A wise man once said...
Looks aren't everything. They are just 70 percent

I think "Looks don't matter" means that extremely sweet emotions that are the basis of attraction between genders are not generated exclusively by physical appearance. It's a complex combination of traits that deeply affects hormonal system at a particular time.
[–]jsbach123 96 points97 points98 points 3 years ago (23 children) | Copy Link
Nobody has said looks don't matter.
The only difference is, men are more critical about a woman's appearance whereas women are more forgiving over a man's appearance. That's why men watch porn way more than females.
Conversely, men are less critical about a woman's personality whereas women are less forgiving about a man's personality. She might not care if you're not super hot...but she's not tolerating your shit social skills and weak behavior.
For men, I agree that unless he has a severe deformity, any man can look decent through working out, dressing well and having a great haircut.
I remember me and my male buddies had to attend a friend's wedding. Normally, we look like shit because when hanging out, we don't care how we look. But when we were at the wedding, I thought "wow, those dudes look pretty sharp".

Bro my last account legit got banned because I made a post asking how I can utilize the fact that I'm handsome most effectively. The mod message was basically ranting at me that looks don't mean anything and that I was wasting the sub's time with that question.
[–]THAT_LMAO_GUY 8 points9 points10 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Ill answer your Q here.
Find a few ways to translate handsomeness into concrete social status. e.g. find a way to do a small amount of male modelling. That will mean you can DHV with "I did a modelling shoot a while back and XYZ thing happened <change subject>". It also means that any woman dating you can brag to her friends. Always give things women can brag about to their friends with - you are diong them a favour.
You will likely get lots of tinder matches compared to what is normal. As a result its an even greater ROI to get something like Tinder Gold.
If you have a handsome face then in some lighting it will make you look incredible. Cheek/jaws with shadows. It accentuates your look even more. Figure out those lighting angles.
These are only small tips I guess. Its better to just follow conventional advice and get good at game. If you have an excellent product and weak sales then address the weak sales

Women are less critical?! I call BS. Look at the shit on dating profiles especially about a man’s height or if he’s bald or balding. Yeah, total bullshit and we know it
[–]jsbach123 3 points4 points5 points 3 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link
I just answered this when someone else brought up this point on this thread.
It's pretty sad you judge women from how they act on a dating site. Because clearly, women on a dating site don't represent women in general. On a site like Tinder, men outnumber women by at least 20 to 1. So no shit women have the upper hand.
I suggest you get out in the real world more.
[–]Knightmare560 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago* (7 children) | Copy Link
The online world shows how men and women really are. They reveal their true selves the way a person does when they’re drunk. Now I see that women and men truly are equal cuz they both are the fucking WORST.
[–]jsbach123 6 points7 points8 points 3 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link
You are cynical as fuck if you think people in the virtual world are more real than the real world.
[–]MagicSpoon102 5 points6 points7 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
He’s just saying they’re showing there true colors is all. That’s their reality. He’s right. But not everyone is gonna act the same in real life. Safe behind doors.
[–]Knightmare560 2 points3 points4 points 3 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
I’m a realist. People show their true selves cuz their safety behind a screen. A white man can be racist online cuz in person he’d get his ass beat if he was alone. Anyone can bully or rant or say their darkest thoughts cuz nobody is there to stop them. Humans show their true selves online. Cuz they know they can get away with it if they hide their personal info. True human nature exposed. If all humans could see what everyone they knew said about them online…true societal collapse. Realism. Humans are savage in nature. Only a handful of men and women are good.
[–]ParksFarce -2 points-1 points0 points 3 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
Bingo. People absolutely show their true selves online especially on dating apps. It's easy to be angry at people about it and I certainly was for a long time but now I realize every bit of it is my fault and I should be angry at myself. And I am. If I had been more forward and tried more in my teen years I might have it better when it comes to dating.
Now I'm in my 30s, short, bald, autistic, small penis, ok social skills but still not enough to compete. I get the real high value men's leftovers until they want her back and she runs back because his dick is better n he makes her tingle. That is my fate as far as dating goes and it's my fault and thank God they make drugs or I woulda killed myself many years ago.
[–]Knightmare560 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
In terms of the dick thing…scientifically speaking it doesn’t fully matter. For starters, the part of the vag that causes orgasms is in the first few inches of the entry way. Also a female can have more than 1 type of orgasm. The clit. A clitoral orgasm. You have more tools to use in the arsenal like the mouth and fingers. Researching and studying the female anatomy certainly helped me and if there’s one thing I’m confident about is my bed skills cuz I’m an eager to plz kinda guy. I want her to be happy and have fun and am grateful enough to have a woman give me a chance. There’s also things she cannot fake, like a reflex. By studying the reflexes, you can see whether or not what you’re doing is working. All women are wired differently like us guys but there’s key similarities as a good start. and always communicate of course. But I’ve been told I have a “godly mouth” and “holy shit you mean you actually KNOW what you’re doing?!” And one who said “omg…I’m out of breath and gonna have a heart attack”. Rare hookups but at least they were happy.
So do that. Make her so satisfied by doing the research that she will see you as a man who actually cares how she feels during sex. The best sex is when you both focus on pleasing your partner rather than yourself
[–]ParksFarce -5 points-4 points-3 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Please don't tell me "it doesn't matter" it's bullshit and we both know it. I have met plenty of women who don't like getting oral and just want that dick and since I'm not doing anything in that department I'm useless to them. Not to mention plenty of people are impatient and women are among those people. So they're not willing to "work with me" and take a little time for me to figure out what they like and why would they? Plenty of dudes out there know what they're doing cause they're more experienced than me. Who's fault is that? Mine, for not being experienced enough. Gaining that experience takes many years and many rejections and many humiliations and I do not think I can withstand all of that. Too much fucking pain. I appreciate your reply tho.
[–]Knightmare560 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Not if you know how to use it. You can study everything, even motions. And again, it's the first few inches of the entryway. even a 4inch dick would be able to reach that in missionary. Experienced? Dude, a guy can have 100 women and not make one of them happy sexually. During my FIRST act of intercourse, I had already studied the anatomy. Heavily actually. And when it was done, both of us were sweaty and she was looking at me like I wasn't real. Said "I call BS. No way is this your first time". But it was. It's a science. Study the anatomy. Or even check reddit cuz some women openly state what they like and even give great advice. Some even say how they don't care about size if you know how to work it.
[–]NeonFizzyXD13 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
You can't judge personality that well on dating apps, and looks matter when it is being compared to a pool of men that also nothing much to show for besides looks. No one is comparing your looks the same way IRL.
Nothing much to show? We aren’t all using bathroom mirror pics lol. And look at women profiles. “Just ask”, “I’m bad at messaging first”, “no drama”, “I’m just here for friends” Translations: “I’m a boring bimbo who wants to go by based on looks and expect u to do the work” “I’m too lazy to make the effort so you start the convo even though I’ll likely leave u hanging for fuck knows how long” “I don’t care about ur feelings, only mine” “I’m gonna keep you as a friend unless you’re hot enough to bang once”
Seriously women barely try at all while we bust our asses on dating apps. Some of us do stupid profiles for sure, but we totally try harder than the women. Like animals in the world…a male bird putting max effort in a dance only for the female bird to fly off for one more attractive
[–]sidbunch6 8 points9 points10 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Lots of people say exactly that on this sub, tbh! (along with how 'women aren't visual' etc lol. That one always gets a laugh from women when they hear that one)
Truth is, looks is super super important. The best game in the world is unlikely to help if you open a girl who isn't attracted to you on a physical level. Luckily not all girls have identical tastes, and most men are able to get attractive enough to the point that there's likely at least a few decent looking girls who would think you are hot enough
Similarly, if you are 100% her type, you'd have to really do something extremely 'wrong' in order to screw up

I wouldn't assume women on dating apps accurately reflects women in general. On dating apps, men outnumber women by huge amounts. So of course women can be pickier online.
An app like Tinder also naturally filters out "normal" women who generally won't be caught dead on it.

Can confirm your point OP. When I had a bit of extra weight, rounder babyish looking face, boyish looking haircut, dressed like I wore whatever my mother bought me from Target, didn't get much attention from the ladies.
When I got leaner, got a more mature looking haircut, grew out a bit of facial hair, started wearing more flattering clothes, all of a sudden the ladies wanted to give me more time of day.

My problem is I can't find single attractive women. They're either 35+ with kids or sweet and outgoing but in a relationship. It's just super annoying to not even get dates. Rejection is fine and normal it doesn't bother me enough to discourage Me. But my rejects are literally always *sorry I have a boyfriend * if a woman is single and says no it's almost good news because I don't feel like the ONLY single person in my state lol.
I know some people are going to say to just keep working on me but I'm all done with that. I have my own place, car, no debt. I am and have been done with education for like 7 years. Just waiting on the dumpster fart of a housing market to go down lol.
Now that I'm thinking about it, maybe I'm just bored and finding a gf/ wife is just the next step??
I've bored you enough with my rambling, thanks for reading if you did ! Enjoy the rest of your week folks!

Just going to drop in a scenario for you to ponder. When you’ve been working a job for a company and you feel like you’re not going anywhere, do you immediately quit your job or do you stay with your job while looking for work in other companies? If you’re smart, it’d be the latter. Not that much different than relationship imo.
[–][deleted] 6 points7 points8 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Absolutely correct and anyone who tries to tell you otherwise is probably trying to sell you something.
They're not EVERYTHING but they need to find you at least decent looking to have a chance.

If they didn't matter then I would have a match on Hinge by now. I have a completed profile, decent pictures, and I respond to girls' prompts. This does not mean they'll like me.

[–]MagicSpoon102 6 points7 points8 points 3 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link
I think to some girls it is my guy. How skinny are you? If you’re toothpick skinny. Try to gain some muscle doesn’t have to be a lot. You need to at least feel like you can protect yourself and her you get me? Some girls like skinny guys though, but usually if they’re tall. It’s a process.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

[–]MagicSpoon102 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Lucky you’re 6ft like me, Im slim with some muscle I’ve been working. Right now you should just be focusing on yourself not girls. (You can still talk to them though shoot). But they shouldn’t be the main focus. They’ll come when you get yourself right and in demand. Muscle. Depends on how you want to look. Big, Slim. You should feel, look like you could defend yourself in a street fight or do heavy labor. (Every average man you see out in the world can defend himself) Try and get muscle my boy and they’ll try to talk to you trust me. And don’t be someone you aren’t. Be yourself. Example can’t act like a celebrity if you don’t have the cash and the status. That’s why you build it up.
[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
So just focus on building muscle for now and not girls?
[–]adolfotex 5 points6 points7 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Some girls like skinny guys, but I'd say the majority of girls likes someone with a bit of size, wouldn't hurt to put on some healthy weight for sure, I'd suggest doing the recommendations on this guide.
[–]VanillaCider2021 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Let's put it this way - Looks get you in the door
A good looking guy gets more room for error vs average guys.
My friend probably has better game than me, but I am much better looking. I can mess up and the girls will think I am "funny, cute, etc". If he messes up they think he's "weird, creepy, etc". Being good looking makes you "Visually trustworthy", so initially it gives you a chance with most girls.
That being said looks matter way more for guys! How often do you see beautiful women with ugly men? A LOT!
But, how often do you see really handsome rich guys with ugly women? RARELY
I live in Miami and my city is full of ugly dudes with hot chicks.
[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link
The OP has posted a beginner topic, "assumption of physical appearance" post, so will probably get modded. This is a seduction forum, where the aim is to attract a sexual partner IN SPITE OF looks.
Besides, you can't change how your face looks (short of going under the knife), but you can always work out - so do that. You can also dress differently, although I've found that dressing up really dapper actually harms your chances. Additionally you might even consider going someplace else in the world where you are "the type" that people there are after.
Other than that you can't do much about your appearance, so stop worrying about it. Concentrate on seducing despite however you look.
[–]omega05 2 points3 points4 points 3 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
Looks is still something you as a man can work on. Clear up that acne, straighten those teeth, get a haircut, lose that weight, dress like you read GQ, pull up your pants, wear fitting clothes, walk tall, smile.
[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
This, I feel like if you have the resources and time there’s no excuses
[–]adolfotex 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
"Lose weight" is an overused term in my opinion.
For a lot of guys GAINING weight is what will make them physically more attractive.
A leaner face is going to look better than a bloated one. Unless you’re deathly skinny, probably not a bad idea to shed a few pounds.
[–]Dianabayyebii 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

This is one of the most sane post in a while here. It should be pinned.
The majority of couples have matched looks
This is what i constantly observe and my ex partners had facial features similar to mine or a semblance of my parents.
Suzi Malin wrote a book "Love At First Sight" on assortative mating.
Those that say "looks don't matter" are bullshitting or have no observation skills or try to sell you their newest and greatest PUA book/course.
[–]rusty344 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
No one says looks don’t matter outside of pick up artists trying to sell you a course my guy
I also want to add that some people have different standards than others, but even to those people looks still matter, it's just a different spectrum. It's easy to sit there and say looks don't matter when it's not your own problem, as that's generally how it happens. You notice how it's never the people that can't get dates that say that looks don't matter? It's always coming from someone that doesn't have trouble with dating. That's not to say that personality isn't super important. It absolutely is. Looks can get you in the door but personality keeps you there. The problem is, you can have the best personality on the planet but without the looks to get you in the door you're still stuck outside.
[–]Chicagoj1563 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Looks plays a small role. For some girls its more than others, but its not a huge factor. If guys insist on this being such a big deal, then knock yourself out with your limiting beliefs. Your not improving your chances with women by insisting looks matter.
Maximize your looks, and put the rest of your focus on how you communicate with women. Its what triggers most attraction and its whats mostly in your control. Don't be a loser and blame your lack of looks for why you can't do well with women.
[–]Ryakuya 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Being physically attractive in social situations is much like having a handicap in a round of golf. You have to do less work to get to the same end result - less work to wind up in bed with her than your less attractive buddies.
Is it possible to be a short fat ugly smelly weird guy and still pull stunners? Sure, it's possible. Usually men in that category have something else going for them - a handicap that doesn't rely on their looks. Money is a common handicap. Status and lifestyle are less common, but also powerful. Looks are the easiest thing for most men to set straight in a short period of time.
You can't do anything about your height, not really. You can absolutely change your fitness level, your style, your grooming, your smell, your vibe, and your personality. All of these things tell a woman something about who you are as a person. Every time you step out of the house, you are broadcasting the things that matter to you with those attributes (and others). You could overcome low scores in the rest of those areas with a 10/10 rockstar personality with some women, but not with others.
No one with any sort of experience is saying that looks don't matter - they absolutely do. Anyone who tells you otherwise is probably trying to sell you their "six weeks to 100 lays" program and will disappear once the PayPal F&F transaction clears.

You said that most couples are matched. So if looks matter, they only matter to the degree that they match who you're looking for.
E.g. If you want a hot model blonde then you better be a hot model Chad or have equivalent social skills or lifestyle/money..

And I’ve seen fashion models with guys who don’t have any of those things. Except social skills. They know how to make women feel emotions. That’s what matters the most in attracting women.

You’re right. It’s possible to improve. It’s also possible to stagnate for years without progress without significant help. Above average is a reasonable goal, though. People who are stagnating are already above average.
Never listen to advice from someone on what they want. Men and women both have an idea of what they want but they are also easily impressed by things they don’t describe.
[–]dobbs1997 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
They matter as far as your appearance & hygiene, but this whole thing about having to be tall and in shape, nah…also looks are subjective so you may think two people have matched looks but the woman in that equation may think the dude is way better looking than her or vice versa…another thing too is that you’re listening to what women say, & that’s not to say they’re bullshitting or they’re not to be listened to with certain things but when it comes to dating they can say they want one thing but go for the complete opposite. They may say they prefer a dude who’s in above average shape but end up fucking a dude who’s a bit chubby but has a solid mouthpiece and can stimulate her mind..There’s more to it than just the looks.

It changes from women to women. No every women searching for handsome.
[–]hipjdog 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Looks matter, but it's very different for men and women.
For men, there is a lot you can do to compensate for not being generically handsome. Going to the gym, good clothes, personality, style, etc. can all compensate big time.
For beautiful women, a good portion of their life is defined by their looks. Almost every interaction she's had with a man since she was 13 is influenced by it. She will become socialized very early on as people are always approaching her.
For unattractive women a lack of looks or a weight problem is very limiting. She can have the best personality every but it won't matter if a guy is not attracted. I know a few women in my life who have good careers, are smart and fun, but because they are not conventionally pretty they are always single and don't have children.

It really is a played out trope that even that people that preach it don't believe. If looks didnt matter, you'd see a lot more couples where the woman is very attractive and the man isn't.
