Another thing to add. You don't just wanna text a steanger: "hey, wanna date?" That almost never works out. Get some fun vibes going like you said and try to suggest the date on a high note while you talk about something fun. I usually roleplay in text and make a fun date suggestion out of that which doesn't sound like a date. This way you both have fun and she's gets interested in you as a fun person to chill with and you can take it from there.
For me the general text rule is: have fun or get a date. I don't use text to discuss topics or get to know her better, that's for the actual date. Of course, rules are also there to be broken sometimes.
Good post my man!

Then you run the risk of them not replying tho - I’ve had many a girl ghost me when I was slapping my knee with my own amusement. I mean it’s for the best I guess but still, it made me more inclined to go for the clincher ASAP
[–]PrettyLittlePenguin 4 points5 points6 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
There's also this thing of self amusement versus getting girls. For me seduction is so much more self amusement than actually trying to get the girl. If I slap my knew with my own amusement and she doesn't respond on that, chances are we wouldn't vibe all that good in the long term anyway.
[–]FaithInStrangers94 3 points4 points5 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Yeah I’ve learned that over the years
Life is much too short not to amuse yourself and to act as if there’s some clear cut path of action you have to follow anyway
[–]nikgos 6 points7 points8 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
For sure! I haven't tried the roleplaying but it sounds kinda fun. But yeah getting the fun vibes going is what's the most important thing imo. It could get a maybe to a yes.
[–]PompousSchmuck 1 point2 points3 points 5 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link
This. Text to get a vibe, don't overshare (It's for inperson or later) don't talk about boring/negative shit (It sucks), keep some of the cool stuff for yourself (Create interest), be playful (all's good) and get to the point (date).
[–]loofyd 3 points4 points5 points 5 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link
A good example of creating interest ?
[–]PompousSchmuck 4 points5 points6 points 5 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
Youre talking to a girl who reads? ask/tell about one of the many books youve read, but dont talk about it too much.
You're traveling a lot? tell a cool story about that time when you did 30 miles of walking in museums in one day.
You're social dancing? tell her about the time you danced with a 6.5 ft. dude who pretended to be a girl, because he was teaching you.
You're a photographer? tell her about that time you crashed into a cigar bar and ended up doing a random photoshoot with like 7 different people there with free drinks.
Working out? tell her about your first half marathon you ran with a fucking 2L waterpack on your back.
Are you interested in talking to me? because I've done all of the above. Thats how its done :)
[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
All of this. Basically, you’re seeding that you’re an interesting dude who she’d want to date. I’ve started realizing this more, now that I’ve turned 30 and I’m dating a bunch again now that I’m fully vaccinated. Dates don’t flake on me as much anymore because I’m able to (often, not always) hit that sweet spot between “giving her nearly zero to go on/boring”and “overshare, this guy is too much.”
For me, I almost always try to go with short and concise texts (think Twitter). Sometimes I’ll group together 2 or 3 texts but then I leave something out there for her to reply to or comment on, like we’re playing a game of tennis. When it seems like we have a good conversation going and I could totally go on asking her more questions, and vice versa, that’s when I say something like, “You seem cool. Wanna grab a drink soon?”
[–]loofyd 1 point2 points3 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
It's basically about narrating some interesting, rather unusual and/or preferably funny event from your past
Something that could be possibly amusing to her
[–]loofyd 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Ah brilliant
Esp the end lol haha
[–]PrettyLittlePenguin 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Like OP said insta and snap can be good ways. Post stories of you doing cool shit. If you have a fun live, chances are others want in on the action.
Other ways is casually chatting about stuff you did without sounding try hard. This is a balancing act which you need to figure out for yourself.
[–]shipsAreWeird123 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link
Does that actually work?
Everyone whose started roleplaying at me on an app comes across super weird and incel-y to me.
It's cool that it's been working for you, but it's literally one of the cringe things my friends complain about happening.
[–]PrettyLittlePenguin 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link
Yeah I get what you mean. It's a fine art. I talked about it with some friends and usually their texts are quite cringe worthy. I tend to roll with something like stealing a panda from the zoo for our first dates and roleplay a fun scenario around that together with her.
What exactly about the roleplays makes it cringe worthy for you and your friends?
[–]shipsAreWeird1231 points 5 years ago [recovered] (4 children) | Copy Link
I'd love to see an example of your conversation!
What you describe sounds a lot better than what I usually see though. It usually ends up being overly sexual and or a way for a dude to deflect his "shyness" or a weird fix for a comment he perceived didn't go over well.
Like dudes will message something a little weird but fine, and then wait 5 minutes, and anxiety spiral into their internal thoughts about how I'm really attractive and their comments must be weirding me out. It ends up being like a self fulfilling uwu prophecy
[–]PrettyLittlePenguin 1 point2 points3 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
There's no demo's at this moment as I'm in a long term relationship and am of the dating market for a bit or who knows, permanently.
In general I don't do sex talk before there actually has been sex. Roleplays are geared toward fun silly games and that's it. Sounds like you text with specific kind of guys though, maybe there's another problem in that and the roleplays you've seen.

It's ten years from now and we're both rocket scientists working long hours in the lab on a top secret government project. There's obvious sexual tension, and its getting out of hand. Our supervisor has seen the steamy windows, and more importantly operation 'broken sparrow' needs our full attention!
I've decided to grow everything out, hair, beard, nails, I've even transitioned into someone who occasionally wears sandles. I'm going full hobo to get you back focusing on work.
What are you going to do to help defuse our predicament shipsAreWeird123?

With tinder and other OLD, the main thing you're trying to avoid, is falling into a chat trap.
The thing is inexperienced guys can't tell when a chick is just out there for some attention, looking to chat, and never actually meet up. Look around this and other dating subs and it's full of guys talking about "oh we've been chatting for 3 months, but she's never available for a date".
Once you've been doing it a while you can pick up on it a lot easier.
There definitely is a sweet spot for how much you can text. Too much talking and you can easily blow yourself out by saying something she doesn't like (or even her misinterpreting something), too little and she's likely to think you aren't interested.
Another aspect of OLD is she's being flooded with matches, dozens to hundreds possibly. Pushing for a date soon puts you from "random tinder guy" to "Guy I've gone out with once" and that's a huge difference.
[–]shipsAreWeird123 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I agree with this, I don't really think the venue text/insta/snap matters so much as just getting a meetup.

On-Line Dating
[–]Recent_Enthusiasm_35 9 points10 points11 points 5 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
I’m glad I was able to get your new perspective on things. I’ve read mark Manson models as well, and that was thoughtful of you to realize the time difference because I didn’t really take that into consideration. My take away from your post was that I need to be less serious and less by the book. For example, taking a certain amount of time to text back, playing hard to get etc.... it’s just not worth the energy wasted. Granted, that doesn’t mean being super needy and texting them back like a maniac, it just means taking all of the tips and tricks dating “experts” give you with a grain of salt. Less thinking, more doing=less stress and more mindfulness
[–]nikgos 4 points5 points6 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I mean look there are some nuggets of gold in the book and I used to follow it by the word but not everything is gonna be applicable to you. You gotta take into account the difference in the times, personalities etc. After those last few weeks and the realization that I've had I am actually excited to go thru the book again and see if there are other things like that, that I might have blindly accepted as facts that might be hindering my progress. Truth is that the book is amazing as a base but once you get experience and see some things for yourself you gotta change your approach and only keep the things that make sense to you and get rid of the things that don't. Personally for me the texting rule from the book doesn't make sense for me anymore so I am dropping it for the most part.
If you live by the sword you die by the sword - if you get a girl by playing power games and using texting tactics you’ll probably have to keep that sort of thing up to some degree in my experience. Best just to come as you are, and better for your self esteem as well
[–]AJAY_SS 10 points11 points12 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
What I do these days and which seems to work is just keep talking on tinder with a good flow for 3 evenings straight and then suggest a date. I got 3 dates in one week 😅
I think this works as I'm showing just enough interest to get to know each other better, but do not really seem to care to switch from platform.
I also use the line: "you're not on here for yet another chat convo, are you?" Which does well. Lol
[–]Red1791 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Great line!
[–][deleted] 8 points9 points10 points 5 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
Agreed, this get number->text "Hey blah blah what does your schedule look like this week to grab a drink together?" Is bad texting. You will get better results testing the waters, spiking her buying temperature, vibing, getting investment, soft closing and then hard closing. I seen this personally. I also manage to keep leads warm for longer. I don't go for instagrams or snaps tho.
[–]treesplease12 1 point2 points3 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Spot on; you’ve got it nailed 👌🏼
[–]WalidfromMorocco 1 point2 points3 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
You are doing it the correct way. That's what people mean by using text to set up a date. Not too much texting, but not so little.
[–]FaithInStrangers94 1 point2 points3 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Wonder how these girls would respond if they saw you speaking of them as if they were literally business prospects lmao
[–][deleted] 3 points4 points5 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I don't do sales, but i have heard from many seducers/PUAs that there's a big overlap between game and sales ;)
[–]MasterTeacher123 5 points6 points7 points 5 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
I try to set up the in person as soon as possible. But I tend to call and FaceTime more than texting. It’s more intimate and harder to be put on the back burner. If the girl is serious and really feeling me she has no problem with this.
I think the important thing to note is what exactly is the guy texting about? Is it boring bull shit like what’s your favorite hobby? Or is he actually trying to push her buttons sexually.
[–][deleted] 3 points4 points5 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
But how to push buttons sexually in the first text conversation ?
[–]LiveWrath 5 points6 points7 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

[–]towerandhorizon 2 points3 points4 points 5 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
A lot of the "old guard" pickup "experts" are now middle-aged men. Mark Manson hasn't been a single guy running game in quite a while. While there may be some timeless principles to all of this, you have to also account for generational changes, in how people communicate and connect, when applying something written years ago based on what worked at least a few years prior to that. I'm having my own learning curve, as a middle-aged man, understanding how to use things like IG, SC, Tinder, Bumble, etc...when it seemed like it was way easier 15-20 years ago to just walk out on the street and cold approach because there were less distractions for a woman, never mind this whole pandemic, and how that has changed social interaction, in general.
[–]barringtonink 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Have there been books written recently that have more contemporary insight?
[–]towerandhorizon 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link
I've been done reading books/consuming material for a while now...except for stuff that is now specifically related to modern social media and dating apps, as I was going from square one on all of that. So, for general stuff, I'm not sure, TBH.
[–]HitboxOfASnail 6 points7 points8 points 5 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
You're confusing two different concepts.
What Models and other material suggest about the limited texting is assuming you've actually built some sort of in person interaction and then trying to follow up to coordinate dating logistics via texting.
What you're talking about is trying to land a date from tinder, which is basically like cold approaching via text. That's entirely different. If you match on tinder or something and then just send 1 or 2 texts to ask for a date, that's like cold approaching someone in the street and not saying anything except "when are you free to go on a date?"
[–]nikgos 1 point2 points3 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
I get what you're saying and I agree what I was doing before is weird af. But I also mentioned about this working with women I've met in person and kinda applying the same concepts from Tinder there.
My basic assumption is that unless you're insanely good at your interactions (which I am still not) or you're exactly her type (really small chances) or whatever edge case she's gonna be most likely at a "maybe" with you. What I am suggesting is instead of hoping that due to circumstances when you text her you hope that the maybe is gonna be a 'yes' on that particular occasion to try and have a fun, engaging conversation thru text so you turn the 'maybe' into a 'yes' or keep things going if logistics don't allow you to meet in the coming days.
Again I get the advice but I feel like it's mostly geared towards someone who is pretty advanced and as I said I don't feel like I am there yet.
[–]HitboxOfASnail 1 point2 points3 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
One thing that works well for me is to avoid all that bullshit and get ahead of it upfront. What I do is I say from the very first interaction, maybe at the end or whenever i feel like it really throughout the convo, "hey do you a boyfriend? I'd like to take you on a date sometime, can I have your number?"
This accomplishes a few things all at once. First, it establishes if she's availbable. Whether she has a boyfriend or not isnt really the point, but if she's not into you for whatever reason, nows her chance to politely back out, and save both of you form wasting time. Second, it establishes that you're literally getting her number to set up a date in the near future. So when you text her, you dont have to jump through all kinds of dumb hoops to "warm her up". She's giving you a number with full disclosure of what you're going to be using it for.
I've been doing it this way for years and its worked swimmingly. Having a IG and/or snapchat is good for general social game but that's another kettle of fish
[–]18cmOfGreatness 1 point2 points3 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
If you want to know how to properly text the girls then check playingfire dude.
[–]Hmmkey 1 point2 points3 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I think it’s general good advice for guys that get into chat relations that spend weeks texting and not meeting. I had the same experience I got my routines of texting quite a lot but I started to get results, when I tried to text way less my results plummeted. Now I have re calibrated, and I basically have certain milestones I need to get to which can happen in 5 mins or 3 days of texting.
[–]iTopMostly 1 point2 points3 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I’ll take some “engaging text tips” if anyone has some.
I’d agree cold texting is weird or atleast not natural if you’re not flirty or witty. I’ve realized voice notes do an amazing job also because it can convey more than a few words on the screen.
[–]vendetta_vera 1 point2 points3 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I always followed the rule becouse I hate texting so I thought "hey a rule that I won't have problems to implement", but dang it, I see your point and I think you are right. Still I gotta say, sometimes this whole picking up girls feels like a goddam full time job.
[–]LiveWrath 1 point2 points3 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Can somebody give an example of how to be fun while texting? I always fall in the trap of asking default get to know questions. Any example would be great cause almost always I end up getting left on read.
[–]22Process22 1 point2 points3 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
When I went online I started studying different text gurus. They always said to be short and concise. I tried that. Sending long winded messages worked better for me.
They said don’t double text. So I would triple and quadruple text. It doesn’t matter what you do. It matters how you feel about what you do.
Don’t obsess over every. And, this is a process. And if you’re this kind of guy who’s practicing and giving feedback. This means you’re going to win. And you’re going to win very soon. And you’re going to keep winning.
[–]caesarfecit 2 points3 points4 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
This is just a tale of two mediums.
The "only text to sort out logistics" is a rule that comes from meeting ppl IRL and wanting to keep the intrigue and anticipation going. Very easy to over-text in these situations and it doesn't help you.
Whereas on Tinder and online dating apps in general, you must use text game because you don't know that person IRL. If you go into a Tinder match trying to set up a date right away, no small talk, well that's just weird.
[–]nikgos 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I agree with OP in terms of how texting etc is far more prevalent in this Social Media dominated age. It just makes sense to text more, add a girl on Insta/Snap etc and even if you don't land her right away, you can still keep things warm, essentially.
I have a couple questions for OP though: What's your social media like? Obviously you don't have to share a link or anything; I'm more so curious if you have to be part of the 1000+ Followers, Influencer camp to get her attention etc or just have a good profile and consistent presence?
I think we really shouldn't neglect the importance of having a dope, well put together social media presence in helping with social proof.
[–]nikgos 1 point2 points3 points 5 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
Hey mate! No I don't have that big of a social media presence just big enough. I also have a friend who's into photography and he snaps some really nice high quality pics of me that I upload there but I am defo not uploading every week or not even every month. Primarily I am using stories to share things with the people that follow me which is an amazing way to get engagement.
In terms of follower obviously the more the better but I feel like as long as you have over 200 and you have more than 5 posts you'll be good. If you're struggling for followers just message the people that you know that you're getting into Instagram and ask if they use it. Most will. You'll be surprised how many people you know that you don't have on Instagram and then go thru their following list and you'll proly find other people that you know that you can connect with. At the end of last year I decided to up my Instagram game and I did just that and I went from about 150 to 200 followers. Here is a hack that got me to about 350 followers in a few weeks. Go to the Instagram subreddit and you can find lots of people who do follow for follow. I know not everyone is comfortable with that but if you're struggling to get followers this I think is a great way to get some if you feel comfortable doing it ofc.
Also another thing that I started recently doing on Instagram on my stories that is getting insane engagement is to snap two quick pics of outfits and put them on my story and make a poll of which outfit people prefer. That way you can easily see who's actually looking at your stories and who's actually engaging.
In terms of Snapchat. I made an account less than a year ago. After missing on a few women because I wasn't using it I finally decided to make one. Problem was that my score was essentially zero. Reddit to the rescue again. You can find other people who are just looking to increase their score so it doesn't seem weird when you get a snap and your score is less than 5k plus you're learning how to use it when you're texting others. From experience most women I've gotten snap from have a score between 100k-200k and my current score is around 35k which I think is more than decent in terms of social proof.
So I guess what I am trying to get at is that you can easily create a decent social media presence by just doing a few things which leads to having a better profile which can really help you out. Plus you don't need a friend who's into photography to get some nice shots. All you need is a decent phone, watch a few tutorials on how to take better pics and ask a friend to help you out. It's as simple as that.
[–]mightyigor1 points 5 years ago [recovered] (1 child) | Copy Link
Thanks for the insight. There's definitely some Gems that you've shared. I defo think Social Media game is something we neglect on this sub and in seduction, in general. Especially in this new age, it's almost an invaluable tool.
A friend of mine was just telling me a couple months back about how he met a girl irl, they hit it off and when she added him on IG, she was shocked about how trash his social media was and how it didn't reflect how cool of a guy he actually was. She pretty much told him that girls will definitely judge, or at least gauge a guy through Socials these days. So it's been in the back of my head to improve my social media game. I think we need a Seddit guide for this. I really like your idea of getting a girls Socials instead of Number, and you can hit her up anytime, responding to her Stories since there is always a conversation Starter-or conversation reviver-from there.
[–]nikgos 2 points3 points4 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I'm glad you found it useful mate! And yeah for sure right now with COVID you got some extra time to spend in that area and the thing is that after just a few weeks your social media presence could go from 3/10 to 7/10 like it was the case with me and you can hustle a bit longer with it and get it even higher. And yeah you can grab your friend and go out during a weekend and snap a bunch of pics for each other and add to socials. Good luck! :)

Super interesting! I 24f don't give out my number or snap/insta before meeting cause I feel it's not super safe, and usually when that happens I don't end up actually ever meeting up with the person. Instead I end up getting dick pics and harassment.
It's awesome that it's working for you though! maybe I'll have to reconsider
[–]nikgos 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
I find this really interesting. I thought that it's much better for a woman to see a guy's social media accounts so she can have a better idea of who he is. Usually people leave clues about who they are on social media that don't come up in conversations especially over text. I mean sure you'll get the bad apples once in a while that are gonna be total dicks (no pun intended) but by discounting everyone you're missing on some amazing people out there.
Maybe.. usually people who are active will link their instagram anyways.
I mean.. who am I missing out on? the people who decide that they're not interested when I establish a tiny boundary? I'm ok with missing out on those people.
There are hundreds of people online dating near me and more to meet in person. It sucks if I miss out on that one perfect person, but I haven't met a perfect person OLD, and I have had people get my number or Snapchat and instantly turn to harassment.
