openers anyway. There are also general outlines for how a good conversation should go and fun little party tricks like what the rings on a girl's finger supposedly mean. But NEVER have I seen anything like, "Pretend to be rich/pretend to work for the CIA/pretend to have feelings for her/tell her the world's going to end if we don't have sex RIGHT now."

Myth #2: PUA is a magical key to mountains of sex-cess

Reality: It takes a lot of painful real-world follow through if you hope to achieve any kind of results. Rest assured ladies and gentlemen, this isn't as powerful as you had feared (or hoped).

Myth #3: PUA is about misogyny

Reality: Nothing in here demands you treat women as less than people. That said, some PUA men are misogynists. Some are bitter and want to angrily fuck all womankind. They're there, and some of the material here can attract that, but it's not necessary and by any means it's counterproductive to success. Other than that, men often talk a certain way when women aren't around, especially in anonymity, and it's generally more harmless than it looks. Men sit around and say, "Man, women, they're crazy to deal with." Women sit around and say, "Hey, men, they're crazy to deal with."

Myth #4: PUA is about bringing a girl's self esteem down through "negs".

Reality: PUA is about bringing yourself up and wanting to give her a chance to join that. The neg is a playful tease, like "you're a dork/You're drinking a Corona at a beer snob's bar? Fail!". If you've actually hurt her feelings, you've done it wrong.

Myth #5: Guys get into PUA for mountains of pussy.

Reality: Some do. Most just want to figure out why they're so damn defective and how to fix it. Most guys I know just want to land a girlfriend that they like.

Myth #6: PUA is learning to be a salesman for something people don't want.

Reality: For guys that don't have their Inner Game together, this may be the case, but you do so much better when you can approach an interaction without a goal in mind other than having a good time. Getting a [girl's number/kiss close/fuck close] only works if she's already interested in you. There's no point in making the offer if she didn't already want it.

Myth #7: Women who have read techniques/openers/PUA material are immune since they can just call a guy out on it.

Reality: A lot of guys do bail when called out, but if you're confident in yourself, you'll go with the energy of the movement and turn it into a conversation about the opener or PUA itself. The concern is the feeling the woman now has feeling that she's being manipulated. If you can be genuine and show her a good time, she will be able to see that it's not the case. I mean, at some level, you are doing what you're doing to attract her, but if she's not interested, a good PUA will not persist. The only true way to inoculate yourself is to angrily declare that you're not going to have any fun. In which case, best of luck to you in your life.

There's potential for abuse, of course, and different people go different ways with this, but at its essence, PUA is amoral, not immoral. And I honestly think that going the moral way works better anyway, and is certainly more sustainable to you.

Any other myths, chime in.

EDIT: Someone posted a good one

Myth #8: PUA only works on dumb, vapid, immature, low quality, etc women.

Reality: PUA only works on women who like to talk about [relationships/movies/books/themselves and their friends/how girls act/why guys act how they do/popular culture] and who like confident, fun men that lead the way to a good time. Basically, it only works on people that are human.
