I can't get this phrase out of my head. I saw it on Seddit a few months ago and after thinking about it for a while I had an epiphany. I realized that everything we do is fake. In our society, there really is nothing that is unplanned, uncalculated. What I mean is that everyone's social interactions are just manifestations of what they have told themselves that they are over and over.

So for the past few months, I've just told myself that I am awesome. That's it. I used to have horrible self-confidence. But then I just decided that I wouldn't anymore. I made it my goal to convince myself that I am worth something. It was a little rough going in. When you go from avoiding social interaction to just jumping right into faux-confidently chatting random people up, you're going to make some mistakes. You aren't fully aware of the rules, but these become apparent pretty quickly. It began to feel like I was just playing a role for a while. But eventually, even when I wasn't paying full attention to playing confident, I was just naturally confident. Confidence was now habit.

And now even though nothing quantifiable about me has changed, I am different. I speak differently, I walk differently, I conduct myself in public differently. All with confidence. Where I would once just stare at the floor during social interaction, it just comes naturally. My thoughts and conversation topics are all the same as they were before (or would have been had I actually expressed them to anyone before) but I am not afraid to just let my conversation flow in front of strangers.

And since this is seddit, I'll go ahead and confess that this newfound confidence has done WONDERS for my dating life. I've recently been picking up numbers like never before. Its like I've found the key to society, and I can safely say I've gone from faking it, to making it.

tl;dr: Start acting confident even if you aren't, it's rough to start, but your fake confidence will very soon turn into real, natural confidence.
