So what you're saying is pretend I don't want to have sex straight away and I can have sex straight away?
Got it.

A community that becomes impervious to criticism or outside perspectives quickly becomes an echo chamber. This subreddit should be a place of learning where every theory is at least considered.
Edit to say: you're dismissing her not on of the quality of her argument, but because of who she is. That is, in my opinion, bad science.
[–]GenerousKhan 5 points6 points7 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
It's a logical fallacy, pure and simple.
It was a clever statement at first for a brief laugh, but it's mindlessly repeated whenever a woman opens her mouth. It's one of Seddit's favorite thought-terminating cliches.
We can disagree with a woman's perspective on attraction and seduction, but we must find logical reasons within her perspective. It's stupid to reject her viewpoints simply because of her gender. Not to mention it's condescending and sexist.

Unless of course you ask it "What are you hungry for"
[–]NotSpartacus 9 points10 points11 points 13 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link
What are you hungry for? A nice piece of kelp. Oh, ok. And if some shiny spinny rubber thing were to come by, would you be interested in that? God, no! Didn't you listen? I said a nice piece of kelp.
What are you hungry for?
A nice piece of kelp.
Oh, ok. And if some shiny spinny rubber thing were to come by, would you be interested in that?
God, no! Didn't you listen? I said a nice piece of kelp.
Five minutes later, the fish is chasing past kelp to catch some shiny spinny rubber thing.
That's why we don't ask the fish.
edit: That said, OP's post is solid. Nothing groundbreaking, but good points and always nice to hear things from the ladies.
[–]EklyM 2 points3 points4 points 13 years ago (11 children) | Copy Link
Why not? If I want to catch a fish and have no idea how, what better way would I learn than to ask the source? I mean a fish will have bias on what type of lure it prefers or whether it likes to see the fishing line or how the lure should move about in order for it to be caught. If the novice fisherman starts to practice what the fish preached, he will more than likely catch some fish. When he sees he can catch some fish, he will start to experiment and ask other fish for advice on how to catch them. He may even see patterns in his catching rates with what lure he has, how he moves his lure, what type of fishing line he has, etc. He'll begin to grow as a fisherman. He will grow to the point that he will seek out other fisherman and talk about fishing habits and give insight as to what he learned as well as to learn what other fisherman might have learned.
[–]ARealSocialIdiot 7 points8 points9 points 13 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link
The fact of the matter is that women often don't know exactly what makes them react. They know what they THINK they respond to, but what they ACTUALLY respond to is different. That's why it's (generally) not terribly wise to ask women how to pick up women. Sometimes they're more enlightened about themselves, but if women really responded to what they say they responded to, we wouldn't know so many girls who keep ending up with assholes and complaining about it.
[–]IKeptMyThrowaway 6 points7 points8 points 13 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link
This.
I will tell you a hundred times over the "best ways to pick me up are..." but if you do exactly that, you seem like a chump. I'm not proud of this. The truth is if you wait 3 days to get ahold of me, I may hate everything about it and make a note of correcting your approach in the future, but I'm yours. You instantly rise to the top of my list. I wait for you to text back, I wonder what I can to do make myself more appealing to you. I hate it, but it works.

This is why humans need to have porta-fucks.
Two consenting adults agree to go into the porta-fuck. They fuck and reach orgasm in the porta-fuck, and thus the issue of confusing your sex life with your social life in society is now abolished.
[–]shovingleopard 1 point2 points3 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Every time I see this statement I am reminded that, without the ability actually ask a fish, fishermen have had to refine their trade over thousands of years through painstaking trial and error. Perhaps if they truly could ask particular fish what they like, they might be able to catch more than they ever have before, even today? But instead, fishermen opt for brute force techniques like using a massive net and trawling the seas, which in your analogy might be similar to using roofies?
I agree with this... It's true but without the humor of the more "common" sayings. Still upvoting
Yah but not everything she's saying can be disregarded.

Seriously, some of you people here are so painfully insecure, someone comes to try and offer a different perspective and you have to try and prove yourselves, like not only did you not need this, but that this girl should hush.
The "don't ask a fish how to catch a fish" quote sounds cute, but it's fucking stupid because FISH DO NOT COMMUNICATE WITH EACH OTHER! If they did, they might have long ago figured out not to bite the worm on the hook, and humans would've had to adapt to the change. To act like you have nothing to gain from a woman just because it's a woman speaking, is flat out insecure. Not to mention, I can't tell you how many female friends (the confident, good looking ones who have been hit on a zillion times in their life) have told me that they'll laugh a guy back into the corner if he pulls some stupid shit like "negging," not only because they have had it done to them so many times, but also because THEY READ SEDUCTION PAGES TOO, to amuse themselves and know what to look for! Did you learn that one in your studies? The ones who already know all of this simply (and securely) just move on to the next post (if they're even wasting their time on Seddit).
Jesus F Christ, I bet half of you keyboard hawks in this thread include the number of times you've "seduced" your palm as part of your count.
I appreciated the post, OP! Everyone has something to learn and improve on, whether they'd like to admit it, or hide behind some macho keystrokes.
Edit spelling.
EDIT 2: Another point: catching a fish is a one-time thing; a woman can be "caught," or seduced, many times in her life. To think she doesn't learn from experience, what works and doesn't is just discarding potentially valuable insight into how you come off to at least one woman. Think of it like a mirror for your game. What a woman says about seduction is less dogmatic and more pragmatic. Think about it.

The only thing I really disagree with here is the dancing aspect, but most guys here also tend to disagree with me on that (most guys would agree with you).
In a club -- especially when everyone's already drunk and the inhibitions are slim to none -- I tend to "randomly" grind on girls a lot. It could just be my looks (though they're not great) or the way I approach (though that often isn't great either), but it tends to work for whatever reason. 99% of the time, it seems like everyone else is silently judging me for it, but not the girl herself. Usually though, I purposely look out for girls who seem like they're more "open" in general, who probably aren't huge proponents of "personal space."
It's weird because there always seems to be 2-3 distinct subsets of girls in a bar/club -- the first subset is the girls who like to go out with their friends, who legitimately just love to dance and "unwind" (and who for some reason pick the worst places to do so). The second subset is the girls who know that a club is a club, and a bar is a bar, and they know what tends to happen at bars and clubs -- so they're okay with random grinding, they're okay with random guys talking to them and shit, etc. And of course there are many girls who fall in-between -- they came out with their friends but are at least open to the possibility of random hookups. So yeah, IMO it's simply much easier (and usually the more efficient option) to just randomly grind on some girls -- you still gotta be confident with it, and usually you want some acknowledgment before you do it. You still gotta approach with the right sort of "vibe," the same way you would in any other "approach."
Otherwise though, I agree with basically everything you said here.
[–][deleted] 13 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
[–]IntoTheWest 6 points7 points8 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Yeah maybe so, but if you took out all the girls who weren't looking to hookup, you'd see a lot fewer girls and the gender ratio would get shot to hell.
[–][deleted] 8 points9 points10 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Yes, how dare people have fun their own way. They are there to satisfy you, not to have fun!
Seriously. I might find it a little ridiculous for girls to pay a bunch of cash to go out and hang around in a group and nto talk to anyone, but it's far more ridiculous to talk about how "They are the worst, they shouldn't be here, here it's all about hooking up!"

This post was bullshit in my opinion. Be yourself, don't follow some list as to define your character in the presence of other human beings. One thing girls need to know is that we really don't care for their attention as much as they want to believe. If any of you guys want to take my advice, just be who you are; bring out the best in yourself because you sure as shit don't want someone falling for the front you put on to get their attention in the first place.
[–]frogma -1 points0 points1 point 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

No. She was saying that she has a type. Her friend has a type. They are not the same type. So unless you have some sort of facial disfigurement if you own your body, someone will find you especially attractive because you fit their type.
[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 13 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link
Girls do have different types, but you don't have to have a facial disfigurement to have a face that is no one's type. I know all too well.
[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Pretty obvious that it's not your face, but rather youtr attitude that is your "know too well" factor here.
If you walk around thinking about how ugly you are, why do you think anyone would want you?
[–]619shepard -1 points0 points1 point 13 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link
You have an attitude that is nobodies type.
You've been told time and again by both men and women on this site that you're cute. Yet every time that's written you tear it and yourself down, in the process usually hurting the compliment giver. Anyone ever hearing you react that way is not going to be offering up any more compliments.
You've proven that you can take time and do work towards achieving difficult goals, but just reading books or seddit about how to improve yourself is not enough. At some point you need to do some serious work to change your attitude and self-perception. Therapy may be the fastest way to do that, but since that's not an option for you, you're going to have to sit with yourself and really work on that change. The way you think about yourself needs some serious revamping.
[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 13 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
You've been told time and again by both men and women on this site that you're cute.
Not ugly was really the consensus. I got 1 or 2 stray "cute" comments, but most of the emphasis was on that I (nor anyone) wasn't too ugly to date (which I have accepted).
I think what is more telling than anything else is if you look at the front page of /r/amiugly at most other males, even the ones that aren't great looking themselves get 4-5 comments from women telling them how they (as a girl) would date them. I got only one, and I have to assume that was just someone being nice (as that whole subreddit is a circlejerk, as I realize now).
Even if though I had been told raving reviews about how I look, I haven't been told one time that I was cute. Quite the opposite, where I have been told I'm ugly by friends and strangers alike. To reaffirm this, I've never been checked out or been flirted with despite all my attempts to do this with others. All I've gotten was one make out with a girl who was drunk beyond her mind. That's it.
I really do appreciate people trying to make me believe that I'm not ugly despite what I've just said. It's just frustrating when no one believes that you have a huge barrier to success that 99% of other people don't have.

IT'S YOUR PERSONALITY
[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 13 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
I suppose my looks have affected my personality, but when someone looks at your face and immediately has a look of disgust, I don't think you can blame personality alone.
[–]liekafox 0 points1 point2 points 13 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Does EVERY person who has EVER looked at your face have a look of disgust? I know way less facially attractive people than you who have girlfriends. How does that happen if people only care about faces?
Not everyone, but almost all are turned off by it.
As for your friends, I'm telling you I'm photogenic and I can almost guarantee that they look better than me, but there's no way I'm convincing you of that so I suppose it's moot.

Wonderful post. Thumbs up. In more than two years in seddit, you are the first girl I have fully agreed with in here and who I think has actually contributed something useful, realistic, honest and accurate.
The sheer amount of times I have been downvoted to hell for disagreeing with a girl/woman in here because she is giving advice from a one-sided biased female viewpoint which doesn't help men and sounds like self-help advice is staggering. It doesn't help that the average frustrated chump lurking seddit has a natural tendency to white-knight and rush to the rescue.
I think it's because you have came out with the oft-repeated phrase "confidence", among the other things, but you've gone in to depth with your reasoning for needing it.
Great post.

What was the point of this comment, Whisper? If you have nothing constructive to add, other than trying to put OP down, please just keep your words to yourself.
We get posts every day from men whose advice is "not original" and I don't see you pointing that out to them, so clearly you're capable of that.
[–]Whisper -1 points0 points1 point 13 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
By original, I mean, "not news".
This is a self-post by someone with no pickup experience, offering tips, some of which are old news and others which are just plain wrong. Wouldn't you, in most cases, be a little more critical of the relevance of such a post?
Well, what's different about this one?
[–]TofuTofu[M] 1 point2 points3 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
We have outside guys come in all the time and post. There's nothing inherently wrong with that. We generally don't allow responses designed solely to put down OP. In fact we remove comments like that daily. What we do allow are posts that critique what's specifically wrong with their advice, which you didn't do.
Does that make sense?
[–]that1guywithredhair 6 points7 points8 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Even with the plethora of females that post here, I still don't talk to girls.
they are scary.
[–][deleted] 5 points6 points7 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
But my tips aren't original at all, and I never claimed them to be good, I also never claimed that I was the only woman to voice advice on this sub, I merely offered an opinion I found to be relevant to the topics discussed on this sub, said in my own words. Regarding your quote; originality is irrelevant and the soundness of my advice is relative to the life experience of the individual reading it. I am merely a human, sharing my own experience, take it or leave it, I didn't find the comment insightful or learn anything. If you have something to say, make sure you have true intent behind it, why do you talk about originality? In the context of giving advice gleaned from ones own personal experience, how is originality or quality a requirement and how are these qualities judged?
[–]backtothegame -3 points-2 points-1 points 13 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link
There is little of use here. It's a bit callus but it's always right: "You don't ask the the deer for advice on how to shoot them".
[–]MorphineSmile 2 points3 points4 points 13 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
Okay but deer are fucking idiots, they don't communicate with each other, and they haven't adapted at all to human hunting, whereas women do communicate with each other, and see what works and doesn't, not to mention shooting someone is a one-time thing, whereas being taken home for a night is a process that repeats itself, and the subject can draw from their own personal experience. What's wrong with considering a different perspective? Why is it worth turning away from, as the quote implies? Yes, I get that men know a lot about picking up women, and maybe things that women don't know about how they work, but what's wrong with considering multiple perspectives? Wouldn't that make you even more well rounded?
[–]backtothegame 0 points1 point2 points 13 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
It's not a literal comparison, it's a metaphor. Pickup is inherently a 'predator and prey' relationship in the anthropological context (no other meaning implied). Asking the prey doesn't make sense because it assumes that they have a clear, rational and conscious understanding of what's happening and they don't. We are all guilty of reverse rationalization but women have especially strong affinity for that. All you are learning is how she has rationalized the reasons for various experiences positive and negative, while there may be a minor correlation there is absolutely no causation shown. Why bother with that when you can review concise, rational and repeatable feedback from other 'hunters' with a proven track record of success.
[–]MorphineSmile 0 points1 point2 points 13 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
I hear you, and agree, that that should be the main focus. My only thing is, how many guys have you seen (if not yourself when first starting off) use those proven techniques too robotically or unintuitively, and just completely look like idiots. Considering the female perspective of how it can and often does come off is just something worth considering, and to be discarded before being considered, just because it's from "the fish." That's all I'm trying to say. Open mindedness.
[–]backtothegame 0 points1 point2 points 13 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
I don't see a lot of that, I do see a lot of AFC's. If you can show a real world situation where a man follows a womens advice and as a result achieves better results in pickup I'm all for it. We have enough bad advice floating around here, we don't need more if it. I expect to see a unicorn first. Here is the specifically awful advice:
1) The approach : honestly the best pickup lines are the ones that aren't , so simple and natural, 'hello' is the best icebreaker! Then asking what they've been up to this weekend, what they think of the music, if they have an awesome dress on- tell them!
2) The wingman: ok, so wingmen work, but it has to be very very subtle, because this strategy has been around for ages, and I can spot a try hard or desperate pick up attempt as soon as a glaringly obvious wingman swoops in.
3) The follow up: the three day rule is bullshit! The next afternoon is the best timing, I've gotten over my hangover and I might be thinking about the cool guy I met last night wondering if he will actually txt me, but leave it too long and I'm thinking about the other guy I met the weekend before and cave and txt him instead.
[–]MorphineSmile 0 points1 point2 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I guess my only reply is that "seduction" is a large language, and Seddit is a large community of people at different levels, and with different goals. If you're only talking about maxing out banging 10s, I'd agree with you. But there are other people here, who are simply trying to improve themselves. If you read some of the posts, there are people here who are happy just to ever get their first number close! So, there's a range of perspectives, and to some people, this advice is a bit more digestible.
[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 13 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
Ok I wasn't going to mention this but now I think it's relevant; I'm also into chicks as well as guys and used my own advice and took a chick home for naughty girl on girl fun and you say that I don't know how to pick up a chick just because I am a chick? Guys aren't the only ones who want to seduce for the fun of it, same approach also helped me pick up a married woman and have a threesome with her husband and her, so not only do the tips work on me, I use the tips on other women, and so far it's worked pretty damn well for me!
[–]frogma 3 points4 points5 points 13 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Most people here would agree that lesbians and anyone who's bisexual would tend to have better advice, since they're dealing with the same sort of issues.
Like I said though -- you've already seen it. At the same time, you've also seen some people with the opposite position. So you take the good with the bad, and then you have.... the Facts of Life.
This ^ I want to upvote more than once because you made me smile :D
[–]backtothegame -1 points0 points1 point 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I've picked up my share of women, to say that any of my experience would apply equally to picking up men is foolish at best. They are different 'creatures' with different habits, responses, feelings. To the extent that some things are broadly applicable, say 'don't be filthy' I think that's true but is silly to take it farther than that. Maybe there is a correlation in my success but that doesn't mean I have grasped clearly the cause and effect relationship of my behaviors and success. The point of pickup is to clearly define and refine the cause and effect relationships of behaviors between the pursuer and the pursued.
