Women should be a good addition to your life, not your entire life
[–]JamilsQuestion 2 points3 points4 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Keydifference women. Having yourself a woman and eventually kids can make you feel complete as a man to be able to provide for the ones that make your life happy. The new generation minions of yourself

Settling down with a good woman and having children is what I want. Finding her is difficult
[–]petkoTHEVIKING 7 points8 points9 points 3 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link
Love and sex are a component of a happy life and you absolutely won't have fufillment if those needs aren't met. If you feel lonely, those feelings won't go away until the need is met, it's your mind signalling it's needs to you the same way you feel hunger or thirst.
What people mean when they tell you to not put women on a pedestal is that while it's great to put yourself out there, the pursuit of women should not become your ENTIRE life or take up all of your thoughts.
Sex and love should add to your life, not be your entire life, period. Make sure you have hobbies, goals and friends that also give your purpose. If you are lacking in these other areas, do not expect a relationship to be a magic solution.
[–]CaptainSaveBPD 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
How can i turn off the desire?
[–]petkoTHEVIKING 6 points7 points8 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
You don't. You clearly want a relationship so pursue it. But also self reflect on WHY you feel this way.
Make sure you have other stuff going on and come to terms with where this feeling is coming from? Is it anxiety? Is it insecurity? How's your self worth? Wanting a relationship should not affect these other parameters. If it does, you are likely putting way too much stock into pursuing women.
This is shit you need to explore. And if it's really impacting your happiness, seek some therapy. Lots of people are lonely these days.
[–]DumbestEngineer4U 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Well, if one important aspect of life is unfulfilled, how can you not let it affect you? It’s like would you tell a homeless person to go have some hobbies instead of putting money on a pedestal and making getting a job his sole life purpose? Yeah money is not everything but when you don’t have it, how can you be satisfied with life?
[–]petkoTHEVIKING 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
If you were dying of thirst in the desert, and someone offered you water if you cut off your leg, I'd understand the temptation to do so.
Likewise, the feeling of loneliness being all consuming for many young men is very understandable and relatable.
Doesn't mean it's healthy. Much like chopping off your foot is permanent change for a temporary satiation of thirst.
You still have self agency to develop yourself, and that's a good thing because YOU are the one person that can fix your own problems. No one is going to give you a girlfriend out of thin air. So by all means treat it as a goal to get a partner, but you are actively working against your own interests by compromising on fufillment in other aspects of life.
What you are telling me is honestly a cheap excuse. If you are single, chances are you can think of several ways you may be lacking as a partner... whether that may be your career, your physical appearance, hobbies or social skills. And you know damn well those need to be improved first.
And chances are, unlike a homeless person, you aren't suffering from a drug habit or serious mental illness, keeping you from looking for work.

Having a pet helps a lot, I travel the world solo and absolutely love it too
[–]Throwawayadistance 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
How do you achieve traveling the world as far as money and time goes? Like what do you do for work?
[–]conker1264 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I’m a consultant so moneys not really an issue but time definitely is. Can’t travel as much as I’d like to but usually spend about 3 weeks a year traveling. 2 international trips and some smaller local ones throughout the year

Wanting women as a straight man is a very normal instinct. Why dont you go meet women instead of trying to change your inherent nature?

Affection and sexuality are needs.
Imo you need certain things in life
A kind of income
A social life, companionship
A way to wind down and entertain yourself aka a hobby
Relationships with your preferred sex (unless you are asexual)
Take one of these away and your life is not in balance. Few people will happily make do without one of these.

I think the answer is no tbh.. I’m a 23 year old, straight virgin male, never been in a relationship, and it has taken a toll on me mentally. I try not to wallow too much but I can’t pretend like it doesn’t hurt.. it hurts a lot

Would you mind going into a little more detail regarding women taking advantage of you in a criminal way or is this too personal?
[–]Footsoldier420 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Hey bro, I can relate. I was there once. To answer your question, there is nothing wrong with how you feel. Many men feel this way and many more are unwilling to address it. There's no easy answer nor an one size fits all answer. The things other men preach to you are not wrong but they are not completely right either.
I dont care what anyone says, experience is the best teacher. You can only learn so much from watching and hearing. One must - do - and experience it for themselves.
Every person succeeds and fails in their own way. Your way will never be identical to someone else's. But if you keep trying, you will inevitably find your way. The way will have failures but also success.
The important thing to focus on is courage. Courage is more important than any preachy principle. Pray for the courage to take action toward your desires in life. Never build a negative case against yourself but don't give into arrogance either. Life is a fine line. Life is meant to be lived (experienced) and not spent in the prison of a mind.
I wish you the courage to experience it my friend. May you find the love and happiness you're searching for. Hope to see you at the top of the mountain one day.

I think if you're depressed cause your not with a woman then that's a problem, I'm a happy guy and I have been on an epic dry streak, cockblocking is the root of this, however I had a lot of fun when I was younger, tons of parties, lots of hooking up, plus I studied very hard, but having sex won't make you happy by itself, happiness comes from the relationships you build with people!
[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Ok here's where you bullshit yourself: "Getting with women has always been a tough task for me due to my quiet nature, short statue and below average appearance"
Evidence please. If you don't know this for sure, there's a good chance you're just bullshitting yourself
" i'm trying everything to just keep my self busy through working, studying and working out but the desire to just be kissed , touched or just flirt/ be sexual with a girl is really getting to me."
Maybe because you aren't making any attempt to meet women? What are you doing exactly, and what is happening?
Without this information your head is just focusing on negatives which don't exist - only as mental roadblocks for no good reason. Incidently, nobody can help you either because we have no idea what's happening in the real world with your attempts.
Nobody can help anyone having a pity-party.

Intimacy is a need not a want, sex is a need not a want. Feeling “appreciated” is more of a guy thing tbh. When you’re not fulfilling these needs & areas then of course you’re gonna become depressed because when you aren’t getting your needs fulfilled you become unhealthy. Then you’re in a deficit and it’s your body telling you “hey, we’re not doing ok.” The Root problem here is not about being happy actually No, it’s not hard to be become happy if you’re making sure your needs are being met so that you can thrive and live a more robust healthy, balanced lifestyle.
Too many guys around the world are depressed and anxious they think it’s about happiness & getting a gf but actually NO just audit your daily routine you guys are all wrong because if you lived a balanced lifestyle you will return to your default, optimistic state where you wake up you feel good. Workout, meditate, write your goals, study, invest money, put yourself first & say fuck it I’m changing my life!

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
absolutely not, i just broke an almost 4 year dry spell and slept with another girl a few weeks after that one, i did notice however that i realized the sex was good yes, but it wasn't what i was missing. The companionship, it sucks cuz you see it everyfuckingwhere you look, movies, shows, ads, cologne commercials, all your friends and family, shit watching porn is terrible cuz you'll just be watching it wishing someone would touch you, but personally i don't think you can live happily without companionship
[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Oh yea i absolutely agree with you man, but at the same time i feel that's how every aspect of life is, there's all these ups and downs and sometimes a hand to hold might make a lot of us feel better once in a while knowwhatimsayyyin
[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
To me, yes. Once you teach yourself that all that matters is you and only you, you take your life at a different height. Yes, I agree that you feel alone sometimes, but remember, better alone than lonley.

You’re preaching to the choir with me my man.
I own a dry spell that is old enough to have its own dry spell children by now. Ok, not quite that bad, but you see where Im going. Its a terrible feeling.
But this sub offers some great advice, even some stuff I used many years ago that worked. I just kind of lurk here.

I can’t be happier than a 7.5 without someone I love in my life. Even a casual girlfriend helps but it’s not the same.

i would find it very difficult to live a happy life if i excluded 50% of the population from it. your low self esteem is scaring women away. all you gotta do is be fun to be around and strangers will want to be around you--this includes women. i would push those thoughts of desire far out of my mind and get good at talking and relating to strangers. that helps you realize there is nothing to put on a pedestal; people are just people. perhaps try to talk to women you arent attracted to until you get the hang of it. enjoy their company outside of a sexual capacity. if you can do that, you can do it with attractive women and it will put them at ease. if you're just coming up to talk to them out of sexual desire, they sense it and will only go for it if they're hyper sexual or you are extremely attractive. think of it as a "foot in the door" technique. thats not to say wait a week to let her know your intentions, but do your best to make sure a woman is comfortable/enjoying your company before you escalate sexually.
[–]Puzzled_Nail_1962 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
The problem is, it's like with everything, if you have enough of it or could have enough, it really isn't that important anymore, but if you have nothing, it's all that matters. When someone says, women aren't everything, they're right. But only for them - we always desire what we can't have.
I know this isn't a feel good message, but we're meant to have socials connections, touch and so on. It's totally normal you have that desire and it won't go away.
But this actually doesn't have all that much to do with happiness. You can't get rid of the desire, but you can still be happy. You could literally be starving and be happy, so you can definitely be happy without a woman. And the good part is, that's when they'll start coming, because most likely your looks aren't what's holding you back.

I mean, i’m going through something similar. So what i’m doing is just trying to increase my mental fortitude. You shouldn’t necessarily give up on finding females but perhaps take a break until it doesn’t feel like such a burden. Dating is something that should be fun and putting so much pressure on yourself by thinking of it so much is not doing you any favors. Take a step back, work on your self-confidence, learn to be ok with where you are in life cuz you’re not going to be trapped in this position forever. As long as you eventually put yourself back out there when you feel ready, you’ll be ok. Don’t think about how long it’ll take to get there or when it’ll happen, cuz when it does you’ll just look back at these days and appreciate how far you’ve come. Do the things you love, whether its going to a restaurant, just playing video games or whatever it may be. Look around you and appreciate the things you do have that other people might not. I know its difficult, cuz i’m living it basically, but as long as you do the mental work by getting your self-esteem up and not inflating the importance of finding someone and the physical work, it will come. It will just take sometime and a little hard-work

I think about Women almost all the time lol the world would be a boring place without them.
[–]Rasta-Grandpa 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I actually really struggle with this too. 3 years without sex, and I’m becoming extremely insecure about it. I’m terrified of growing up being lonely.
Life is just ok without women. Otherwise, it is really really boring. I’ve been thinking about killing myself.
I have decent looks and decent height too. I’ve had girlfriends before and I even play in a band/make money/very cultural. But I’m extremely isolated and I don’t know what to do. I’m 26 in an apartment by myself
